Well, here we are once again hoping against all hope that Gus learns how to put together a gameplan against a team with a pulse and motivation. LSU is not 2019 good but they still have talent. Now, their DC is a first order dickwad who will never adjust (sound familiar?). Our offense should be able to move the ball provided Coach's Son doesn't have another hissy fit and start bailing out of clean pockets all day again. If we let Tank roll, good things should happen. I expect our defense to be thoroughly dissected by the LSU offense as we generate no pass rush and are soft up the middle to the run. This will come down to the team making the fewest mistakes and let's face it, that ain't us.
LSU 34, Auburn 26

I like your analysis.
I think you're too rosy in your prediction:
LSU 28
AU 13
-
I don't think it really matters which QB they trot out there in the first huddle...either will throw for 300+ and a few touchdowns on this year's version of the worse than 2012 defense. The question is whether or not the MorMal offense will be able to keep up with them. That all depends on the running games. Yes, I said games. If Tank gets 20+ carries and we still sling it around enough to keep them honest, we will move the ball and score many 3 pointers, unless Tank breaks the long runs.
The other run game...that of Ellis Hugh is the other dependent here. If we stay as soft as the Stay Puft man in the middle, this year's version of their hyphenated running back will go for 150+ and we won't get enough chances to keep it close.
All in all, I see a repeat of the FUGA game in some respects. I think we score more than 6, but not nearly enough to keep up.
LSU 31
Auburn 20

Stats for your head:
LSU Offense
42 Points Per Game (Boosted by 52 this past weekend)
141 Rushing Yards Per Game
344 Passing Yards Per Game
LSU Defense
Allowing 30 Points Per Game
Allowing 128 Rushing Yards Per Game
Allowing 344 Passing Yards Per Game (Boosted by giving up 623 to The Pirate)
Auburn Offense
24 Points Per Game
164 Rushing Yards Per Game
221 Passing Yards Per Game
Auburn Defense
Allowing 25 Points Per Game
Allowing 180 Rushing Yards Per Game
Allowing 220 Passing Yards Per Game
In the last 3 games, Tank Bigsby is averaging 129 rushing yards per game with a 6.5 yards per carry average. This is definitely nitpicking, but take out a couple of games and the averages for both teams change significantly. LSU drilled Vanderbilt 41-7. Everyone beats Vandy 41-7. Take that one out and their D is giving up 37 a game. Take our 6 point shit show at Georgia out of the mix and we're putting up 30 a game.

In a letter to the Officiating Crew and replay booth officials for this weekend's LSU/Auburn match up, the SEC Commissioner says as follows:
Even if Saturday's game takes 17 hours to play, you WILL thoroughly review every single play, both on video replay and with a huddling of all officials on the field. We will also consider tweets from any and all fans concerning any possible controversial plays. In addition, we will have three drones filming all the action from alternative angles. Should any call made be received with boo's from LSU fans, that call will be immediately overturned and assessed against Auburn with a 15 yard step off and automatic loss of down.
All fumbles will be awarded to LSU regardless of which player recovers the ball. There will be no touch backs on kick offs and any kick off not returned by an Auburn player will automatically be considered a live ball, regardless of its location on or off the field. An LSU player recovering a live ball kick off out of bounds, will be allowed to return to the playing field and LSU will be awarded the ball at the spot he returns to the field. No Auburn player shall be allowed to recover a live ball on any kick off.
All penalties assessed to Auburn players shall result in a suspension of the offending player for the remainder of the game. Failure to enforce any of the above will result in loss of your jobs and a whacking of your pee-pee's.
Sincerely,
Greg Sankey

Side note about the fortuitous replays of this season: I was telling a buddy last night that any other year we couldn't get a 10th of this luck with the refs and/or the replay group. Of course we do this season, so it can prolong the pain Bus is inflicting on the fans.

