Title: Farewell to Gus, from The Plainsman

Some beautiful prose in this fond farewell to the former king.

"Gus elevated the football program as a whole at Auburn to have a standard of consistently competing for championships. He was not a bad head coach by any means, but he was unable to keep up with the standards he created at Auburn.

Whether or not the move to Bryan Harsin as head coach will work remains to be seen, but the reason he’s here is to consistently compete for championships.
A program standard unprecedented before Gus."

Maybe it is just me, but averaging 4 to 5 losses a year, not developing the talent you have, and losing to your biggest rivals on a constant basis is not elevating the program.

The only thing he elevated was his checking account.

F....THIS....ALL OF IT.

Pure garbage.

I gave Gus his credit when he was first canned. He's an otherwise nice guy away from a D1 gig (he belongs nowhere near one again). He ran a clean program (is that a good thing anymore really?). He played dad to a lot of guys who otherwise had no daddy guidance. I get that. But this is a pure fluff piece and FOS.

Raised the bar? Please explain that to me. Guy literally averaged a 7.5/4.5 season. Take away the magic 2013 season and the record gets real ugly.

Look, I’ve always liked Gus as a person and I appreciate his accomplishments as a coach. I still believe he has some bright spots. But this? Who the fuck is this kid? I hope he is not going into sports journalism. Writing fantasy stories, maybe. But that is just dumb.

The first sentence and the last one are two of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard someone express, who is supposed to know something about AU football.

Just idiotic. Factually and provably wrong. Damn, what a moron. I can’t believe the editor let this one pass.

its the plainsman paper. Bout par for the course. Has been since at least the lowder glory days of the 90s. I was there when auburn ousted terry and the plainsman went apeshit for a year or two. Lowder Derangement Syndrome.
