Title: Tres La Semana Predicciones
Post by: Snaggletiger on October 07, 2020, 12:36:19 PM
Week 2 was a bummer, dude.  When I turned on the Auburn game, I honestly wasn't expecting a win.  I had the War Eagles winning in last week's predictions, but that was just because I can't pick against them.  I really wanted us to be competitive.  I wanted Co Chad to show me something to give hope that we now have someone running things that knows how to scheme, to game plan, to call plays and use the talent we have properly.  That was a big negative on all fronts.  And then you look across the State and see your biggest rival with an as advertised performance, stealing Aggies' soul like a Ginger.  Now we're in a nothing to gain/everything to lose situation against Arky.  But more on that later.

Florida @ A&M:  So far, Mullen’s offense has been a well oiled machine.  Trask is getting some legit Heisman buzz and Kyle Pitts has NFL teams drooling all over themselves.  The surprise though, is the D hasn’t been up to normal Gusty Gaytah standards.  Mond and the Aggies moved the ball pretty more gooder at times against the Tahd, and I would expect more of the same against The University of Jorts.  Some might call for an upset special.  I don’t think Fisher’s Faggies have enough fire power to keep up the pace.

Florida:  42

TA&M:  24

Oklahoma @ Texas:  The Red River Shootout may be just that.  These are two shitty defenses.  Chokelahomo is 1-2 for the first time in how long?  Texas had to go to overtime and score 63 to escape Texas Tech.  Personally, I don’t give a rat’s ass about either one, but this is normally a premiere game in any given season.

Texas:  52

Okie:  50

Tennessee @ Georgia: I don’t want to give the mangy dawgs too much credit after they manhandled our sorry butts this past weekend.  While they dominated our faces from the opening bell, they still didn’t blow us out on the scoreboard.  I’m not saying that as some sort of consolation prize for keeping it within 3 scores.  I mention that because they may not be a very good offensive team, at least not on a level that looks MNC ready.

Anyone realize that Cheetos U. has the longest current win streak in the SEC? They started out last season wondering if Jeremy Pruitt was a mistake of epic proportions. Since then, they’ve quietly gone about their business and found ways to dispatch of everybody in front of them.  Jared Guantanamo Bay has slowly developed into a solid QB and now he leads the  really large T’s into Athens with a chance to put them on the map.  I think Georgia is one of those teams that’s going to do enough on offense and rely on that nasty D to win games.  Look for this one to be close:

Georgia:  28

Tennessee: 24

Miami @ Clemson:  How many times has The U been “back”?  Despite what so many want to believe can happen as far as the Hurry Canes getting that in-your-face swagger back, they’d better just nip it….nip it in the bud.  The days of Michael Irvin and Murdering Ray Lewis etc. are long gone.  College football has taken any semblance of the bad boy persona out of the game.  Now, you get flagged for pointing a finger at someone.  That being said, Miami looks like a pretty good football team this year.  D’eriq King is legit and that offense has progressed each week, scoring 31, 47 and 52 points.

Clemson is Clemson.  They’ve loaded up athletes at every position for years now from all indications, it’s business as usual.  Jeff Spicoli is back at QB and the media’s frontrunner for the Heisman.  Travis ATM didn’t jump to the NFL and returns to gash opposing D-lines.  No need to go into the orange Tigers too much.  They’re good.  And given the “strength” of the ACC, this will most likely be their biggest test of the season.  I like Climpsum, but don’t be surprised if they have to sweat this one out.

Clemson:  35

Miami:  28

Arkansas @ Auburn:  As I said above, this is a no win game for Auburn. Maybe we should take that statement literally after last week.  Arky got their first SEC win in 17 years, surprisingly against the team that gutted LSU.  They’re on a 1 game roll and I imagine they feel pretty good about themselves.  The Planesmenz are licking their wounds and may just be thinking, we’re not very good.  Auburn can’t run the ball.  Our pass protection is abysmal.  Our play calling is teh suxxors, and our D is neither fast or physical.  Oh, and our Aussie punter can’t boot it 35 yards.  Still, I have to think we have more athletes.  At least I hope we do.  I’m glad I’ll be in the mountains this weekend and won’t get to watch what I think is going to be one helluva ugly game.

Auburn:  24

Arkansas:  20

Opine away.

I think you're pretty spot on.

So, naturally, I'm fading all your picks.

