Title: Two-Lane
Post by: Snaggletiger on September 03, 2019, 09:52:38 AM
So the next 2 Saturdays have us playing Tulane and Kent State.  Hopefully, these are a couple of breathers where Nix and Company can gain some experience and get things clicking prior to the poop getting real.  First off, where Saturday is concerned, even though it's a 6:30 kick, the forecast I saw last night has the temp for that day at 99.  As much as I love Auburn and love going to as many games as possible, I'm pretty much over driving all that way to feel a gallon of sweat running down my ass crack.  I believe me and Big Green Egg might be getting to know each other a little better this weekend.

As far as Tulane goes, I think we see a much better team than most are expecting.  Come on, it's Tulane!  This team was 7-6 last year and played well down the stretch.  They have a buttload of starters returning and pretty much laid the wood to FIU Saturday, 42-14.  Now, I realize none of that seems very intimidating.  But my thoughts are that with the true freshman at QB and the way we wallowed around for 75% or 347/517ths of the game against Oregon, this might not be the cake walk most are expecting.  I fully expect us to handle our bidnezz, but it may take a while to get on track against what I think will be a pretty decent club.

I certainly hope we don't go in halfcocked. Instead, we should go in like it's a championship game and punch them in the mouf which would allow much needed experience for the 2's and 3's.

If there's one thing Gus does well it's getting quality experience for the 2's and 3's.  Around game 7 or 8 when he's killed the 1's.

Yeah, especially at the RB position.

Really very simple. We have a vaunted run game so we should systematically take Tulane apart while looking sharp in our passing game...cleaning some things up as we soar in the polls.

Interesting (Sort of) tidbit in looking ahead.  Kent State's QB is former AU player, Woody Barrett.  They sucked balls last year at 2-10 but he was pretty much the lone bright spot.

And got blown out by Arizona St 30-7 last weekend. 9/16 for 83 yrds passing and -1 in rushing.

Well, I did say sort of interesting.

I read a little write up on them this morning, whilst perched upon my throne, doing research in the library.  It basically said they are still in total rebuilding mode and might be lucky to improve on the 2 wins last year.  Plus, the biggest starter on the entire defense was listed at 276 pounds.  We might be able to run the ball a smidge.
