That was back in the day when Gus Malzahn knew how to shape an offense around the skill set of his QB.  Did Tulsa run the read option for 2 years when they lead the nation in offense? Nope.  Could Chris Todd run faster that Nick Marshall's great grandma?  Neeewwww....  Did Cam "Black Power" Newton run the same true read option Nick Marshall did?  Nada.  It was read option but with so many more "options" for the QB than what he had Marshall running.  Was Ryan Aplin at Arky State a R.O. quarterback?

In other words, Gus used to have a clue how to gear an offense to the strengths of his skillz peeplez.  Now?  He's reduced to 85% of his plays being hand offs between the tackles.  Translation:  Full Tard!

It's really interesting to me what happened though.  Is it like Tiger Woods and golf?  He just fucking lost it?  I understand that defenses have seen his offense for a few years now and are better prepared for it but it doesn't explain why he can't adjust when he once could.  A few years ago I would consider him to be the best 1st series script coach in the game.  1st drive was nearly always a touchdown in less than 2 minutes.

And when is the last time the quick huddle where they basically huddle on the ball and quick snap it actually gained a 1st down?

Fuck you.  We got 7 yards against Alabama A&M last year late in the 3rd out of that formation.  Winning!

Yes, I have no doubt this man has completely lost it as a play caller, coordinator, head corch!

You are totally missing the point. It's what the play represents.

You seem to be among those that are focusing on the first down or yardage.

How did we find TV acceptable before HD!

Actually, he did.  Look back at the plays, Cam was running the same offense Marshall was.  Gus has been a one trick pony for awhile we were just wearing O&B glasses and didn't see the signs.

I can't attest to Tulsa, but I will say the only outlier in the Gus that I have seen is Chris Todd, although I would make a bet that it's the same offense we are running today.   I would have to go back and look, and frankly I don't give a fuck.

I believe that it is this kind of attitude and inattentive behavior that has contributed to the rapid erosion of the x.

I think there once was a time when you would have supported your argument with facts and examples.

Now, you just fling it out like feces onto a wall. Or, your face.

And the readership can tell that you don't care by the way.

You can't ignore the fact that a read option QB takes much of the play calling away from Malzahn.

Tulsa and while building weapons for Todd he had moderate skill sets as far as numbers are concerned.

And that was my argument about Cam not needing a playbook. He fit passes into tight spots, ran the draws and he had a veteran line.
We also came from behind to win late in 5 games.

I can't remember when we have done that since Marshall. When was the last time we held a good lead against a quality opponent?

We finally get a defense effectively erasing that excuse and Gus wants to go old school Big Ten.

Some of you act as if you aren't even on the Gus bus.

That's why I said it was read option with Cam but with more versatility.  In the 2 years Gus was OC at Tulsa, they threw for 47 and 46 TD's respectively.  The second year, QB David Johnson also had 18 interceptions, so it basically looks like they slung the ball all over the field. How his offenses have transformed into the junior high shitfest we've displayed twice this year is mind boggling.

I'd have to speculate 2009.

Not a whole a lot of room left.

I'm with K and his opinion.  I have went back and read some stats, number of plays, blah, blah, blah.  Something snapped with him in 14 after the A&M game.  I think he has the coaching yips and he is scared of other teams with similar or more talent and he coaches not to lose instead of coaching to win.  We were throttling LSU. Keep your foot on their throat until you see they are demoralized, then you can bring in the 2's and 3's while going conservative.

^^^This.

He didn't have to go Spurrier fun and gun. Just balance the ratio some and score more points. Milk the clock? Maybe keep it in mindbut quit making it the focus. Get first downs!

Too late to send pretty flowers. You can't tell that obstinate bastard anything. He knows more than all of us put together. And he will prove it. Hopefully, in 6-A.

I don't know about anything specifically happening in the Texas A&M game.  44 points and 630 yards put up on Bama in BDS a couple of weeks later ain't playing conservative.  That with a couple of dropped TD passes in the end zone.

The one thing I agree 100% on is Malzahn coaching scared against teams he perceives as having equal or better talent.  He's absolutely done that since 2014.