This is truth. So funny to read all the comments on the book faces about how there's such an Auburn bias and AU gets all the calls. I replied to one saying despite how much we pay the refs to cheat for us, we somehow continue to lose 4-6 games every year for the last 7 in a row. (That includes this year. We will most definitely lose a minimum of 4 games)

Snippet from an article on Nix and the O-line from Josh Vitale in the Montgomery Advertiser yesterday. Could there be some actual coaching going on?
One of the primary focuses during practice leading up to last week’s trip to Ole Miss was keeping Bo Nix in the pocket.
They’re drills Auburn runs every week, but first-year quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Chad Morris placed a larger emphasis on them after Nix’s three-interception performance in a loss at South Carolina (https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/sports/college/auburn/2020/10/22/auburn-football-teammates-believe-quarterback-bo-nix-struggles-leadership-ole-miss/3684832001/). He made the sophomore quarterback stand in the pocket, go through every progression and set his feet, stressing the importance of slowing things down rather running.
That’s much easier to do in practice than in games, Nix said, “when things start flying and everything starts getting crazy.†But their efforts paid off Saturday when he put together the best road performance of his career and perhaps one of his best games overall in the 35-28 win over the Rebels (https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/sports/college/auburn/2020/10/24/auburn-ole-miss-football-score-observations-gus-malzahn-bo-nix/3684889001/).
Nix completed a career-high 76.7% of his passes (23 of 30) for 238 yards, including the go-ahead, 58-yard touchdown to Seth Williams with 1:11 remaining. He rushed 10 times for 52 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
“He responded like a champ,†coach Gus Malzahn said. “He came back and fought his tail off.â€

Failing to mention that was completed against two guys who had not played DB for Ole Miss until that week. Guys, don't believe the sunshine pumping. This system is BROKEN and will not be fixed until there is entire regime change.

But there's not going to be a regime change any time soon. The simple fact of the matter is the buyout is still astronomical and forking that over, plus buying out all the assistants and then paying out the ass for a new coach, is not economically feasible, especially in a year where we're losing money by the barrel load due to the Rona's. In fact, it would be insanely stupid to do it and make us the laughing stock of the college football world. And rightfully so.
I also get the old, "Hit em' in the pocket book by not watching" approach. However, that doesn't work at Auburn. AU fans support this program and spend money, regardless of the record. There's always going to be a bunch of disgruntled fans who want change. But despite how average to slightly shitty we are this year, if the Rona's hadn't hit, JHS would be packed this coming Saturday. And as much as I've wanted the Bus to leave town the last few years, I'd be right there in Section 8, Row 44, Seat 9.

1. That may have been true in the past, but it's waning. Dude, nobody bled more or bled harder than I did. Nobody. Well, I'm sure some probably did, but I gave a lot. I lived and fought most of my life in towns that were 80-20 Bama to AU. I defended that program with my heart, soul, blood and fists. I believed. I defied the one person in the world, my grandmother, who loved me more than anybody ever has or will when I refused to join her in Bama fandom. Because I believed. It's not about the money or the record. It's gone way beyond that. And I know I'm not alone. I feel betrayed, abandoned and dismissed by the program that I fought for. I don't know that I can ever come back and care like I once did. It's a lot like ending a relationship or marriage. Even if you go back it isn't ever the same. There's always that undercurrent of mistrust. There was a time I was willing to risk my reputation, my career, all of it in defense of that school. Not any more. And again, I'm not alone.
2. This isn't about disgruntled fans, unhappy with wins and losses. It's about the entire culture. I was alive for a lot of Shug's tenure. It wasn't always great. There were bad times. I endured Barfield. I celebrated Dye. Bowden. Tuberville. Chiz and now this assburger. I'm not really even that unhappy with the losses. It's the WAY AU loses. How many times did a Pat Dye team get its shit pushed in or look like a bumbling pack of fruit? Hardly ever. I would be fine with the record if there was ANY indication that the staff was competent, providing direction, getting players prepared or helping them improve. I never see improvement at ANY position and all we get from Gus is mealy mouthed platitudes. When Dye said he was unhappy and going to get after some aspect of the performance you saw results. Now? Nothing. Just bullshit. I want a coach that helps our players succeed, get better and learn discipline. None of that is happening now. None of it. And that shit-tastic attitude permeates everything except basketball.
3. Maybe THIS Saturday because it's Halloween and LSU. But I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on the overall trend. Apathy is a killer and we are covered in it at the moment. Even before this fake "pandemiconium" I couldn't tell you how many people I heard weighing whether the time, money and effort of making the trip was worth it any more to watch AU fuck around like a bunch of horny monkeys on a coconut.
So... let me just add. If you're happy with what you see from our leadership? Keep going. Keep giving them your money. Keep endorsing it, even indirectly. As long as you do, it's going to be what it is. The ONLY thing these chumps answer to is fear for their own jobs. The only way that fear is instilled is financially. The only way to impact financially is to walk away until it changes.

