Title: Perspective

Quote
To put things in perspective,

The coach with the best record in Division 1 history is presently Joe Paterno with a 372-125-3 Record over 42 years at Penn State. During this time he has won 2 National Championships, an average of 1 every 21 years. He has won 2 Big Ten Championships in 15 years for an average of 1 every 7.5 years. He has had 5 unbeaten and untied teams, an average of 1 every 8.4 years, of which 4 of those were "not" awarded the "mythical" National Championship.

By the standards of many Auburn fans, Coach Paterno would have been fired 8 times during his 42 year career at Penn State when he had records ranging from 3-9 to 7-5. In 6 of those years Paterno followed up with outstanding seasons the next year to include three 11-1 records and one 10-2 record. In 2003 and 2004 he had back to back records of 3-9 and 4-7 followed up by an 11-1 season in 2005. Obviously, he would have been run out of Auburn just before the 11-1 season. Paterno averages a 7-5 or worse record every 5.25 years. At 81 years of age, his present team is 8-0 and ranked number 3 in the nation. Hell, by the standards of some Auburn fans, Bear Bryant would have been fired twice at Alabama and another two times at Kentucky.

I think that the great majority of Penn State fans are extremely happy that they did not liisten to their whiners and fire their coach during those eight down years that he had.

When put in perspective, Coach Tuberville is doing an outstanding job at Auburn. I would say that he is in the top 10% of coaches or very close. People like that are very hard to replace. I would say that the odds of finding a more proven coach that will come to Auburn and do as good or better against the SEC teams that we face are extremely slim.

I like the spirit of the thing, but it's comparing apples and oranges.  Paterno is Penn State.

This quote makes me puke:

We're poor little Auburn and we can't get a good coach?  Fuck that drivel.

That quote could be taken a couple of ways, though.  Admittedly, CTT's record against the SEC is incredible over the last few years.  I'm pissed because of how quickly he's let this thing go in the dumper.  Penthouse to outhouse in a matter of weeks.  I'm also tired as hell of the instability with his staff, or maybe the stability of a chosen few. On top of that, I'm really starting to wonder if you can believe what the guy says, since he changes his tune every freakin' week.
