Title: Thoughts - Back from the Dead
Post by: Townhallsavoy on November 05, 2016, 11:40:51 PM
Auburn

- We learned that there is certainly no quarterback controversy. White is the most crucial part of the offense, and he needs to get healthy soon.

- White has longevity issues. Couldn't make it through all of 2015 and now has trouble making it through 2016. Two more years left for him to be our starter.

- Pettway getting injured while sprinting to the end zone felt like the football gods were cursing us. Rumors are he's day to day, but that's what we always hear from Gus. I fully expect to be without Pettway next week against Georgia.

- The defense is regressing. Has bad issues in pass defense.

- I still really like our chances next week. I would be disappointed if we don't win by at least 14 points.

Alabama-LSU

- No, that's not big boy football. That's not "how it should be played." Classic defenses they were not. That was a shitty football game, and Alabama did what they always do: wear down their opponent until they can close the game. I wouldn't rate this game much higher than the 3-2 Auburn-Miss State game of 2008. Really shitty play calling. God awful play from the quarterbacks. Lots of mistakes. If the stakes weren't so high, it would have been horribly boring and I would have switched it.

- If a team has FOUR players commit penalties and the other team has one, then those penalties should not offset. That is absolutely ridiculous. If you didn't see, there was a bit of a sideline scuffle and Bama had three or four players called for unsportsmanlike conduct. One of them was a blatant late hit on a defenseless player and considering it was at the start of a damn near brawl, he could have been ejected. But to call that offsetting? LSU can't defend themselves from a bunch of crimson assholes starting shit on their sideline?

- That was a major call because if they weren't offsetting and if they didn't call it against LSU as well, that could have been 45 yards for LSU's offense and put them in field goal range in a 0-0 game. Even if they only counted one of Alabama's many unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, that would have still put them in field goal range.

- Alabama's defense is tiresome. I got so sick of it that I quit caring. Then I couldn't care any less about them that I started getting sick again. They just suffocate the opposing team until they win. Their offense is awful. They don't have shit. A QB that can scamper but in a normal, non-steroid-filled game, Alabama probably loses. You shouldn't be allowed to get away with playing that bad on offense and still win convincingly almost every single week.

Heisman

- Gotta be Lamar Jackson's right? 3 games with 7+ touchdowns? Alabama likes tossing Hurts in the mix every now and then. Jackson has more touchdowns in 3 games than Hurts does all year.

DSOR

- Bad time to get the injury bug. This is a humongous game. We're 2-8 against Georgia over the last decade. That is completely unacceptable. We have the chance to beat the shit out of them, and I'm worried we're going to struggle. Maybe even lose if Eason gets a hot hand.

- If we beat Georgia, the Iron Bowl decides the West. How fun would that be?

Washington

- So I'm watching this late night football game...

- You ever look at some of these Pac 12 or Mountain West teams and just know that based on how they look, their body builds, the way they carry themselves on the field - you just know that they suck? That can't actually hang with a good SEC team?

- Washington looks that way. Super frumpy offensive linemen wearing those old school neck pads to make themselves look bigger. Roly poly defensive linemen, short armed and too much curly hair.

- They have a good receiver. That's for sure. One of their defensive lineman is a monster. The rest though look like scrub team guys. I don't blame the committee for leaving them out of the top four, and I think they'll be embarrassed if they do get in.

What the hell is wrong with this picture?  Penalty on #33 Alabama.  #94 Alabama.  #27 Alabama.  #99 Alabama.  #52 Alabama.  #84 Alabama.  #6 Alabama.  #64 LSU.  Those penalties offset.  Replay 2nd down.

Hey it's Alabama, the epitome of class. You need to cease and desist with your wild, slanderous insinuations.

The ticky tack personal foul also on lsu that kept bamas td drive alive. Or the non call hold on Scarborough on the actual td where he's practically sexually groping the guy - unreal. Thought lsu played intense for coach o and sad they came away with that result to show for it.

From looking at how he pulled up, how they were treating him on sideline and wots - pettway appears to have gotten a really bad hamstring cramp. If you've ever had one of these while running or even just laying in bed, they are absolutely excruciating. Pettway needs to up his salt intake against uga if he plays. Can't afford for that to happen again. And hope that is indeed all it was.

Hurts was out of bounds, and got hit.  I don't see the problem.  What was your take on the false start call against Alabama on LSU's 1 yard line where literally nobody moved? It wasn't even a "Weeeelllll, he sorta rocked". Literally nobody moved.  Total phantom call.  How about the handful of holding calls that should have been called against LSU when they were holding Alabama's DL?

