Title: Can't State Golden Flourishes
Post by: The Six on September 10, 2019, 09:57:58 AM
They rank 116/130 in total offense and 107/130 in total defense.

If Auburn doesn't tear them a new one Saturday, we will have total confirmation that something is very, very wrong with this team.

I expect the defense to dominate them on every level. I hope the offense can do the same especially in the run game since they are giving up 211 a game on the ground.

It would definitely be nice to see them come out and handle their business and put the game away early, then get some young guys some experience.  That would be ideal, but I think there's a good chance that it won't be the case.

In the 2nd half last week, they finally got the running game going and I believe went for over 150 yards.  That's pretty stout.  In the first half, Boobs had 8 yards on 8 carries, all of which were straightforward hand offs between the tackles.  Unfortunately, two things were going on.  Our O-line is simply not physical enough to blow anyone off the ball.  And Boobs has fallen in love with going all Le'Veon Bell and tip-toeing up to the line, looking for a hole to open up.

After halftime, we started pulling linemen and going outside.  Whether it was out of the Mildcat or a handoff, it was predetermined that Titty Whit was taking off in one direction following his blockers.  That opened up the running game big time.  I'd love to see way more of that and more of Nix keeping it on the option.

Well, it would be a great time get other RBs big game ready for sure. I mean, isn't that the objective is to get your back-ups some playing time?

We need 150- 200 yards on the ground against our toughest rivals to have a chance to win, even with the box stacked. And that's tough to do when your run game only produces for one quarter.
@ College Station should tell us what to expect.

Sort of LIKE.

Yep, get Titty Whit his 40 carries against the Golden Showers and then maybe Harold Joiner can get a touch or two.

There was 230 lbs of sarcasm included. The things we wish for and get are most often two totally different things as Auburn football fans.

To be honest, I would be happy to see Gatewood get 30 carries.

You can thank Coach Cadillac for that:

“Now to get him to really understand the run game, what we’re trying to accomplish up front, how to be patient. I thought last year he was so fast on zone-read, gap-reads where he didn’t let the blocking scheme up front develop.”

I know this is just perception from my arm chair QB perch.  But, Titty Whit doesn't look quick enough to be dancing around back there.  In fact, he looked slow as my old ass trying to get out of bed in the middle of the night to take a leak.  Then I stand there trying to squeeze out a few drops because my prostate's as big as a grapefruit, so I get frustrated and......

wait....I mean, he just doesn't look very quick to me.

There is nothing wrong with this approach. It served KJ well. The difference is when KJ decided to run, it was with violent authority. BooBee buzzes up into the line. Also, KJ could tell when to break it outside.

Also also, KJ didn't fumble until his arm was about to fall off. I miss KerryoneOurWaywardSon...truly, madly, deeply.

The way their season is going maybe Arkansas WILL take him off our hands this time.

We have to be careful what we wish for.  Because there is this out there.

Every time I hate on Gus and my teeth grind into shards, I remember Tennessee.  Lane to Derek to Butch to Penis.  Decades wandering the desert.  And it wasn't long ago, they were a good program.  Their dumpster burned, burned some more, and then sprouted a volcano.

When I just want to start over, I remember FSU.  Jimbo wasn't/isn't a great coach. He's a snake. They've been clinging to the edge of the toilet bowl since Daddy Bowden was forced out.  Mr. Hydration, or whoever they have now, turned the water off and just pushed the handle and held it down until all the water was gone.  Then he took an enchilada dump in the dry bowl.

That's what scares me.  I've always been told you can't make decisions out of fear.  But as bad and as frustrating as Gus is, things could be worse.  And as bad as they are (yes, I am on the 'seen enough to make a decision' bus) do we trust the people making the decisions not to come up with a Penis Pruitt or a recycled Kevin Sumlin or some other garbage can hire?

I did.

Tulane sits at #50 allowing 323 YPG and 19 PPG

LSU is at #47 but played a pretty good offense in Tejas on Saturday, giving up 38 so the numbers may be a bit skewed early.  I doubt they give up that many again.....except to Alabama, of course.

Auburn comes in at #31 allowing 277.5 YPG and 13.5 PPG.

Joiner might not be the cure for our wretchedly bad o-line but Pettway gave us a lift when things weren't going so well up front..or were we blaming the backs then? I forget.
DJ also mentioned Gatewood. Worth a try to get him in for a few series but I think Gus has to let him throw it now and then. Might be awful throwing downfield but it wouldn't hurt to let him dink and dunk now and then just to back them off.

Auburn will be without its top receiver when it takes the field against Kent State this weekend.
Seth Williams was ruled out by head coach Gus Malzahn on Tuesday and will be day-to-day as far as his availability for the Tigers’ SEC opener against Texas A&M next week.
“We’ll see where he’s at, like I said Sunday, about his availability for the next week,” Malzahn said. “I think it’s kind of a day-to-day deal as far as that goes.”

We didn't need Seth or Flash to see the field anyway. Wouldn't mind seeing key starters for a half.
Need to get a decent lead, play the reserves and work on that shitty ground game, not that we learn anything except a false sense of pride by running through a pitiful opponent.
