Auburn
Pretty clear that in big games when expectations are on his side, Gus tightens up, his staff tightens up, and his players tighten up and the engine locks. If the hype had been on the other side, Auburn would have won by two scores or more. He's a quality coach, for sure, probably overpaid but aren't they all? He is not a championship-level coach. 2013 is the closest Auburn is going to get to a title under this regime.
Rest of SEC
Alabama and Georgia (fudge Georgia!) are on a different level. You are going to hate reading that and I hate typing it, but it's true - it's damn true. Yeah, yeah, best teams money can buy...we are all buying these guys. They do things with them no one else does. Proof is on the field and the scoreboard. Arkansas is trash. TAMU is inconsistent. Ole Miss has a QB and WRs but not much else. MS State has some talent (for them) but still aren't all that good. Florida is garbage. Tennessee is real garbage. Kentucky is taking advantage of those previous two teams being down a step. South Carolina is what they always are - just kind of there. Vanderbilt is plucky, but not very good. Missouri is all flash no bang.
ACC
It's Clemson and a bunch of upper-level CUSA teams.
BIG TEN
Outside of Ohio State, there's not much top level here. Just a lot of mediocre football teams.
BIG 12
Outside of Oklahoma, not sure there's much here either. Yeah, West Virginia. Talk to me about the couch burners when they beat a good team. (And Tennessee is not a good team just because they got one of Bama's coaches.)
PAC 12
Washington is a tough team but they have flaws and probably won't survive the schedule to make the playoffs. Stanford is not that good but not bad either. Just not special there in Palo Alto. Oregon is okay. USC is meh. Utah is Utah. And the rest are forgettable.
-
Agree on Gus. He’s a 7-5/8-4 type coach, who will have an occasional 10 win season. No point bitching about this loss, we saw the exact same type of loss in 2014, 2015, 2016.
And we are stuck with him for at least 4 seasons.
-
Just don’t fool yourself into thinking we lost to a good team.
We lost to a caveman and a third rate QB.
It was humiliating. And I’m sick to death of that garbage.
-

You forgot about their offensive coordinator who couldn’t run a successful offense with Ronnie Brown, Carnell Williams, and Jason Campbell, was leaps and bounds better than our offensive genius.

Because he had a plan and stuck to it instead of being stuck to the same 8-11 plays no matter who is on the field. That's the difference.
-

Yep. Clowned us. Stidham has regressed. Why would any legitimate quarterback want to be a part of that cluster fuck?
Losing happens. Losing to inferior teams and getting dick punched in the process cannot for $49 million. That’s what I hate about Alabama. They are consistent. Always prepared. How can that be so difficult? I swear, Prowler and I could have done a better job with that yesterday. A dead monkey could have generated 31 - 40 points with what was there.
Dammit to hell im sick of this.
On another note. I went to the south Alabama game after our shit show ended. They were begging the city of Mobile for $10 million to help fund a $72 million on-campus facility. Why? There were MAYBE 15,000 people there. 42 cheerleaders, so every 1500 or so had their own personal cheer director. Like AU they blasted snippets of shitty rap music after every play. And yet the audience was 90% older white people. If they aren’t coming to see the shitty barely above high school level games now how is a $72 mil boondoggle going to change that?
-
We can expect this for the rest of his time on the plains. We’ll win 7 or 8 games every year maybe beat Bama every few years. Auburn is a basketball school now see y’all in October.
-
20 points looks like our ceiling against relatively good teams. Our offensive line is subpar and our corners mug receivers both of which lead to 100+ yards in penalties.
Right now I say we lose to State, TAMU, Fuck Georgia and the Turds.
Did I leave anyone out?
That's right Gus, "it's not the end of the world"...AGAIN!

That^^^.
I give credit when due. 3 of the playoff teams from last year - uga, bammer and Oklahoma. No shame losing to them. They were and are good teams. ESP Oklahoma right at end of year. But LSU has an nfl caliber defense and not much else. Their coaches are morons. Their oline was luke warm. Rbs not impressive. Wrs avg. Their qb was mediocre at best. We made his ass look good. Even then his stat line was horrible. Dude completes 40% of his passes.
Ill say this: the pass interference/holds on long passes were suspect. Not consistent with the no calls on the LSU secondary. It kept 3 drives alive that would have been a punt or turnover on downs. That said - it shouldn’t have come to that. Up 21-10 in command, with ball and momentum? Yeah that’s inexcusable. And two years in a row.