I don't wanna guess what Six means by that but my inclination is that he means even above Gus, way above Gus.....the whole school from the top down has got a lot of rotten in it now, that was not there a decade ago.....Gus is purely a symptom of that, going back to Leath, and even before Leath with Harbert and Jacobs. The scoreboard, the rap music blaring, the High rise condos, tearing down historic building/houses, the tailgate footprint shrinking every year (unless you wanna pay a grand at minimum to have some dudes set you up a tent), the ticket prices, the donation prices, the virtue signaling, and the obvious - the dumb hires and contracts given out. THE entire culture of Auburn and what's it always meant has largely been flushed down the toilet. What made us special and unique - much of that is now gone.....I think K eluded to it last month too but that feeling you got when coming into town on a gameday (or even a regular Saturday) just isn't there anymore...that welcome feeling that you were "home" with your people..... Saban is some to blame with this as PTBs at all schools have tripped on their own dicks to try and solve him, and in failure, to beat him. And it bleeds out into the school beyond football. Thus all the facilities and campus changes.
When we hired Leath, we hired a conman with a checkered past at Iowa State, and this was known. We did it anyway. We shooed away a guy in Lowder - his faults aside - who gave a shit. Leath is now gone....having seen the error of their ways in hiring him. But while here he did extreme damage, and it is still lingering within the Athletic Dept, the campus and the Faculty. I know Six can probably give some first hand account of this having been closer to it than I at the time. Its gonna take a total overhaul. Its a mess and its worse than most people realize. But until it's NOT a mess? Nothing will matter in regards to the football program. You may see glimpses of goodness, and some minor ebb n flow to the side of hope but at a macro level, its not gonna change.

All of that.
Y'all, Auburn's core is no longer there. It's just not. There's a few fleeting wisps of it floating around the campus, but largely, it's just another money making machine run by crooks and politicians who have little ties to what made Auburn special. The monkey flop that is the football program is just a by-product of the ineptitude of leadership on the campus. Can it be saved? Sure. It'll take monumental change and if you've been watching the ways things are lately, it's unlikely to happen.
Remember the good days for they are behind us now, probably forever for our lifetimes.

BTW Six, nice ref to Gavin Grey....
You get 3.5 extra credit points for the sly if not obscure Dennis Quaid shameless plug

