Auburn bass fishing team suspended until 2022
Campus Recreation cites three violations of Auburn's COVID-19 policy on travel and events
Auburn University’s bass fishing team has been suspended until the end of the year as a result of alleged violations of the school’s COVID-19 travel and event policy, per a letter from Campus Recreation.
The violations of school policy are alleged to have occurred in July 2020, February 2021 and March 2021. The letter, written by Keegan Ashbee, assistant director of Campus Recreation competitive sports, states that no members of the club may compete, travel, recruit or represent the Bass Fishing Club in any capacity effective immediately until 2022.
Auburn has taken home several championships over its 14-year history, including the Major League Fishing College Redcrest National Championship in 2019.
Both Ashbee and representatives of the Bass Fishing Club declined to comment, saying that the investigation is ongoing and under appeal.
The letter was also vetted and endorsed by Bobby Woodard, senior vice president of Student Affairs, Jennifer Jarvis, executive director of Campus Recreation, and Nick Wiard, director of the Office of Student Conduct.
You serious, Clark?

What did they do? Have a raging kegger?

Apparently, they didn't wear masks on the boat together, didn't wear them at the tournaments, failed to socially distance, and other COVID-19 regulatory stuff. Last I looked, none of that was law, per se, more of a suggestions. In their appeal, they ask how can the football team smash up next to each other for a game and not wear masks but they are supposed to outdoors in a boat six feet from each other because of the seats? It's a valid argument.

Doesn't have to be law if it's "the school’s COVID-19 travel and event policy."

good think we still have the horses.

Scanning the bookfaces and came across a masterful literary piece from some Bama site. It caught my eye because the picture was of Toomer's Corner. Curious and bi, I clicked on the article, which was saying how sad it was that Auburn fans had to roll Toomer's in celebration of Bama getting bounced from the tourney. The comments from the Saybinz knob schlobbers came fast a furious, reveling in the Big Brother/Little Brother relationship.....until.....
it was pointed out that said rollage, started long before the Bama game and was in fact, a celebration of another AU Equestrian Natty.
The article no longer graces the bookfaces.

and that "policy" is absolutely contradictory and makes little logical sense - please address that part for me. It's also selectively enforced.

I'm not defending it, just sayin: them's the rules. Like it or lump it.

They're the rules for "some". Depends on how much revenue you bring in for the school.
For the record, the word going around TOS is that it has much more to do with other things, and COVID is merely being used as a scapegoat here. Pro Angler Steve Kennedy has even gotten involved siding with the team. As usual, JABA with AD politics.

And the team is reinstated.

The Auburn University Bass Fishing Team will return to competition on April 22, 2021 after originally being suspended (https://www.al.com/coronavirus/2021/03/auburn-bass-fishing-team-suspended-for-covid-violations.html)through the rest of the year, following a meeting with school administrators.

You sir have no heart. What about those poor fish? How would you feel if they all caught the covids? Not so good, huh?
-
It’s fucking fishing.
Yup...and if this were football in a playoff game or roundball in the final 4, you absolutely would not even know about it. I totally believe the "there was more to this than covid" angle. AD and admin got blowback for the hypocrisy thus the change in punishment and reinstatement.

You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! Now evidently my cycloptic colleague informs me that that can't be done.