Honestly thought 20-21 points would win this game. It was the 22 we gave up that surprised me. Some of it due to suspect PI calls. Some of it due to suspect dB play mainly by Jamel dean.

#1 reason for the loss: Refs.
#B: Front 7 sucked ass. Never got near Burrow all day.
#3: Refs
D: Unimaginative play calling. 1 running play in the playbook and 3 total pass routes.
Next: Malzahn should have taken one for the team and got hisself throwed out. Sorry, but Saban would have had those motherfuckers apologizing and buying him drinks by half time.

The play calling was unimaginative almost as if it was planned ahead for our offense to live and die by a few base plays. Maybe the idiot chose this game to hone the incredible skills of our offensive linemen. Coaches do that you know albeit in middle school.
We gonna run it right at 'em till we get it right.
I see the bad call but we have sat on a lead against LSU two years running.
Know our best defender Williams is INJURED and we might have brought a safety a few times but we can't cover anyone so there's that.
-
Who the hell are we going to beat out of the SEC this year? Arkansas and UT probably, but who knows about UT? Gus gave Kirby his first signature win he may gift one to Pruitt too.
MSU, UM, and TAMU are toss ups. And I would pick MSU over us right now.
I don’t have much hope for the next 3 years. I will keep saying that each year we keep Gus, player development and recruiting lacks in certain areas, the program will be set back another year.
-
Look, if the refs get their collective heads out of their asses, we're sitting at #5 and talking about barbecuing some Hawg this week. These were two pretty evenly matched teams and despite the unimaginative play calling, we had that game snatched from us. Plain and simple.
Here's the thing for me with Gus. Our talent is on par with anyone in the country except maybe Alabama. Sorry, but those guys have been stockpiling/buying 5 stars at every position for years and years. What it comes down to in those match ups is usually coaching. Last year, Gus' staff was on a roll and outcoached and outplayed both Fuck Georgia and Alabama. But 90% of the time, Alabama is just plain going to be more physical, faster and more talented than everyone they play. Did anyone watch them against the Land Shark Bears last night? Granted and as I said earlier, Ole Miss is fucking putrid on defense. Historically bad. But Bama was toying with them on every single play.
We can't do that. Our talent is top 10 level. But we have to have everything go right to beat the LSU's, Fuck Georgia's and Bama's of the world. Our game plan/play calling has to be spot on. We have to be injury free and our players execute at a high level to win against good teams. We did that yesterday. Not great, but give LSU a little credit. The refs bent us over and went in dry. Think about how many times you said, "Well damn, LSU shouldn't even have the ball right now." It wasn't just one or two times. It was over and over and over. We played well enough to win and got fucked. No...it would not have been a pretty win. But, we'd be on here talking some shit and feeling pretty good about ourselves with a 21-19 win over #12 and a close win over #6. But no, we're wondering if we'll win another game.
Bullshit. We're number 10 in the country with Arkansas coming to town. Let's roll those bitches and get back on track.
-
The real reason why we lost...the fuckin field goal snapper. He snaps it better, ball gets placed on time and spun correctly, Carlson doesn't kick the ball on the laces...FG Good Auburn wins that game.

I will sexually assault your grandchildren. With a broom stick or some other inane object that might be readily available. The long snapper was the only solid part of yesterday's performance.

Other inconvenient football musings.
Wisconsin got beat by a bunch of 27 year old Mormons. Michigan State got handled last weekend by the Fighting Herms. BTW, MSU had 18 starters back off a 10 win team. Notre Dame squeaked by the worst team in the SEC at home by 5 points. The Men of Troy went out to Lincoln and stolt some lunch money from the Huskers. (Why we refuse to play Troy, I'll never know.) The Florida State Semen Holes are 1-2 with the lone victory being a come back win over Samford. Not Stanford....Samford...as in the Ham. Syracuse fucking owned that ass yesterday. #7 Auburn lost by 1 point on a last second field goal to the number 12 team, after getting skull fucked by the refs.
Bottom line, it's wide open. We have a couple of games coming up where we can get our shit on a roll. Like always, we had an early season hiccup (Fuck the refs...Fuck Georgia). But now is when we normally get our roll on. Boobie goes 167 against Arky. I'm starting a new Hottie thread. You fuckers failed to participate in the LSU thread and cost us the game. Get your shit together, X.

