It's the bye week and the team will use this time to heal up, work on some lagging fundamentals, and get their mindset right before returning to SEC play. Now Arkansas is mostly terrible and poses little threat to a team as talented as ours. However, Tennessee was the same kind of team last year and we all know how that went.
I think we need to simplify some of the protection audibles so when we are in a loud stadium again, the QB isn't eating clock telling each lineman the changes. Hand singles or something. That's one thing we could fix.
So, what do you think the team needs to focus on most in this bye week? They can't change who they are nor implement some whole cloth scheme changes. What are the little things they can tweak to limit issues and set up more successful opportunities for the rest of the season?

Needs: Play every offensive lineman since all are going to be replaced with reserves/redshirt freshmen anyway.
Next season is a full scale rebuild anyway so you can either start from scratch or get them some experience now.
Wishes: Gus goes duck hunting with Tubs. Something about a large tree but then it gets fuzzy.

I did wake up to what was like a shotgun blast but there were search parties in my dream. Probably just your run of the mill Bigfoot abduction or some cult in Arkansas.

I'm so up in the air on my feelings about Gus right now. I had a toe on the bus from every game from his press conferences, interviews and game planning this was a guy that looked like he finally rounded the corner. He's working out, he's excited about coaching looks like he is turning over a new leaf. Then Saturday happened, and we had the return of what we all know and hate.
$1 to Jumbo and Buzz I believe who said that this is what we are going to have to live with Gus. We are going to have head-scratcher games.
Everyone has said there is no one else out there. I don't believe that to be true, however, I am also scared to death of what our "smart" BOTs would bring in next. I suppose I would rather live with Gus then turn into: Miami, UT, FSU.
Also $1 to WE!!! for being the one saying that also as Auburn Fans (and this aint read the creed BS) but we have got to stop going back and forth over 1 loss, as in we need to fire Gus because of this bad game against Gaytor. I know it isn't one bad game it's the same BS gameplan we have seen. I don't know, I wish he would figure this shit out!
So fucking frustrating...that game was winnable.

1) NCAA announces a full scale investigation into rampant corruption in Tuscaloosa. A video of Saban and Emmert tag teaming a crippled llama emerges.
2) Cam becomes Cam and not Madea. But that seems more likely to happen somewhere else than Carolina now.
3) Gus learns something for the first time in his life.
4) Gus jettisons his entire offensive coaching staff, demotes himself to OC and hires a CEO to manage the business of the team. Tuberville perhaps.
5) Jay Jacobs chokes on gator penis.
6) Dan Mullen is fired after he punches his wife for giving birth to black twin girls she names Felipia and Frankine.
7) Dabo announces he identifies as a turtle’s dick and will undergo species reassignment surgery.
8) Georgia keeps living in 1980 for 50 more years
9) Video of Pelosi, Schumer, AOC, Schiff, Waters, Swallowswell, Omar, Tlaib, Warren and Nadler is discovered. In that video they are wearing purple hoods and dancing around a fire as they sacrifice goats and babies.
10) Braves sign Mookie Betts if he can’t stay in Boston.

Yes, this is true. They also coach on the offensive side of the ball.

I reiterate what I said in another thread. The ceiling for this team has not changed from what realistic expectations defined in the preseason. I concur with the notion that we as a fan base need to stop feeding into the media narrative that we fire everybody for nothing around the sports program. I do think this is just life with Gus in the Saban era of the SEC.

But it’s no longer “the Saban eraâ€. It’s the Ed, Dan, Kirby, Saban era. Despite the talent we are sliding into that middle tier.
Ahead of Arkansas, the state of Mississippi, Vandy and KY but just not at that upper level.
Maybe that’s ok. I don’t know any longer.

That would be all of our wishes only the BOT couldn't be counted on to replace him with anyone having a consecutive string of top 25 finishes.

To be honest, if you told me we'd be 5-1 at this point after playing Oregon, Texas A&M and Florida, all away from home, I would have jumped all over that. The obvious problem though, is this team, and Gus, gave us a taste of what they could and should be. Just disheartening to watch that proverbial egg being laid at Go Gaytah.
Wes summed it up nicely in saying the D played good enough to win, but still had their WTF moments. After that, it was a total team disaster, from play calling, to line play, to horrible QB play, all the way to special teams.
BTW, can we give somebody besides Suckoff a shot at teh punts? Has he even come close to pinning anyone deep this year?
As for a possible corching change, I truly want us to win out and wind up with a season for the ages. But if we lay that same egg against LSU, Fuck Georgia and Bama, I want them to do what I wanted them to 3-4 years ago. To those that say we can't attract a big name coach here, I call bullshit. We play in the best conference in America. We have great facilities, fans etc. And we can pay $7 plus million a year with $18 skwazillion dollar buyouts. You betcher ass we can.
But, the long history of our PTB, says we'd go get Scott Loeffler or Rhett Lashlee.

