While the Luv Gov gets the boot and we all watch the circling buzzards, the crooks in the House pass some more taxes on dat ass.
A bill to increase the state gasoline and diesel tax by 4 cents a gallon this year and two cents a gallon in 2019 was approved by a House committee today.
The money would be pledged to fund up to $2.4 billion in bonds to pay for road and bridge work. Counties and cities would get half the revenue for local road work, while the other half would go to the state for projects chosen by the Alabama Department of Transportation.
The tax would increase by an additional 3 cents a gallon in 2024 unless the Legislature passed a resolution saying that the two previous tax increases were sufficient to pay the debt service on the bonds.
