1) petal to the metal
2) peddle to the metal
3) peddle to the meddle
4) pedal to the meddle
5) petal to to the middle
6) petal to the meddle

Please for the sake of all that's holy, turn the water cannons on these misplayed idioms.

It is PEDAL (like gas pedal) to the METAL (like steel).

Yes, that is my gripe for the day.

Maybe it is because none of these young whippersnappers have ever even seen metal on the floor board of their BMWs!

Many of the old sayings are dying off! Yet some have heard them but know not of whence they came.

Therefore, pedal and metal are just words sounded out!