Can't help but agree with you and wes. I will say though, this loss to the Gatahs sent me in total blaaahh mode. I had just gotten both feet on the 1st step of the Gus bus but now I'm recovering from road rash. I went all up under the tire and everything.

From a game planning/play calling perspective, I'll echo some of the comments on here and in texts with a few of you pervs:
Our running game kicked in for the first time in the 2nd half of the Tulane game. The buck sweep calls got the back outside the box with a convoy. This past Saturday looked like the LSU game from 2 years ago. Time after time after time, straight up the gut. Why?
Neither Trask or Nix are very good QB's at this point in their short careers. I have high hopes for Bo, but right now, he's got a lot to see, experience and learn. Mullen game planned for Trask. They could not run on us so they had to keep it in the air, and Mullen gave him short throws of 7-10 yards against the best match ups for them. If you recall, Gary Danielson said several times that there are zero throws down the field. Until late in the game, I only recall two of those type throws for Nix, both to Salad Canola. One complete for our only first down in the first half. The other was behind him, but he was open. We had been using the middle of the field with great success. What changed?
What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and...well, you get the point. If they've stuffed the same play on 3rd and short 3 times, you have a 6'5" QB on the sidelines who can pretty much fall forward for a yard 90% of the time. Remember a guy named Cam?
I know this sounds trivial, but did the first play of the game look familiar to anyone? Remember the first play of the Texas A&M game a few years ago when DE Myles Garrett went unblocked and made the QB his bitch? They ran the exact same play Saturday and the problem was that for some reason, they pulled the guard to come all the way across the line to block the end. Can someone sneak into Malzahn's office and rip that ill-conceived abortion from his play book?

If Lindsey answers the call we might get to keep Coarch Kodi so we can preserve our stellar air attack.

God bless Kodi. Loves Auburn.
Now name another Power 5 school where he would be co-offensive coordinator.
One of Gus’ biggest failures. Other than Steele, Garner and maybe Travis his staff is a wasteland.

Why stop there, when we could just make him coach?

Now, now. Auburn can't force him to coach.

Updated wish: Move Joey Gatewood to tailback
You know it might not be too far fetched considering at it's core our offense is based on the single wing...no quarterback.
My reasons for various combinations in the backfield angle more toward the preservation of Nix given he has so little protection.
And thinking ahead this staff already has plans for next year's offensive line which will be made up of current reserves and redshirt freshmen not ready to play this season. I guess they call it grooming, maybe coddling I don't know.
Unless we land a couple of Braden Smith's this isn't going to improve much.
It's partly why Cam Newton left early and probably why we didn't get Russell Wilson...imo.

Joiner is just about as big as Gatewood and is a true RB. He should be a likely candidate.
So that means he will get zero carries this next game.

Think of duck hunting where Arkansas pulls out some 220 lb. freshman blur that lights us up for over 200 yards and we come home with our tail between our legs with obviously a better team but...no plan, unprepared, no adjustments, no fucking answers.

I want to see Joiner. Might not be the answer but we have to figure out a way to run the ball and give our elite receiving corps some space.
DJ Williams needs a chance too.

The knock is that Joiner just doesn't hustle in practice. His legs just don't move like the blur that is Shiver's legs...
I used to walk by Brent Fullwood on the bicycle every day at practice. He hardly took a snap. And then tore it up in the games. Man that just killed morale...
Gus is an idiot. He never knew Pettway could run the ball until Jovon was gone and he was forced to use him. I wonder if Joiner might be the same.
And what happened to Jovon? If that dumbass plays a whole season at AU, he gets drafted!

By memory seems that I watched Fullwood light up Mississippi State for 170+ yards and the color guy stating that he didn't work with weights.
And there's the whole myth of "playing like you practice." Nobody ever likes the guy that can't turn it down a few notches at practice.
Always just imagined Gus tripping over one of Pettway's thighs while he was stretching and Gus asking his name.

Thought the same thing but I remembered Gus is friends with Chad unlike Bert and he won't run it up on his friend. We probably do them 24-10 or something as I expect we'll fumble fart around on offense for at least two quarters while we figure out which of the other five RB starters Gus claims we have can carry the load.

We will see Kmart and Miller look like Heisman RBs this week and zero yards the next!

I was expecting fumble farting regardless of friendship because we just have a disjointed offense with no flow.
Can't move the chains on the ground, predictable third down calls and if we don't strike on 1st or 2nd down as we did with State we are punting.
Hard to get excited about Arkansas but we can recede to the level of 2018 Tennessee and help our ol buddy Chad if we show up with our heads up our arses.

How many years are we going to talk about a fumble farting offense that can’t move the chains on third down, doesn’t use the middle of the field, is gallingly predictable, isn’t developing players, has no second option when a player gets injured, makes head scratching personnel decisions (where was Gatewood against UF?) and grinds a single RB into a worn out nub?
These are no longer issues, they are identifies. This is who Gus is. The “old Gus†is a mirage propped up by a generational talent (Cam) and holdovers from Chizik’s party bus recruiting blitz (Tre and that OL).
Its why why I’ve drifted into apathy.
