Can we please dispense with the myth of South Bend?
Two appearances in the college football playoffs, two "in over their heads" beatings.
No more benefit of the doubt for the Flopping Irish. They don't belong in the playoff conversation until they prove they belong by joining a legit conference. And maybe not even then. This is a 6-6 team in the SEC.

Ordinarily I'd agree with anything "fuck Notre Dame"-related, but their schedule this year was worthy.
Michigan
Ball State
Vandy
@Wake Forest
Stanford
@VATech
Pitt
Navy
@Northwestern
FSU
Syracuse
@USC
That's as salty as any B1G/XII schedule and they were undefeated after it all. It was their bad luck to draw a white-hot Clemson team in the first round.

Did you actually look at there schedule result?
Barely beat Michigan.
Barely beat Ball State.
Barely beat Vandy.
Barely beat Pitt.
Barely beat USC.
Definitely close to a 6-6 team in the SEC!

24-17 over Michigan 10-3, exposed by Florida
24-16 over Ball State 4-8, lost to Ohio (not State) 52-14
22-17 over Vandy 6-7, beat the crap out of Tennessee (thanks Gus)
56-27 over @Wake Forest 7-6, got smoked by a terrible FSU
38-17 over Stanford 8-4, decent win
45-23 over @VATech 6-6, lost to Old Dominion
19-14 over Pitt 6-6, slaughtered by UCF
44-22 over Navy 3-8
31-21 over @Northwestern 8-5, lost to Akron
42-13 over FSU 5-7
36-3 over Syracuse 10-3, quality win
24-17 over @USC 5-7, lost to Utah

You do have a point. But those two conferences are pretty crappy. Give Mississippi State that same schedule and I'd put them down as 10-2 at worst.

Regardless of how the teams on their schedule performed this year, they went through it unscathed. Compare it to UCF's. Which undefeated team deserves it more? I totally agree they need to be in a conference, but they had to be in the playoffs going undefeated with a legit schedule.
