Title: Career day for Carlson
Post by: Kaos on September 17, 2018, 08:20:59 AM
Shit week for the Carlson family.

Three misses for Daniel, including a 35-yarder on the last play of overtime which he should make with his eyes closed and one leg paralyzed.

He missed more field goals Sunday than he did in an entire season at Auburn.  (I'm making that up, but it sure seems like it).

Could find himself unemployed today.

He gone.

The #Vikings (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Vikings?src=hash) have waived kicker Daniel Carlson, source said.

That was harsh, but true.

I think the kid will get another shot. He found out the hard way, a bad day is defined differently as a pro!

Carlson has had what...2 bad games his whole damn career since 9th grade? I don’t think one bad day of shanks determines a kicker not being good. That said, I think it has as much to do with Dan Bailey being suddenly available. Great timing to be able to make both moves.

It was a surprising move to me, they traded up to 5 to take Carlson.  Shocked they would dump him that quick.

The NFL has always been a "what have you done for me lately" organization.

He should have kneeled. Then it would be discrimination!

It's an uphill battle for Swedes for sure, just ask Jan Stenerud. He pretended to be Dutch to escape persecution.

Probably right. Just hope the kid catches on somewhere quickly and redeems himself. Zimmer took the tie hard and the Vike's are now one down in the loss column.
Carlson was one for two last Sunday and the three misses made it 1of 5 where it seems 80% is expected.

*Only know having looked at the stats of the twenty best placekickers over the last couple of decades. Only a couple fall just short at 78, 79%...Del Greco being one of them.

I seriously think it had everything to do with Bailey. They needed a reason to rid of Carlson.

Question on Daniel Carlson's employment application.

                                                             X

Are you currently employed?  Yes______   No______    X

                                                                        X

I actually saw that on teh book faces with the question being, "Are you an Alabama kicker?"  But since I haven't seen one FG attempt this year by a Bama kicker, it didn't hit home with me.

Carlson remains unemployed and apparently unemployable.

Makes you wonder if Gus ran him into the ground, too.  All those fizzled drives that led to FGs...

Talk about ridiculous contracts and high buyouts. The Raiders are more screwed than Auburn in those terms.

Talk about tarnishing your legacy.  Gruden was for some reason thought of as one of the greatest coaches ever, and his name was mentioned for every job opening from your local wee wee team to the NFL.  He had the cushy MNF gig, and worked the draft as an expert.  Now, he's showing everybody that he wasn't all that and a bag of chips.

Been saying that to anyone who listens (nobody) for years.  He sucked at the Raiders before and was fired inherited a loaded Tony Dungy team at Tampa won a Super Bowl and then systematically ruined that franchise and was let go again.  There was a reason he was an announcer.  It's the same reason Gene Chizik is an announcer, and Gus Malzahn will be.

Never understood the love affair with him.

So Coach, break down Michigan State's chances against the Buckeyes in Columbus this weekend.

Yeah, they had a great week of practice.

I’m not ready to sit up here and say which teams going to win.  They’ll keep working hard, getting better and we’ll see.

That ^^^.

I’ve posted his year by year record before. Sans the super bowl team dungy assembled gruden is a .500 coach. The myth that he’s some holier than thou guru the last 10 years is some of the best propaganda I’ve ever seen.

Good news is, at least we won’t hear his name for every opening now. Unless it’s a broadcast gig.

Probably a better coach than Gruden at this point.
