USAToday indept investigation searched more than 900 yearbooks from 40 and 50 years ago! They found shocking instances of racist imagery!!1!!
Good GOD, we are a pansy society. Things change. What was accepted then may not be accepted now.
Watch The Jeffersons. Watch Good Times. Watch All in the Family. Watch Match Game. It's just how things were. People -- of ALL races -- had a sense of humor and through that humor MY generation was able to truly change the nature of race relations. MY generation was the first to make peace with integration. I'm not that old but I still remember when black folks went upstairs at the movies because that's what they were accustomed to doing. I still remember having a full-time house maid who cooked, cleaned and took care of me. And I wasn't rich by any stretch of the imagination. We were poor folks, but my grandparents paid Miss D to work for my mom. I still remember the "Mammy" Bugs Bunny cartoons. I loved the Bre'r Rabbit stories -- and oh the horror of horrors, I told them to my own kids. I remember Heckle and Jeckle. I remember when that dog would get blasted by Droopy and he'd have the little pigtails and the blackface. That's. Just. How. Things. Were.
Things were different. Period. We absolutely CANNOT lynch the people by applying today's (screwed up, socialist, tight-assed, triggered) standards to decades old behavior.
For USAToday to go surfing through old yearbooks looking for crosses to plant up on the high hill is a symptom of the dangerous precipice on which we stand. It's got to stop.

This is a prime example of how racism will never die. Not enough hate crimes to talk about in 2019? Let’s go back 30 years and find stories.

I was in the Professional Business Fraternity at Auburn, Alpha Kappa Psi. Yesterday, the national president of AKPsi sent out this to all members:
Brothers,
The Arizona Republic published an article last night describing a photo taken at an AKPsi event in 1988 in which two people are in blackface. As an organization, we must own all of our history – those things which bring esteem and pride to our fraternity as well as those things which we regret and must spurn. In this case, we are sorry for the pain this photo causes those who love AKPsi and what we stand for. Further, we offer our apologies for those who are rightfully offended. We will continue to support one another, offer experiences that break down the barriers that create divisions, and be an organization that models the way for principled business leaders across the globe.
I went and checked what the Az Republic wrote about. It was a Halloween party, and two members (since AKPsi is coed) went dressed as Mike Tyson and Robin Givens. The party was set in the late 80s, and Tyson and Givens were obviously in the news, and I'm having a hard time seeing the racism here, given when the event happened.

Dear worried Sirs,
It was Halloween 1989. People dressed up then as public figures of the day. Nobody cried then. Nobody died. Move on.
Sincerely,
Never a slave owner.

I kinda like this response Jarhead.

I kinda like this response Jarhead.
It doesn’t mention colorful marsupials, varieties of fruit or bodily secretions though.

True. But back in the day when we were in the colleges, we didn't even know those things existed. Fruit? You don't put that shit on your pizza. And you don't make your beer taste like it either!

Tell
Bill the Arizona Republic I said to have a Coke and a smile and shut the fuck up

You can put pineapple on pizza. If you've never tried a Chicken, Pineapple, and Jalapeno pizza, then you have no say in the matter. They also make great tasting beer with lemons and with grapefruit.

Fermented fruit made to be consumed used to be called wine. Until your kind started putting it in beer.
