Title: Draft Talk
Post by: Snaggletiger on April 23, 2020, 03:29:16 PM
I believe one of the most overrated, over played and over hyped events is the NFL Draft.  Don't get me wrong, I normally watch a good bit of the first round.  I think it's interesting and pretty neato-keen to see where guys get drafted.  But to start the hype in January and talk about it every single day, with 47 new mock drafts on a daily basis is overkill with a capital K.

So, let's talk about it anyway.

The reason this occurred to me was because when I logged on after lunch, one headline was about something that could potentially blow up everyone's predictions and send NFL teams scrambling if it happens.  ESPN is reporting that the Dolphins, who have the 5th pick, are trying to trade up with Detroit for the 3rd pick.  Then take the 3rd and 5th picks and package that in an offer to the Bengals for the #1.  The Dolphins want Joe Fucking Burrow.

How many does Auburn get in the first round?  Two at best IMO.  Derrick Brown for sure, but I also think Marlon is on somebody's first round radar.  I also think Ighbonegebonebe has an outside shot, but a second rounder at worst.  How about Arryn Siposs?

Wait....what?

Does New England take a QB, or are they going to roll with J. Stidham into the season?  Tua to Cincy if the Dolphins pull it off?  I would laugh.

I think the reason that the first round is composed of mostly Alabama players is because of the Apple watches.

I have burned bridges on the book face.

Someone wanted to have a virtual draft watching party to see where Tina Turkeybologna would land.

I said they should hope he didn’t land too hard, he might break something.

I can feel myself being blocked repeatedly.

Just read a Dirty Burds beat writer's take that he thinks the Falcons will trade up to take Derrick Brown.  Didn't say he had any inside knowledge, just his prediction.  I'd love it because A.) I love me some DB from AU, and 2.) The ATL sucks on defense and need all the help they can get.

If you love DB, you would not wish Atlanta upon him. That's cruel. It's almost a hate crime.

I've heard lately that the Saints have a plan to bring The Fashion King of Carolina to New Orleans.   Spend a year getting healthier, be a strong ass sub if Brees gets hurt again (which he will) and then plug into that offense.

It's not the craziest thing I've ever heard.  Can you imagine the pain he would inflict on Carolina twice a year given is need for retribution?

Miami shits all over the bed, picking the VASTLY (vastly, vastly, vastly) overrated Tuber Tubabalogna at number 5.  That's the kind of shitty decision-making that will haunt this team for years to come.

He's the next Drew Brees!!! He's the next Steve Young!!!  His skills are off the charts!!!  Yeah, off the fucking medical charts maybe.  He's a metric fuckton closer to being the next Akili Smith.  The Dolphins are going to find out that this guy isn't Brees, he's fucking Culpepper 2.0.

Even if the egotistical fucker wasn't made of peanut brittle, his "skills" are pedestrian at best.  I won't bore you with another recitation, but his entire mythology is based on one extremely fortunate half and a big pile of cupcakes.  He's struggled mightily against the better defenses in the SEC.  Against decent competition, this ridiculous fuck isn't top half of the SEC.

But look at his deep ball!!!

Watch the motherfucking film.  His receivers have six to ten-yard separation against the scrubs they're playing against.  Show me a single clip where he made a read and threw into a tight window.  Or anticipated coverage.

Fuck him.

I was all prepared to loathe the Dolphins.  That's a tough place to be for somebody who grew on watching Greise, Warfield and especially Czonka -- and then had the crazy fortune to meet him at a Birmingham Stallions game.  But if they're going to pin their future on that pineapple snarfing fuckhole?  Fuck 'em. Hope they implode and lose like the orange Tampa Bay Bucs for a decade.

And then they went and drafted Noah Igotabigboney unexpectedly in the first round.  Bitches.

I think Rosen is a very serviceable QB. Can't protect him tho. How the hell they gonna keep 2fer healthy?

By not playing him this year and letting Fitzpatrick and Rosen take the beating. Then, draft/sign more OL next year. It's a rebuild in Miami all the way.

I agree about Tua, but if he was the second coming of Daunte Culpepper, then Miami should start building a statute now.  It would be the best QB play they've seen since...Culpepper's 4 games in 2006.

Career stats: 10 years in the league, 24K yards passing, 2,600 yards rushing, 183 TDs.

You, I and most anyone else on here could play toss and catch with that group of wideouts. Look what Mac Jones did with them against Auburn's "pretty good" Defense - other than the pick 6 I guess. Tua left the roster and they didn't miss a beat offensively against Ark, MSU, WCU (yeah I know cupcake), Auburn and Michigan. They averaged around 500 a game with his REPLACEMENT.

They had 2 WRs taken in the first 15 picks last night. He's not Drew Brees. Just stop it. STOP IT. Its a ridiculous statement by anyone saying it in the media - mainly Trent Dilfer's stupid ass.

Dude made a career off one damn throw against Ga that most QBs could make as well. Nevermind the Ga secondary BLEW it.  90% of all of his stat padding was against inferior competition while he was surrounded by the best talent. PERIOD. I absolutely give his WRs credit though....they are studs, all of em. Jeudy was a steal for Denver at 15. At one point last year, a lot of draft experts thought he could be the overall #1 pick. During most of the season he was double teamed and put in the slot which lowered his production, but it let Smith and the others go apeshit more.

