Title: It could have been worse
Post by: Kaos on September 16, 2017, 11:29:04 PM
It could have been worse.

Just be glad Auburn didn't play Jacksonville State today.  Or Vanderbilt. Or Kentucky. Or Mississippi State. Or Florida. Or Tennessee. Or Georgia. Or anybody else.

We were in a one-score game in the fourth quarter against a program in its fourth year of existence. A team that lost to Samford a year ago.  A team that is 0-2 against Wofford in the last two years.

Could it have been worse?  Sure.  I don't know how.

I don't expect to win the NC every season.  But my lord, that was unacceptable on any level.

What a disgrace.

What pisses me off is that Gus and Jay have made me not care. What is usually my favorite time of year, I'm now apathetic. Fire him, keep him, whatever. I'm done.

Positive:

1.) Our D is legit.  So far there have been 24 points scored on them in 3 games.  I don't care who you're playing.  That's stout.  And the 10 scored today were solely because of turnovers and stupid shit by someone other than the D.

2.) Jarrett Stidham was 32-37 for 364 yards.  His one INT was Nate Craig-Meyers fault.  Hit him in stride but NCM hesitated and didn't go skrong for the ball.  Awesome performance by Stidham.

3.) Play calling.  What they did today is exactly what they should have been doing against Clemson last week.  Quick throws.  Getting it out of Jarrett's hand fast.

Negative:

1.) Turnovers.  We had 515 yards of total offense and 26 first downs.  Take away 3 of those stupid, careless TO's and we have probably 700 yards and a 52-3 laugher.  Turnovers ruined the day.

2.)  Play calling.  The quick throws referenced above were great.  Running Pettway 34 times, 30 of which were the same up the middle crap, was mind boggling.  Kam Martin saved your ass in game one.  He doesn't sniff the field since?  Pettway was productive.  But I'm sorry, I'll say it.  He looks slow and almost lethargic out there.  Injured? I don't know.  But a quicker change up every now and then would be almost Captain Obvious there, Gus.

Yep. 2nd half of Clemson was the culmination and finally, I felt like Gus does not know he needs a great runner at QB for his O to work well. Everyone else knows this.

I hate Jacobs and the big screen. It looks more red neckish than a prison tat to me.

Offense looked like warm puke. Instead of blaming receivers for not getting open, line for not blocking and QB for being slow--I'm just going to blame Gus. Makes it easier.

And JJ for the buyout.

I would put the freshman QB in some. Keeping on a zone read isn't a threat with Stidham.

Another thing that could be worse?

This forum could not exist and we'd be relegated to posting on shit like AUFambly.  They're in full moderating flex over there.

I decided to check that namby-pamby pussy fest after last week to see whether there was a meltdown or not.  If there was you'd never know.  Any thread that's deemed critical is Titaned out of existence.

What a bunch of fucking magoos.

Evntually, Jacobs will be fired. Regardless of the support by several donors, they won't finance the entire athletic dept forever.

And when he's gone, I think Gus be gone. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Butts in seats are soon to disappear.

Is it fudgeing true Gus said we only ran Pettway because "Mercer dictated it?"

Edit to add:  Yes, just saw K's other post, where Gus said that.  What in the actual fucking hell is wrong with him?

They did and they didn't. There were more short throws. And we finally got the RB short over the middle.

BUT, there is no way in hell Stidham gets that much time to throw against a good defense!

Now I will say this, you give that kid time to find an open guy, he can thread a needle.

Buy it ain't happening against and sec team.

We are done.

Needed this game to get Kmart and Malik M ready. Neither hit the field!

Is insanity impervious to pressure?
He keeps doing and saying the same each season with consistent, mediocre results.

Pettway has plantar fasciitis. You ever had a touch of it? It's absolutely debilitating. And he has no business even playing with it. I've had 2-3 times. Some days you can barely walk with it. And usually shoes and an uptick in volume is the culprit - but rest is the only way it will heal. Rest ain't 34 carries. PF is something very common with long distance runners. Not sure I've seen it much on a football player.

And we keep giving him raises and extending his contract.
So we start a campaign to get Jay and Gus lifetime contracts for their consistent, mediocre service to Auburn University.
Oversee it like a charity, take out ads and get notice if for nothing more than to see how far it can go.

Any sane staff would limit him yet ours wants to ride him to his death. It's almost a safe bet that these morons won't have Pettway and Johnson healthy at the same time all season...not that they would know what to do with two quality backs and ample backups anyway.

During the after the game interview, Gus said he folded up his notes and put them in his back pocket. He was also outed for not having a headset on. Drastic changes.

If that dude is playing running back on plantar fasciitis.....damn.  It's hard enough just to walk, I couldn't imagine having to make cuts on it.

Pain from the time you take the first step in the am. And it's gingerly.

Cannot imagine practicing or playing with it. Surely he's on back end of it because I can see jogging some with it but nothing fast.

Disagree with this.  I don't know that I would say his performance was awesome.  It was better, but we were playing Mercer.  I thought he played better in the second half, I'm hoping he is still shaking off the rust.

He is still holding onto the ball way too long and not always making good decisions.  His decisions also need to come at a much quicker pace.  He missed some wide open guys.  I think the performance was more about playing an inferior opponent.

Agree 100%.  I was nauseated.

First, your starting QB shouldn't be throwing 40 times against fucking Mercer.  Every time I looked he was making the same panicked mistakes.  The fucker has yet to step up in a pocket. He's crab clawing outside or pussy cringing into squats.  He should have had 300 yards in the first half and watched the second in shorts and sunglasses.

Second, you shouldn't run one guy 40 times against fucking Mercer. Not unless he's the third string guy and you need to get him the reps.  By mid third quarter against fucking Mercer the guys in the booth should be scrambling to figure out just who in the fuck that was who made the play.

That's what those games are for. Give the starters enough work so they stay sharp and let the backups earn their stripes so if somebody gets injured later in the season they aren't completely green.

Y'all can look for unicorns in the toilet if you want, but there was nothing about that performance (except on defense) which was encouraging at all.

Fuck Gus.

Probably not a smart move at this point. Wait til season's over. At least get as much time as you can in.

This sort of action tells me he is not the type of player to work for it. The defense is NOT an issue at this time!

I heard Pat Dye was going to resign after the Alabama game.  They're talking to Jack Crowe as a replacement, but I'd watch out for that little Bowden kid from Samford.  He's got a pedigree and ain't a bad coach.