Again...we’re up 21-10, in control and with the ball. It really shouldn’t have came down to a missed fg.

Agree with all but the vandy part.
Ark is by far the worst team in the league. It’s not even close.

Oh okay, a fairytale ending. Now I get it.
We overcome our coaching, blocking and coverage inadequacies (just like last season) only this time we go on to conquer college football. I like it.
You need therapy.

So, we beat the #6 team in the nation and then lose to the #12 team in the nation by 1 point on a last second field goal, after getting dry ass fucked by the refs. We're #9 in the AP. We have Arky and Southern Miss coming up and YOU think I need therapy. BTW, if you think any of those pass interference calls were legit, you need to seek help as soon as possible.

So we were robbed, not outcoached and outplayed? That's what you took from Saturday's shitfest?
-
So we were robbed, not outcoached and outplayed? That's what you took from Saturday's shitfest?
Yep, 100%. If you had had the balls to show up in JHS, you would have found that 70,000 Auburn fans agreed with me. When two teams are equal in talent, it comes down to coaching and/or calls. The refs were so fucking bad Saturday, that it literally turned the game around. You seriously watched any replay of the "pass interference" calls and blame our coaching staff? Really?
LSU wasn't #12 for no reason. We joked and made excuses for them being there. But that was a fucking message board. They are right there man for man as talented as we are. Do you even pretend to look at recruiting rankings/services? That team is every bit as talented as we are. Despite our shortcomings, we did what it took to win that game yesterday and had it yanked out from under us.
I choose to believe we will get it rolling, starting with this weekend. You continue to take drugs and grill hot dogs.
-
I don't use the refs as an excuse.
They miss calls, sometimes badly but I always know there were other instances prior to that call or afterwards where my team failed.
And unless it's a bang-bang call at the very end I rarely get excited.
-
So....what about the blatantly missed PI call (2) on the last drive that put them in winning FG range....sits outside the realm of "Bang-Bang" for you? You didn't think the fact that the refs completely blew that call to give LSU the game was important? Must have been our coaching staff shitfest that caused the ref to throw that flag when Jamel Dean made one hell of a play with the game on the line.
Got it!
BTW, go back and check the video I posted and then tell me how we fucked up.

Agree. It was definitely a bad call by a ref that couldn't see Dean's hands. Assumed what he could not see.
I know we are seriously challenged up front and that Yaw Yaw, Emnsfinger and Burrows worked their plan to a tee.
LSU also knows Steele's tendencies, they block well and we couldn't pressure them.

I know, but I'm gonna keep it down home cuz.

It's the CFP/Saban effect, honestly.
What you're talking about is one of the reasons I used to love college football. Anybody could win. That was the reality. You could have a Georgia Tech or BYU or Colorado come out of nowhere and win the national championship. One loss wasn't a disqualifier.
Now? You start the season with five or six teams that have any chance whatsoever of making it. The rest? You're excluded no matter what you do. Yeah, we're one of those five or six but the margin of error is now reduced to nothing.
It's changed the way I look at and feel about all of it. I don't like it.

I had an LSU fan show me photos of all of them and explain how each was legit, there should have been more calls but the refs were trying to give us the game, and that we fumbled on the second drive (true probably, but we recovered it so whatever).

If Jay Jacobs had just let Kirby Smart coach in the damn championship game, we wouldn't be dealing with this shit now.

Look, I agree with Snagg. The ref's were TERRIBLE!!! It seemed like everything we did was getting reviewed or called short so on and so on. But the biggest reason we lost that game was a few things.
1. Stidham refused to look off the safety. Several times receivers run up the field with db 5 yards behind. He chooses to throw to the not so open guy.
2. Both O-line and D-line sucked
3. We came out flat and couldn't catch a damn pass in the first quarter. (also back to Stidham making terrible reads).
4. LSU came out and exsposed our straight up weakness of pass defense. (the worst part of our entire team).
5. Legatron 2.0 needs to get his head out of his ass!!! He comes off as if he's earned his legacy already. His brother looked like he was out there trying to keep from loosing his job on every kick.
Bottom line, yes the ref's were awful but if we make the plays we are supposed to make, we win.