Y'all done got way too deep with this shit. I'm 60 years old. Auburn football always has, and always will be a rollercoaster. We win more than we lose. We've won and played for plenty of championships, both SEC and MNC. Right now, the PTB have painted us into a 4-6 loss a year corner. It's probably not changing any time soon, but it will change. I lived through all those coaches mentioned and every single one, including Patrick Fain Dye, gave us all the best of times and the worst of times. Maybe not Barfield. That's Auburn football. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, they'll have the ability financially to move on from Gus. When they do, they'll most likely hire Rhett Lashlee or Scott Loeffler or any number of head scratching names. It's what Auburn has always done.
As for my support of the program, unless 2012 happens again, meaning they quit, I will always watch them, back them and attend as many games as I can. I may not be happy with the product Gus & Co. put on the field, but again, I'm 60. I've been there done that. And it will change. If you choose not to watch, that's your prerogative, Bobby Brown. But you're really not affecting anything. From Saturday Down South.
The Auburn Tigers had a great 2019 year, especially when it came to finances.
According to documents obtained by AL.com (https://www.al.com/auburn/2020/01/auburn-athletics-reports-more-than-13-million-profit-record-revenue-in-2019.html), the Auburn athletic department had a record-setting year in terms of revenue.
Per the report, the $152.4 million in reported revenue was a record, leading to a huge $13.2 million profit:
The department recorded more than $152.4 million in revenue and nearly $13.2 million in profit for the fiscal year, according to a copy of the university’s annual NCAA financial report obtained Thursday by AL.com through a Freedom of Information Act open-records request.
The total revenue for the fiscal year reported by Auburn was $152,455,416, which represents an increase of nearly $5 million year over year and the highest revenue total in program history. It’s the sixth straight year that Auburn has seen an increase in overall revenue in the athletics department, according to AL.com records.
And folks, that's after a 6th straight 4-6 loss year. Now, for our administration. Have they been a dysfunctional mess for years? Absolutely. And our track record says they'll probably continue to be for a long time to come. They have a long history of doing stupid shit in all phases of the athletics program. Malzahn's contract is at the top of that list. But unless somebody with insanely stupid money decides to pony up about $40 mil of their own cash for that complete change in the regime, the school paying it from their own coffers would replace that contract at #1. It is what it is until they can move on in another direction.
You guys talk about the changes to Auburn itself. Did I mention that I'm 60 years old? Maybe I did, but I'm old and can't remember. I graduated in 84' and let me assure you, the construction and remodeling of the campus and town have been going on non-stop since I walked across the stage. Some good and some bad, but Auburn is still the quintessential college town. Still beautiful and yes, I still get that feeling of home every time I set foot on campus. As for the stadium and atmosphere, I despise the Jumbo-Jaytron XJ 6000. And the Boom-chicka-womp-womp music is maddening. But that shit goes on everywhere. We've been in an arms race for years and years, along with everybody else in the SEC, save Vanderbilt. Do you want to be Vanderbilt? Face it, they have to constantly do shit to attract and appease these kids. You know, the ones you want scoring the field goal touchdowns? The kids that EVERY school is trying to get.
Changes have always happened at Auburn and always will. Yes, the tailgating has been pushed out away from campus. But that hasn't kept me away. I'll go all AU Family here. Auburn is not the buildings or the stadium or the music, and it's not even the coaches or administration. It's the traditions and more importantly, the people. And Auburn football to me, is getting amongst em' whether it be in the stadium, tailgating, at a bar in New Orleans or just in my den with family, cussing the TV.

Those things no longer matter to the people who control Auburn.
And that's why I can't do it any more.
If I'm Captain America out on a ledge, if I'm Braveheart leading a rag tag group into battle or if I'm just some wacko baying at the moon it no longer matters. It's where I am.
-
I think you're sort of proving the point Snags. Not enough are walking away....some are but not enough to notice financially....I think that's what K is saying needs to happen for there to be real change holistically. They're gonna keep changing things at its core, doing away with traditional Auburn "stuff" until they see adverse effects from it. They will see that this year, but COVID gives them, and the dingbat coach, and naive AD a mulligan.
As long as the beer is cold and the pizza is hot...

As long as the beer is cold and the pizza is hot...and Auburn beats Alabama in football once every four years Gus is safe.

