MARYSVILLE, Pa. -- A 34-year-old Perry County man was crushed to death Tuesday afternoon after his mobile home fell on top of him.
When rescuers arrived at the scene on Pine Hill Road just west of Marysville, Matthew Teats was still alive. However, he died before crews could free him.
"We were talking to him the entire time we were working. In fact, we had went in and cut a hole in the bathroom near where he was so we could get down through there to communicate with him," said Shermansdale Fire Department Chief Mike Minich. "We got the trailer secured and ready to lift the trailer (but) he had deceased."
Authorities said the victim was working with a friend or relative to reposition the mobile home on concrete blocks, but it was not secured. Some of the blocks buckled, the home shifted and fell on the victim's chest and shoulder.
The victim was planning to live in the mobile home with his girlfriend, right behind his mother's home.
Many of the rescuers knew the victim. He had been a volunteer firefighter with several stations in the area.