Florida (2-0) @ Texas A&M (1-1)
Texas A&M fans have to feel like people who bought tickets to see Michael Jordan play with the Washington Wizards. The superstar name is there (Jimbo Fisher for Michael Jordan), but the results on the field (or court) are just mediocre and lacking. Meanwhile in Florida, Dan Mullen has an offense that is incredibly dialed in and that spells nightmares for Texas A&M who just got torched by Alabama. Expect more of the same in this one. Florida is too fast, too talented, and too well-coached to think they are in any danger of losing here.
 Florida 41, Texas A&M 20

Tennessee (2-0) @ Georgia (2-0)
The SEC East race gets its first challenge match between teams fighting for the spot in Atlanta. Tennessee's path to victory so far has been to play smart, conservative football led by a two-headed rushing attack in backs Ty Chandler and Eric Gray. The Volunteers defense has greatly improved and can be a disruptive force albeit, not an insurmountable one. Georgia's defense is as outstanding as preseason hype advertised. The Bulldogs offense found some stroke against Auburn last week that they will need against the stout challenge this week. Georgia's overall advantage on defense is the difference maker in this game. Expect a close one, but in the end, the Bulldogs will be last ones standing.
 Georgia 27, Tennessee 20

Arkansas (1-1) @ Auburn (1-1)
It's an all too familiar feeling for Auburn fans. The Tigers take the field and there's all sorts of hype and hope. Then, they meet a team with real depth, a plan, and get punched into submission only to be left to pick up the pieces and start over. Arkansas played the same team that ripped through Auburn last week and held up considerably better in spite losing. The Razorbacks aren't special or flashy, but they clearly have a plan and are executing it. Auburn, once again, is still trying different ingredients to see what melds together for the souffle. Gus has a habit of whipping Arkansas as some sort of catharsis and while the Tigers could use it, I don't see it as possible considering how poorly that offensive line is playing. Auburn does have the better all around talent and that should be the edge but don't be shocked if this goes the other way.
Auburn 26, Arkansas 24

Alabama (2-0) @ Ole Miss (1-1)
Ole Miss may have found something on offense but they don't have a single guy on defense that can hang with Alabama's explosive attack. There was a time when the Crimson Tide clamped onto you and smothered you to submission with a pounding running game. Now, they hit like a black mamba and dispose of the mouse quickly. Alabama still needs to shore up some things in the defensive backfield which is why it is safe to assume Ole Miss will score some points, but it won't matter. Nick Saban doesn't lose to former assistants. He's 20-0 against them and it is usually a blow out game. Expect no different from this latest chapter.
Alabama 48, Ole Miss 24

Mississippi State (1-1) @ Kentucky (0-2)
About that record breaking offense of Mike Leach's...yeah. Mississippi State couldn't handle what the Arkansas defense threw at them last week handing the Razorbacks their first SEC win since 2017. Kentucky invented more ways to blow a lead and a game against Ole Miss, a team that simply wouldn't go away. The Wildcats are a frustrated bunch, for sure, but if Mark Stoops can keep his guys focused, they should be able to withstand the onslaught of throws coming at them. Kentucky's offense should find plenty of room to run (if they take it) in this game and that'll be enough for Kentucky to notch their first win of the season.
Kentucky 27, Mississippi State 24

You can't predict pain.  You predicted pain last week.  Pain has been used.

Wait....you were talking about Auburn fans watching the game, right?

I don't even feel like trying anymore.  Mainly because I can predict the rest of the season already.
8 more good weeks of practice followed by 2 or 3 games that look more like the 2013 and early 2014 teams...and 5 or 6 that more closely resemble the 2015 and 2016 teams.  Somehow we are fortunate enough to pull out a win in 2 or 3 of those and finish 6-4 or 7-3.

6-4 would put him in some elite company at Auburn as the only coach to lose at least 4 games a year for 7 straight years.  He would join that guy who owns a BMW i8.

A bad call away from having a 1-9 season.  I guess now we may have a chance at 4-6 at least.

I was told there would be no math.

The math is this.

Gus to make 6.9 million this year.

That works out to roughly 2.3 million per win (based on 3 wins)

Our AD obviously cannot do math either.

Bottom line is you need to enjoy this downturn into less than mediocrity for the next couple of years.  Auburn is getting exactly what they deserve.

Actually, I was trying to figure out how Auburn would go 3-9 in a season where they only play 10 games.

But yours works, too.

Did you know that when you take any number between 1 and 10 and multiply it by 9, the two digits of the resulting number add up to 9?  6 X 9 = 54.  5 + 4 = 9.

2 X 9 = 18
3 X 9 = 27

Feel free to use that, amaze your friends and family alike, then claim it as your own.

There's another math equation I like to use.  Did you know that a $6.9 million per year salary equates to $18,904.11 a day?