When did anyone ever care? Besides me, it's on our sign out front.
Serious questions for you naysayers. What do you mean when you say things have changed at the core? Specifics. All the same traditions are still in place. Tiger Walk. The eagle flying. The band still enters the stadium and does pregame exactly the same way they always have. Toomer's still serves lemonade. We still roll the hell out of Toomer's Corner after every victory. The list goes on. What part of that has changed? Pretty much nothing.
Yes, tailgating has been pushed away from campus as the construction has grown. Sucks! But, I don't see people moping around on Saturdays. They've long since adjusted and staked out their spots. GH, you pretty much party with the fam and a bunch of great Auburn people a couple of blocks from the stadium. What part of that is a problem?
Is it the money? I'll grant you that tickets have steadily increased in price and the administration is using everything to generate income. And if you're going to get season tickets, you're going to pay out the ass. It's expensive if you choose to attend a lot of games. But news flash, running an athletic program in this league is damned expensive too. Refer to the article I posted about Auburn's revenue. Generated $152 million dollars and their profit margin was what, 8%? Everyone gets pissed when we're not competitive, but you have to replace Sewell Hall with a state of the art facility. You have to have that flashy new, football only facility they're building to impress recruits. You've got to replace the antiquated Beard Eaves with the bad ass gym we have now. Think Bruce would be here without it? You have to keep on improving or you get left behind. That's the world of SEC football we live in. And if we become Vanderbilt, everyone will bitch and moan that our administration is run by a bunch of tight assed idiots not willing to spend the money to be competitive in this league.
I've been lucky. My Pops is one who continues to go in on a scholly with one of his friends. He's too old to go so he only does it so his kids can go to the games. But even with tickets, I've found myself more and more, opting to hang out at a tailgate in the shade, watching it on a wide screen with a cooler of cool ones, rather than sweat my ass off in the stadium in early September. That's fine with me because it's all about spending an Auburn football Saturday among "family". And when Pops doesn't get them anymore, I'm still heading to the Planes as often as I can.
I just don't understand what all you think has changed so much. Yes, it's newer and flashier. More bells and whistles. But it's still the same traditions and still the same Auburn people, whether you're in Auburn, watching in a bar with friends or having some peeps over to grill and watch the game.

I feel like the Joker talking to Batman. "Don't talk like one of them. You're not! Even if you'd like to be."
Snags, I hear ya, pal. I really do. And I'm glad you can still find the pocket of joy. But everything you mentioned - Tiger Walk, Toomers rolling, etc. - all of that is now seems so corporatized, organized, manufactured. Coming up, those things were organic. There's nothing organic about the gameday experience now.
Moreover, the PTB, brother, they don't care about you or those things. They care about one damn thing - $$$$$$. Maybe they always did but I tend to believe from my experiences that the $$$$$$s were not the primary motivation for the people who built Auburn into Auburn.
Look, nothing but love for you on this side. And I'm still gonna look up the box score and highlights even though I pretty well know the outcome. It'd be different if all I was told to expect was the same 7-8 win scrappy team Auburn always ways. But I'm told we're right there with fGeorgia, Alabama, etc. And the fact is, we're not. We like to act like we are, but we aren't. And we shouldn't be.
So, what I want is for a coach and an admin to just be straight about it and stop telling me the 2006 Taurus SUX 6000 is an Audi R8.

Ill address this part specifically since its a microcosm of it all...
Yes, we have been setting up there for the past 4-5 years. Here is the rub (no not rub one out).
In fact a couple of rubs -
1. that's the 4th place we've had to move to the last decade, the walls are closing in and you can feel it. Every place we've been since the early 2000s we've had to move as a direct result of campus change - all the previous spots are now either off limits or premium (pay lots by the university, built a cool new facility bro, or the "tailgate guys", or something else commercialized)
2. You aren't there on Friday to see what a fight it is to get it. It's ugly. And it's political between fans. Its like children fighting - all over a spot on Saturday....at least 2 of us, sometimes 3-4 have to take time off work to go up there Friday, and sit there and rope it off, and not leave til someone relieves us. You turn your back for one second or walk off your own spot to go take a piss and soime vandal is there trying to get it. Its become way too cutthroat....enough that we had to call cops over the Friday before UGA last year because of threats from our own fans. Sorry, that's not fun nor is it worth it.
3. Now our spot is gone. Its been bulldozed in the offseason and another commercial construction project is taking place in its place.....so we have no idea the spot will be going fwd....not that I will be involved anymore most likely. But its sad nonetheless.

