Writing on the wall with a crowded RB group. Couple with rumors of his penchant for not going to class, skipping workouts, and fumblitis, not surprised. Good luck in your next move, 28.

This is not a good thing. I know you decided to put on your Gus Goggles and that guarantees 94% blindness but there’s no reason to burn the other 6%.

Here's where I'm at. I hate losing the guy because I think he's the best we've got. JMO. But then, that's not saying much because I've never been a big fan of his running style. I think he's a decent, pretty much average SEC back. Don't know if we've got anything better on the roster right now.
I would think there has to be more to this than the #1 back deciding he wants to play elsewhere. I have to assume he's on the outs with Gus & Co. for whatever the reason(s). But, we'll probably never know the real story.
As far as our RB depth, DJ showed flashes early but was pretty much underwhelming most of the year. Shivers is a nice change up but he's not a 20 carry a game back at 170 pounds. Harold Joiner may be the most all around talented back we have but for whatever reason, there's just not enough sample size to say that with any certainty.
Honestly, it's been several years since I felt like the RB position was a strength of the team. It seems like that was never the case as far back as I can recall. Maybe even back to the days of the Bowden Mighty Mites.
Maybe Tank is the real deal, but you can't count on that. As GF said, Mark Anthony Richards might be the bomb when he comes back, but who knows?
I need some warm fuzzies, people.

I think we've had talent in the backfield the past few years...but the OL has just been awful.

Not gonna' argue with the line point with ya'. However, I have to think back to 2012. (God, why did I go there?)
Worst season in my long ass lifetime. A team that literally quit half way through the season. No one blocking. Half hearted attempts at best with tackling. But one guy stood out. Tre Mason. Despite getting zero help and taking hand offs from a 3rd string QB, he still got his 1,000. I still recall the kid working his ass off for every inch. Turns out, as we saw the very next year, he may have been one of the best backs in the nation...in 2012.

This may be the dumbest thing you’ve ever posted. And that’s saying a lot.
Im going to try a few. I’m sure I will get an era or two wrong but you said back to Bowden. Since buster brown. Really?
Carnell, Ronnie b, kerryon, tre mason, Stephen Davis, Rudy,Ben Tate, cap, kam, brad Lester, michael dyer really spiced up the backfield in 2010.
Current depth is very good.
Sometimes I think people say stupid shit just to try to be entertaining. Right?
I sure hope so.

Nope. I got it. He’s an idiot. But thanks for checking.

I'm not going to say we didn't want him anyway, because he was a good back. He was seasoned and the best blocking back we had. However, as I told you before I don't think he is the best back on the team. Production does not equal the best talent. I think we used him because Gus trusted him the most. But like you said he is an avg SEC back. The guys we have in the stable are more talented guys IMO.
I think DJ Williams one season into it coupled with Mark Antony-Richards (don't forget this guy was HIGHLY recruited) are going to come out 1a and 1b at running back. My money is still on Tank to be the man by the third game of the season. You have a change of pace back in Shaun Shivers and I wouldn't be surprised for Joiner to be a 3rd down back catching balls in Chad Morris's offense.
Rumor like Six said is that Boobee wasn't going to class and was half-assing it in practice, similar rumors came out last year, so I wonder if this is was the final straw. I suppose him entering the transfer portal was he saw the writing on the wall. Carries are going to be spread (hopefully) with all these RB's, and I think Boobee was going to start to get less and less.
Hope him nothing but the best.

It isn't a bad thing either. If the rumors are true you don't want a guy like that on your team.

Rumor I am hearing is that the coaching staff was planning to pull the plug mid-season, then Gateway decided to leave. That could help explain how he "had knee surgery" then comes back 2 weeks later for a few plays, then is strangely absent at other crucial points including the bowl game. If true, this is yet another Gusterfuck much like Mike Dyer.

He punched Duke Williams at Sky Bar.

Listen I hate Gus as much as the next guy, but these types of things are gonna happen. Surprisingly, it's one thing Gus doesn't have a lot of.

I've posted this before, but I'm always reminded of my conversations with a friend of mine who is the skrength corch at a Sun Belt school. He's said many times that football, basketball etc., ain't even close to the top of the priority list for a ton of these kids. It's a means to an end. A way to get away from home, go to college, get a shot at the pros....whatever. He said they're far more interested in video games, pussy, weed (Not necessarily in that order) than the sport they got a scholly in.
Bottom line, they're kids. My boy is going to Junior College here at home this year and maybe the next. He's going to have to prove he can do something simple like get out of bed on his own and make it to class without us having to pour cold water on his head, before we spend the money to send him to Auburn.

And, yet, thousands of kids complete the process every year without fucking it all up.

True. But you're also going to get your fair share of kids who do, both athletes and regular students. Obviously, every coach is different in their tolerance level with their athletes. Some may have zero tolerance for screw ups, whatever that may be....missing class, smoking the gunji, punching out teammates etc. Others, like Lord Saybinz, take the position that their livelihood depends on the best players being on the field and they put up with countless indiscretions, if you will.
I'm just saying that if you're not on Bama's Sugar Bowl roster, you've burned all the available bridges and goodwill.
-

I was not one of those.

in something other than sports.

And yet billions of people complete this thing called life to die of old age.
And then there is that percentage that just screws it up. I wonder who their coach was.

Hmm. Listening to all these folks talk about how much you care, I thought you were rolling in the dough enough to let him party!
I did this with my youngest son. It was a lot more affordable and let me know if he was serious or not. It turned out, he struggled with the responsibility. So after two years, he joined the AF. Now he is working toward that degree on their dime!

I think Coach Dye put it the best way I have ever heard. He said that "it is really pretty simple, you find out what is important to the kid and focus on that. If they care more about school than football then they will do what they need to do on the football field to make sure they stay in school. If they care about football more then they will do what they need to do to stay in school in order to chase thier dreams on the football field."

The underwear yes, but it was to his office in the Athletics Building.
