A couple of defensive surprises in there.

Redshirt Freshman ahead of Newkirk and Derrick Hall ahead of Moultry?  Interesting.

Joiner missing altogether may be the biggest surprise though.  The ronas?

Harold Joiner was moved to the dreaded H-back position after the season.  However, since Morris has come in, it looks like they've gone back to the traditional TE position, at least in name. Don't know where he fits in now but I'll say this, I'd feel better about him as the starter than DJ Williams. DJ may bust loose this year, but he showed me nothing last season.  One break away run against LSU and pretty much Pfffffft from there.

Moultry is right where he needs to be.  He's had 3 years of potential, and squat in production.  He has 4 total sacks in those 3 years. He looks like he's running in quicksand to me and is definitely not the answer off the edge.

Heights & Weights alert.  The totally revamped, completely untested O-line, will go:

RT Alec Jackson  6'5"  315

RG Tashawn Manning  6'3"  324

C  Nick Brahm  6'3" 300

LG  Brandon Council  6'4"  325

LT  Brodarious Hamm  6'5" 330

I feel pretty good about Hamm.  He's consistently gotten good reviews and has a good amount of experience in a back up role.  Brahm has a few starts under his belt, including during the win over Bama.  Council was a 3 year starter at Akron, which means diddly in the SEC West.  But he's valuable in that they're saying he could plug and play at every position across the line, including center. I have no clue how Manning or Jackson will do.  I have to give Jackson credit though.  He came in as a D-lineman at 270 pounds.  Now, 45 pounds heavier, he's earned a starting spot at tackle.  Pretty good accomplishment.

Let's hope a new O-line coach and a new system will help these guys kick some ass.

Joiner will come in for the secret wheel route or the little twist and flip. They'll never know what hit them.

I'm so excited about Joiner. He was a QB in high school. I envision him taking a pitch and doing a pirouette and tossing an 80 yard bomb. I just don't think Malzahn has evolved enough to come up with something like that. Maybe Morris?

To be fair, he wasn't singling out the Lizard.  He was including Rusty Williams, Demontray Carter and Cencade Pennington.  225 pound Fred Beasley was resting while saving himself for a long pro career.