When did anyone ever care? Besides me, it's on our sign out front.
The moose shoulda told ya.
I can't give you specifics. I wish I could. I guess I'm just a liberal. It's a FEEL. It FEELS different. Everything about it feels different. It's like they took all the things we used to like to do -- sliding down the hills, bringing food, throwing a ball in the grass near the tailgate, seeing the players before and after the games and said "Hey, what if we ORGANIZED that shit? Wouldn't that make it better!" And it sucked the colorful life out of it, replacing it with bland conformity.
Look, it's not just Auburn. It's a lot of things. Take baseball.
When I was a kid, we organized baseball games in my back yard. The fencepost was first base, the old basketball goal was second, the pine tree was third and home plate was the stump. We played nearly every day out there. I eventually played little league, pony league, high school and a little in JC. But even then, all the way up until I was a junior or senior in high school we'd still have those cutthroat baseball games in the backyard. Might be only four or five of us, sometimes it was 20. Depends on who showed up.
When was the last time you saw that? We corporatized it. My nephew travels all over the country with his daughter on a travel softball team. She's nine. Every weekend is pack up, drive for hours, play a tournament, drive back. I know he thinks he's doing what he thinks is best for his kid, but in my opinion that's HORSESHIT. A nine-year old should be crawling through the woods finding shit, damming a creek, riding bikes, building a tree fort, playing baseball/football/basketball in the yard with her friends.
Auburn is just a massive reflection of things going on everywhere. Things I hate and things I really never thought Auburn would be. We talk about "family" but are we REALLY? I haven't seen a lot of indication of that in the last several years.

ok, maybe that makes 2 of us that think that is one of Will Ferell's funnier but underrated skits.

No doubt. The silverware clanking on the plates during the periods of silence is classic. You're just waiting on the next person to talk so it can erupt.

Turns out I had taken Jeff Peabodys keys....we had quite a long laugh afterwards.

Were Bama Light now....seriously....some of our own act as bad. Go up on a Friday and try to grab a spot to tailgate on and you'll see it. Its disgusts me.
Yeah, I miss the organic fun. I try to get mine to do it now....bikes, walking through the creek, throwing a ball, watching Andy....yeah I know.....cool story gramps.
The travel ball thing......I can't understand...its bewildering in fact.

I get it if you're 16 or 17, look like a MLB prospect, want to test your skills against similar talent and see if you've got what it takes for college or the minors. Would probably have helped me if I'd known I wasn't worth a shit. I would have made different choices.
But nine? Driving from Alabama to Texas for a weekend tournament? And then to North Carolina the next weekend? In the MIDDLE OF THE WORST PANDEMIC IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!! THE ONE WHERE YOU HAVE A 0.000000001% CHANCE OF DYING AND A 0.000000000000000000001% CHANCE OF HAVING THE SNIFFLES LONGER THAN THREE DAYS!!!!!! OH MAAAHHHH GAWDDDDDDDDDDDD.

Auburn Football modern history as Star Wars Trilogies
Shug-Dye era - The Original Trilogy (Episodes 4-6 for you kids).
- Classic perfection, comes out of nowhere, builds a loyal fanbase and sets the traditions we all know and love.
Bowden-Tubs - The Prequel Trilogy (Episodes 1-3)
- Ton of hype at the start into a dark period before coming out on the other side dominant up until the very end when it all goes to seed.
Chizik-Gus - The Disney Trilogy (Episodes 7-9)
- Starts off with the biggest of bangs, makes us all nostalgic for the "original" years but then gets derailed by corporate modernism and outside forces who say they love Auburn tradition but basically make a mockery of it at a high price. In this scenario the only bright spot is Bruce Pearl as The Mandalorian.

Yes. Was just thinking that as I read your post.