Agree 100% only thing I will add is I thought Gus called a horrific 4th quarter, looked like again we were playing not to lose, rather than to win.

Pass Interferences for the secondary
Holding for the OLine
The two positions of concern that we all had going into the season.
I know we were all jumping for joy, like Christmas came early, when the tackle, from mighty UMass, signed with Auburn and became the starter...and when the wide receiver from Trussville, Noah Iggy, transitioned to CB and became the starter.

Yeah Prowler we see these head scratching deficiencies but I offer Chad Slade and Neiko Thorpe as exhibits 1 and 2.
Fast forward a couple of years and Driscoll might be the starting right tackle with the NYGiants and Igboghene at corner with the Cardinals.
It's like that planet X thingy. Cool huh?
Except Gus is still calling plays and Yaw Yaw has beaten us nine straight times.
-
For the record, nothing is ever as bad as it seems or as good as it seems.
LSU came out and played really good. Burrows impressed me. Ensminger's play calling impressed me. Auburn was lucky to be down only 10 in the first 20 minutes or so of the game.
Then Auburn turned it around. Gus finally sat Kam and we started running the ball up the middle with Boobee and it opened up the defense. We scored 21 straight. Held LSU over and over and over again and then offense started stalling. Some was play calling, some was good LSU defense, some was penalties that killed us.
The last quarter was brutal for penalties though. Auburn had 2 holding penalties that stalled drives and 2 PI calls that kept drives going for LSU. Plus Stidham threw a knuclehead pick while driving at around the 25 where a score could have put the game away too. That's tough to over come. LSU did enough to win the ball game and didn't make mistakes. You have to give them credit. They played good and Burrows impressed me. He damn sure didn't play like a third rate QB.
With that said though, LSU scored 2 TD's in the game. One was on a short field off a turnover, and the 2nd was a 70 yard pass. Every thing else was FG's.
I understand the frustration of losing, but damn, I agree with Snags, y'all are acting like we just lost to Kentucky. We lost to LSU when ALL the things above went against us. Shit happens some times.

The two positions of concern that we all had going into the season.
I know we were all jumping for joy, like Christmas came early, when the tackle, from mighty UMass, signed with Auburn and became the starter...and when the wide receiver from Trussville, Noah Iggy, transitioned to CB and became the starter.
I was not. Okay...maybe a little about the tackle.
I knew there were some problems when my boy Igbo cracked the starting lineup at Corner though. He played RB and WR exclusively for the Huskies.

Speaking only for myself, I'm good with a split with the Turds even though it's really once every four years we beat 'em.
But I cannot handle losing to Georgia or these half snooty- half river rat Mardi Gras freaks. Never, never, NEVER!
Makes me want to climb a bell tower.

I'm sure there are some exceptions among those sewer dwellers.

I think that's what is the crux of everyone's frustrations. I just feel like Auburn under Gus is the very definition of insanity.

Can even say as much about the Tubs era in many instances. It's having a lead with a better team and coach but there's that Ground Hog Day moment (perhaps the early pick...IDK) when things start to unravel inexplicably and goes to shit from there. And there's no overcoming it, IT JUST IS!
It's Jim Donnan, Joe Fucking Cox, Yaw Yaw, Joe I Don't Know Burrow- we fucked insanity.

Auburn has 2 plays of over 30 yards - 13th in the SEC
(LSU has 5, by the way.)
Auburn only has 1 play more than 50 yards.
Auburn is ranked 12th in yard per play in the SEC.

To be fair, no one else in the SEC has faced Washington and LSU. Those stats may pick up this weekend. Washington has given up 3 (North Dakota....yeah, I know) and 7 to Utah on the road.

One last thing we failed to note in our loss to LSU is that they whipped our front seven with an offensive line they rebuilt in the off season.
Done talking about it and moving on.