LOT of steals I see on the board for tonight - MD, Delpit, Dobbins, Taylor, McKinney.

Green Bay and Las Vegas though - scratching my head a little....

Both the raiders and Durdee Byrds could have gotten their CBs in the 2nd round.

To be an expert on college football, I admittedly don’t know Jack about the NFL. Don’t care much for it and only care if an AU player is playing. Or, sometimes another SEC boy I’m familiar with.

But why Marlon was not taken in the first round astounds me. I consider him an elite prospect. And for pass rushers/hybrids I think he’s special.

Sure, I think I would’ve taken DB first, on average. But for his position, Marlon isn’t far behind, imo.

I didn't really read up on any draft analysis, so I was surprised that Delpit didn't get taken in the 1st.  What are the knocks on him?

In the pass happy NFL, don't you want that hard hitting safety that can play run-support as well?

Yeah, that was very surprising.  The only knock I heard yesterday by one of the "experts" was that he doesn't tackle all that well.  I have no clue if that's true or not.  Also, according to several "experts", safeties aren't at a premium these days.  Teams put a much higher priority on their corners.  I guess it goes in phases because the running back position has been seriously devalued in recent years.

The one that blew my feeble brain was Green Bay taking Jordan Love.  I get that he's a great athlete and may (Or may not) turn out to be the schiznit.  But, Rodgers has one weapon to go to.  They should have gotten that boy something to play with besides his own dick.

What I heard coming out of LSU is that Delpit is lazy, entitled and not well-liked by his teammates.

They'll take chances on that with an exceptional talent, but I don't think he qualifies.

Your post gets to the heart of my confusion re: Delpit.  Yes, CBs are at a premium because the league has shifted to a pass-oriented offensive paradigm.  Gone are the days of having your #1 receiver supported by a bunch of decoys and possession guys.  The #2s and #3s are now capable of making the defense pay.  Sooooo...yes, get top flight corners, but load up on safeties since you're playing nickel defense almost every down anyway and you don't want your LBs exposed.

When the Crimson Tide’s famous quarterback went down with his hip injury, an entire country of fans mourned in collective, painful heartache for a fallen football prince. Sadness covered Alabama like a seven-year shadow. Godspeed, said Alabama’s coach Nick Saban, who was shaken to his core in the days after an injury many thought might end the career of the most talented quarterback Tuscaloosa had ever seen....

...Did we just see a dream get crushed before our eyes? Would Tua ever be able to cash in on his ability?
The long nightmare is over.
Praise God.

And it continues in the same vein.

Thats why he's a bargain beyond the first round. He's got top 10 1st Round talent with an avg attitude/work ethic. If the right franchise fit can get his head on straight, an Andy Reid, Bellechick type - steal of the decade.

GB def wins the head scratcher award.....I get wanting a backup to Rodgers and possibly an heir.....but....Rodgers isn't too too old and prob has a good 3-5 years left at worst. SO I can't think Love is the heir apparent. So if this was a backup QB pick, which it looks to be....why in the ever living hell did you use your first round pick to do that? They prob could have gotten Love much lower or even settled for Fromm in the late 2nd, early 3rd. You DO NOT use a 1st round pick to select backup QBs.

No doubt.  I go back to what I said a few days ago on Bama's receivers.  Watched the replay of the Iron Bowl for the first time the other day and focused on their receivers.  I don't know how anybody covers those guys.  They all come off the line like a rifle shot.  That much speed in one group should be illegal.  Nope sorry, you're too fast.  Can't sign you.  We already have our limit of 3 that run a 4.27.

Rogers is the same age as Brett Favre was when GB drafted him.

The worst one (in terms of annoying attitude) is Jaylen Waddle (#17) and his little smirky Mighty Mouse bitch pose.

Fuck that guy and every one in his clan. I hope he trips and breaks every bone in his legs running down the stairs from some Tuscaloosa whore's apt. when her super racist Frat Boyfriend catches him dicking that bitch up the ass on the couch.

That or he gets drafted by Detroit and is never heard from again.

On a side note, because of all of Miami's tomfuckery has anyone checked on Godfather?  I assume someone was smart enough to take his shoelaces away from him?

We were texting during the draft last night. (The cool text group)  He's officially a Tampa Bay man now.  He's already ordered his Bucs' Gronk jersey.

You can't use the term, fag.  Ass Bandit, Brownie King, Cock Jockey or Donut Puncher maybe.  But fag is out of line.

And that’s about where the parallels end. It was obvious Rodgers had nfl elite written all over him. And bretts time was short. Love is a project. And Rodgers has proclaimed he’s gonna do the Brady plan and go into his 40s.

If I didn't hate the Saints before, I do now.

Jaboo-boo Winston signed with New Orleans.

The Panthers used every draft pick on defensive players. Overpaid for a RB in the offseason, brought in a backup QB to run the team. Did nothing else to improve that side of the ball. Tank for Trevor much?

Next time Georgia fans start chest thumping, remind them their Buddy Holly kicker didn't event get drafted (but some alleged white supremacist from Marshall did) and their QB stud got shipped off to Buffalo in the 6th round. Built between the hedges...to fail.

Wee Willy Hastings lands UFA with the Patriots. White, small, kinda fast, plays in the slot. Checks out.
