Apparently John SarahJessica Parker Wilson Jingleheimerschmidt and Rent-A-Trent played the parts of Danny Etling and Leonard Fournette last week for bama's scout team.
Do you really need someone to "imitate" a deer-in-the-headlights, ineffective QB?
How embarrassing to go from Top 5 NFL draft to scout team performer...for your alma mater.

If they aren't part of the team as coaches, I am pretty sure that is illegal to do...

Found about this yesterday and apparently it isn't. USC has been doing it for the last couple of years with some of their alumni.

Nick swears in his presser that he got SEC and NCAA approval.
So, there's that.

Verne and Gary said it was fantastic.

It absolutely is a rules violation for all 127 FBS teams that actual rules apply to.

So, there's that.
Plus there was the backdated cease and desist letter.
-
Are they being paid for this?
I'd imagine that has to be written as a future NCAA violation.
"Come to Alabama. We'll get you prepared to be millionaires in the NFL but if not, we'll pay you like a professional to run on our scout team."

Or to run a business of our choosing.

whether they use alumni or not it doesn't matter. what advantage it gives them? why would it be a violation to begin with? so what if they pay them...it's Alabama's money to spend. No differnent than buying drill cones, or tackling dummies...wait, what?
the important thing says it all in wes' thread title.

Because it's a shady tactic that creates a conflict of interest in recruiting.
It is 100% a recruiting violation to guarantee employment or future payments for attending a university. For example, you can't just wait until after a player graduates to write him a $100k check. You also can't wait until after he graduates to promise him a cush job at an insurance company.
So it should also be illegal to advertise employment on the scout team after graduation.
And it's a pretty big advantage and a genius move by Saban. Your 1st stringers are only as good as the look they get in practice. You can't always have a Chad Kelly running the scout team, so how great would it be if you could have Peyton Manning come throw against your defense?

I think Peyton's arm is shot.

Werd. I don't see the problem, even if they're getting paid, which I imagine they were. They're not student/athletes (Never were) Just call them part of the support staff and do what you want.
Like you said, Wes' point is what's laughable about the whole thing.
