Title: Three plays to win, Alex
Post by: Kaos on September 24, 2008, 10:14:49 AM
I have been thinking about this for almost a week now.  It occurs to me that had Auburn used Kodi Burns on just THREE freaking plays -- THREE PLAYS -- Auburn wins.

First:

On the first drive of the second half, third down 17  at the LSU 26.  (At the 26 because of two dumb plays, but we'll ignore that).  Todd takes an eight yard sack, turtling to the ground BEFORE HE GETS HIT when he sees two people blitzing from his right.  Out of FG range.  Middle of the field is wide open.  Burns would have run straight ahead for an eight yard gain as the blitzers have no pursuit angle.  Instead of a punt, AU kicks a 35-yard field goal.

On the second drive of the second half. Fourth and one at the LSU 32.  Todd rolls out and throws the most ignorant pass in college football history.  Interception.  Scoring threat denied.  Burns would have easily snuck forward for the first.  OR, if the rollout had been called, he would have been fast enough to run for the first down.  MINIMUM three points there.

Those TWO plays alone and it's at minimum 27-26 Auburn.

AU has the ball, first and ten. Five minutes to go. Leading 21-20.  AU runs the slow-developing handoff play to the short side that Ben Tate cannot run.  In the 50 previous times it's been tried, Tate has -18000 yards.  AU runs a completely disjointed pass play.  Tate runs to the right -- the play he CAN gain yards on -- and gets five.  Has anybody else noticed this?  Tate runs that slow developing play to the left and he gains nothing or loses.  Runs it right and he gains yards.  Anway, if Burns is in, here's what happens:  Fake the handoff to Tate.  Kodi runs right for five yards, second and five.  Quarterback draw for four yards, third and one.  Tate runs right for five yards, first and ten.  Clock running.... see the pattern?

I understand that you're frustrated.  We all are.

But you cannot, with any degree of certainty, say that your predictions would have come to pass.  Pure, unadulterated speculation.

It's just as possible that Burns shits the bed.  I'd prefer to see Burns in action and take that chance, but you're still just pissing in the wind with your faux play-by-play.

Not speculation.  I envisioned it.  See the ball, be the ball, remember?  It worked out in my head, thus it would have worked in real life.  I can also show you on video how much green grass there was on the first two plays.  Unless Kodi trips on a shoelace, those are both pretty much locks.

By the way, my soul continues to ache:

Franklin "saw zip" on Todd's passes and plans to call more running (lumbering) plays for the QB.  *sigh*

It defies logic why kodi can't put a toe on the field. During the lsu I convinced myself he must be hurt. Reality set in after that.

There has got to be some behind the scenes shit that the coaches aren't letting out.  Why the fuck else would you keep a five star player with his talent on the bench.  Hey here's an idea, let's go ahead and put Blackmon over there with him, so the coaches can prove to everybody that we don't need five star talent to win ballgames.

If we lose a few more games and if Burns transfers, we will not have to worry about this any longer...because we will have a new head coach.

Franklin would be fired first. Tuberville isn't going anywhere soon.

Maybe Burns doesn't know how to run the entire offense?

Who would they point the finger out if Franklin was allowed to do whatever he wanted for an extended time period?

Who's to say Tuberville GIVES him "an extended period of time"?

where is all of this shit where Burns doesn't know the offense coming from?  Did any of you give him a pop quiz and asked him to take it on the offense?  Have you probed his brain to see if he doesn't know a play or two?

Oh, I know!!!  The coaches say that he doesn't know the offense so thats what we all fucking believe now?  Well, the coaches also said he would get some snaps in the last two games and we all fell for that one too.

How in the fuck does a guy go around selling an offense/system to damn HIGH SCHOOLS and we hire his bum ass to implement his offense at Auburn.  Do you really think that this offense is so damn complicated that a person wouldn't know it... after a year???

Think about that... a year.... in this offense....and he doesn't know it?  I'm sure he knows it, can he properly execute every play to perfection?  Doubt it, but then again who can?

This Burns fucker knows the offense, i'm just tired of hearing he doesn't.

No, that would appear to be Franklin's problem.

Okay, I admit to not reading everything that comes out of CTT's or Franklin's mouth.  But, I have yet to hear any of our coaches say that Burns is not getting our offense or doesn't understand the O.  Maybe they've said it but I haven't seen it.  In fact, their actions up until he got hurt said just the opposite.

Too close to call between he and Todd....Burns was the starter and all that...

Now, he's just marinating.  Come All Over Her Face hit the nail.  Franklin sells this offense to high schools.  And people suggest Burns just doesn't get it.  A caller to our local sports talk show last week said, "I heard that Kodi Burn's just don't understand a single component of this here offense"

Guess what, you heard that or thought that yourself because Kodi Burns is black.  It's just like the two old farts sitting in front of me at the Iron Bowl last time the Mullets won, when I hollered to put Jason Campbell in the game.  One turned around and said you have to have it upstairs to play QB.  You have to think quick like a fighter pilot and Campbell just don't have it.

Wonder why he made that assumption?  Wonder what he thinks now?

I can't remember that far back.

It was very clear that Jamarcus didn't think like a fighter pilot while he was here.  He would wait so long to throw it that many of his football plays were very sandlot-like.  His taking of a sack against yall in 2006 was outright terrible.

He's still doing it that way in the league.

Guys like Steve McNair and Randall C. didn't have that problem. :) :)  So it's not a black thing, it's an intelligence thing.  I can think of some real dumb white NFL QB's that did alright... Terry Bradshaw and Joe Namath were no fighter pilots in their own right.

It's kind of like the media describing a new black coach.  Have you ever heard an analysis that didn't use the terms, "Bright" and "Articualte"?
