Title: The AD search
Post by: Kaos on January 07, 2018, 09:24:17 AM
Still going on quietly it appears.

Apparently the woman who is rumored to have spread her jelly among many in high school has rescinded her interest -- or was told she didn't have a prayer.

Two others (Flint Whitrock and Benedict Denson or some such) are also out.

Does it even matter?

No, you completely misunderstood. I said I licked the jelly off Tim Cook. Wait. This is PM, right?

I have never hoped that you were more wrong about something.

But seriously, wouldn’t it be just like us?

Who else could ever beat both teams soundly that are playing in the national championship game and yet be sitting at the house? And get beat by ucf to boot?

Go undefeated in the SEC and yet get left out as we’ve also done.

Point is, we are capable of getting rid of Jay and downgrading. This is for certain.

Because I really don’t think he is the worst we could do. He did some really good things. But it’s definitely time to get someone new in there. New blood with adequate  AD experience, a good leader with vision. And few AU connections. This is my wish.

Make it so.

Edit: The new person needs to copy Jay’s attention to game day experience and continue to focus on it. I think he did a really good job with this part. I hate most of the stadium stuff but game day is 🍑y.

Just found an 8th sign of the apocalypse. I read this all the way through and agreed with it 100% as if I typed it myself, and then looked at the author afterward.

But seriously, the Auburn fan hyperbole that Jacobs was the absolute worst possible AD could very well be tested and disproven with this next hire. Just feels like a very Auburn thing to do.

McKenna-Doyle seemed to tick all the right boxes. Had national prominence. Worked her way to a top ranking position with the NFL. Had a business acumen rather than being just some former player. But best-of-both-worlds in that her placement wouldn't be nepotistic hire who "played for Dye", but at the same time actually did go to Auburn and loves Auburn. Bonus points for having a vagina given the current political climate, especially considering what went down with the softball staff. That aspect would have been seen as Auburn doing something proactive to combat that scandal, and probably would have gotten ESPN off of our nuts a bit.

But somehow we managed to fuck that right up, so we're probably gonna end up hiring Yellawood or some other incestial hire and be worse off than we started. War Eagle anyway.

I'd like to amend my "I will never miss Jay" response.

I'm hearing today that the usual suspects are pressuring Leath to hire Tim Jackson.

I'm not sure that's something that I can support or live with.  I might turn my back on AU athletics and just support the college as a whole.  I'm a little pissed at the school, too, honestly.  So I don't know.

Tim Jackson would be a punch in the nuts.

Yeah, but Jay still got blamed for it. I guess it was seen as she was "just following orders" from Jay.

And if we get Tim Jackson, yeah, exactly what I said applies in spades.

Agree on Jackson. Much much worse than Jay. If leath is smart he will know better. There is a reason jay is leaving and hiring jackson just makes jay resigning null and void. Only worse.

If, like me, you've never heard of the guy, you can read about him here:

Five years as a NFL GM does not hurt his case.  We don't need a superstar.  We need someone who can make tough decision when needed to.

He married pretty well.

Only recall Jeff Fisher's name coming up on another thread which sort of produced the name of Les Snead and the Rams connection. But I don't fault Snead for the failings of Fisher who was 31-45-1 there.
Appears the Rams have put together some good drafts to make them a contender and Snead has a hot wife last I saw but other than that...

He would be very good.

Guy I work with was his college roommate and best man at his wedding. Both from Eufaula.

He's told me in the past that he thought Les would come back home one day and ultimately end up as AD if the job was open. He would be the ultimate combination of an auburn guy that understand it at the grass roots fan level but also someone with some executive business chops.

I know some fans as well as jeff fisher blame Les for the rams mediocre record under fisher because of his auburn pipeline pics and Goff. Fisher is just a mediocre coach IMO. You can see what they did this year without fisher.

St Louis fans don't blame Fisher or Snead at all.  The Rams were put together to suck, and that came from Stan Kroenke, so he could move the team.

I know when he was GM here, and the Rams had three or four Auburn players on the roster (and one on the coaching staff), he invited the Auburn Alumni Club of STL to meet the players after a game, which I thought was pretty cool.

To see comments on their social media outlets you wouldn't know it. I saw some of those fans call for everything but an ass raping in re to Les. I do have to admit the picks of Robinson and Mason fizzled a bit. ESP Robinson. But everyone thought the guy was a sure fire bet. Regardless I think Les would be a great hire.

WOTS Auburn's new AD will be Allen Greene (Univ. of Buffalo's AD). He worked in the financial dept. alongside Danny White at Ole Miss, then became associate AD at Buffalo, under Danny White. Greene became AD at Buffalo in '15 when White went to Central Florida.
Highly recommended by former Ole Miss AD Pete Boone and Duke AD Kevin White. Definitely not a "Good 'ol Boy Network" type.

Who gives a shoot what color the man is?  Time to be way past that.  Just make good hires.  Raise a buttload of money.  Keep all facilities at least on par with all the big playas.  And demand that your programs stay as clean as possible.  Or at least keep it within 10-15 m.p.h. over the speed limit.

That is up to him. I have no issue with anyone's race, until they make it an issue. If this is always about AU, then its all good. If he falls into the trap, then there will be issues. He avoided the trap today. But the Montgomery writer tried to set that trap! There will be more traps.

And there better be no kneeling!

This doesn’t interest me.

Regarding Notre Dame...meh.  We have never played them to my knowledge. Storied program not so much lately. .  It would be a Alabama lite slob fest from the media.

We need to step out of our comfort zone. Been too regional for far too long. Notre Dame regardless of their malaise has cache...moreso than a Miami or Oregon. The Irish fans travel and spend bucoos of bucks plus we can line them up as opponents in other sports like roundball.
Furthermore:
We get consolation matchups against UCF because we haven't ventured out enough. UGA and LSU seldom get shafted in matchups because of the perception of being more of a national brand. Don't know why it just is. But if we think small we get small.

Notre Dame's name recognition will never fade, regardless of their success or failures.  Yes, of course they're way overhyped, but they have a massive following and the media soooo wants them to be relevant consistently on the national stage again.  Clemson is by far the better program and I'd have absolutely zero interest in playing them again.  Not because they've taken 3 out of the last 4 from us in tight games.  Just that this rivalry doesn't interest me anymore.  I love that we're playing Washington this season.  Would love to get Texas in a home and home.  Maybe Miami or Michigan and yes, Notre Dame.

Plus, Clemson is just Auburn with a lake.

Malzahn told Greene the story of the first time he ever visited Auburn. It was 2006, and he was in his first year as the offensive coordinator at Arkansas.

"He came to play against Auburn, and he left here feeling just incredibly warm and (with) a unique feeling of Auburn that it may be hard to put your finger on," Greene said. "But you and Kristi both said `You know what, I could see myself there.'

He left with a warm feeling cause he and McFadden had just whipped our #2 ranked ass.  Fuck that was a painful game.
