Just observations in general.
What's the most intimidating stadium or venue you've ever attended? I was thinking about this when I read the following quotes from Tommy Tuberville about the upcoming Tahd/Tigers match up. He was asked about Baton Rude at night, and said:
“It’s not that big of a deal playing at night down there,†he said. “I think they’ve lost as many big games as they’ve won at night down there. It’s a little bit of a fallacy. Now, it’s tough to play down there. But it’s tough to play at Florida and Auburn and Georgia and Alabama at night as well. Still, this will be the game of the year in the SEC. No doubt.â€
I've been to LSU for two night games. Both were close games and both times I looked around at the atmosphere and thought, "I don't get it." Not trying to put them down because they're certainly crazy ass, passionate fans. Just didn't see or hear anything that made you think that venue was anything special.
Georgia: Shitty, run down stadium and even shittier fans. Nothing loud or intimidating in any way. Just a big load of garbage for a fan base.
Duke/Cameron Indoor: I said venue so I'm switching gears to basketball for a sec. That place is everything it appears on TV. Old, glorified, high school gym. The fans are right on top of you all the way around and they never stop with the in your face cheering and insults. Doesn't matter if they're playing UNC or Southwest Portland State School for the Blind.
FSU/Doak Campbell: Been to quite a few games there over the years. Nice stadium inside and out. Easy access and navigation around the place. You know how some stadiums just make you feel packed in like sardines and it's an event just to go take a leak. I've been to both the Miami and Florida rivalry games and I normally try to pay attention to how the atmosphere compares to SEC venues. Not in the same universe. I'm thinking, "Damn, this is your hated rival. This is all you got?"
I know this is homo err, homerism, but I've yet to go to any place that's on par with JHS against an LSU, Fuck Georgia or Iron Bowl.
Whatcha' got?

Pell City High School stadium. Scariest place in the state of Alabama.
-
And I'd like Nookie to weigh in if he's ever been to a Seahawks game. Not a fan by any means but that place looks crazy on the tubes.

I've never been.

High school stadium in west alabama.
Saw two guys get out of a car, put their handguns on top of the vehicle, adjust their pants to only a somewhat saggy version, replace said pistols behind their waistband, and pimp on into the stadium.
When I pointed out the pair to a sheriff's deputy working security he dismissively replied "you might be the only person in here who's not strapped" and went on about his business.

The swamp is deafening when they are rolling and the fans are into it.
Bds was pretty loud after they did the big expansion and during the cam years when they lost a few and had some close games and were still hungry as a fan base. Now that they’ve won 67 championships and are beating everyone 11teenbillion to 6 it seems to have gotten quieter.
Not being a homer but some of the louder games at jhs have to be up there. Last year. Kick 6. 89 IB. Even 2001 Florida. 2004 LSU. 2010 LSU. There have been some ear ringing moments in the place.
-
Ya'll have obviously never played or attended against Bellingrath Jr. High on a Saturday night in the 70s. Win or lose.

two categories loud and intimidating stadiums. intimidating can included loudness as a factor in intimidation. Autzen Stadium is loud but doesn't necessarily "scream" intimidating to opposing fans or teams. obnoxious, yes. loud, yeah it can be. intimidating, fuck those "yella" jerseys and that waddling duck.

Legion Field, but mostly because I was scared the stadium was going to fall on me.

Hear hear. Keep the windows on the bus all the way up and keep your helmet on!

Back in the day the swamp met both those criteria. LSU May be more intimidating than loud. Those fuckers are crazy.

I'm gonna have to go with the Traffic Light Lounge during the 80s, Bob.

Except when Floyd was stomping that ass.

It was much more fun with windows down wearing your helmet and using the outside seat passengers helmet and breaking fingers.

2010 game was as loud as I’ve heard on tv. Since then not so much.
-
Until the old entitled crowd who gets pissed if they have to stand and make noise on a crucial 3rd down moves along it will never be what it could be.

Well, you mean the first half!

By the time they move along, the crowd that now likes to stand and rage will have kids, developed arthiritis, gotten the gout, grown tired and want to sit down.

It really wasn't that loud in person...especially in the 4th quarter.