But yeah, LSU was playing out of their minds last night.  Got to give them all the credit in the world.  Alabama looked like shit.  Some was self inflicted, but most was because of LSU.  With a true freshman QB in Death Valley I figured it would be a little rough, but the kid bounced back every time and eventually won it.  Can't ask for too much more than that.

Hurts looked terrible except for running.

I found it amusing to watch Verne and Gary gush over how Hurts was "hitting the mesh point" and how "dynamic" it was when the same two clowns routinely dismissed Auburn's offense, bloviated about how defenses had caught up to it and deemed it not viable long term.   The zone read is all Hurts was doing on those few plays.

Speaking of?  Keep him halfway contained running the ball and that is one putrid offense.  "The kid" didn't "bounce back and win" shit.  Gifted to him by officials that decided to let UA hold until he finally scored.

It was difficult watching that game knowing from about the second drive that LSU had absolutely no answer for Alabama's defense.  They have the players, but just didn't have a viable gameplan.  You can't play caveman football against that pack of brain-dead thugs.  Yet for some reason, year after year, LSU tries to do just that.

Even Gary said that when the tackle happened it started in bounds and he could have turned up field in theory if the guy doesn't make that tackle. Again, it's debatable but very ticky tacky. Let them just play unless it's extremely egregious. You know like Scarborough groping their player around the neck and arm.

Those calls changed the game.

And hurts looks very good as an athlete but very avg as a qb.

^^^This. The talk of this being Saban's best team ever? I do t know where this comes from. I cannot put this one in top 2. They are good, maybe a little better than us but they are VERY beatable.

If we play our best game, we will beat them.

I couldn't have said it any better.  If anyone is out there saying he's the next Cam, they're a dumbass.  I'm certainly not here telling you that he's all world.  Given the caliber of the defense he went against, being in Death Valley at night, and considering that this was pretty much LSU's national championship game, I didn't expect much out of him.  I wasn't optimistic that he could pull it out.  But he showed up when it counted.  I don't know that he can get Alabama to the playoffs, but even if he doesn't, I don't think he's that bad as a true freshman.

We won. They lost. The refs sucked showing out for Bammer Shaw.

Bama won because LSU is stupid. ($1 to K as he summed it up perfectly).

I don't even know who leads the SEC East now. I know it's not Vandy, South Carolina, nor Missouri. Could't even tell you beyond that. Not that it will matter at all.

Washington is going to get murdered in the playoffs if Mike Leach doesn't luck up and do it before they get there.

Clemson is as overrated as any team from the past 10 years. They are waiting to get racked like that FSU team a couple years back.

Michigan? Ohio State? Well, they eventually play each other. Leaning towards khaki pants in that one. Urban looks miserable. Might be time to visit the family some more.

Does anyone want Tom Herman from Houston any longer? Does Houston?

Notre Dame had six (6) possessions against Navy. 4 in the first half, 2 in the second half. That's how you beat a team. Hats off to the swabs for that.

Troy is 7-1. They get Appy State this week who showed us all how pussy Tennessee really is right out of the gate this year. We'll see if the Trojans can slide in through the Mountaineers.

Georgia - actually excited about beating Kentucky. I hope we run for 300 yards on those water-hoarding lotto-having mutts. I have a feeling it's going to be a tough one though with all the injuries.

John Franklin III should start one more game for Auburn - Alabama A&M - as a tryout to transfer there after this season ends.

Gus and Rhett should send a bag of candy dicks to the coach at EMCC.

The NFL sucks this year.

I loved how Verne and Gary gushed over how great of an athlete Hurt was on this one play with a bama player performing a half nelson, another with a rear necked choke, and another trying to piggy back...

If you make Hurts have to make throws to beat you and you don't turn the ball over yourself, you can beat them.  Just know that you will have to have the tailors on hand again to repair the DL's jerseys and if you need 3 yards you'd better get 6.

Also, if you catch the ball near the sidelines, you better have both feet in and you better not let the ball out of your hands even if you're laying on the ground...replay officials in Birmingham might see things differently.

I want to play fullback.  I'm not tall enough to be a QB. My knees slow me down too much to play tailback.  I don't want to play line.  Don't have the hops to play WR.  But I can block in the backfield. I will look for people to hit when townhall is running the ball. And I will move the pile for a yard or two when we need it on fourth down.

Let's do it.

I wanna be kick-off specialist, all the perks, wearing a uniform, running on the field with the crowd yelling and really don't get hit unless shit goes wrong. Plus all my kicks would look like on-side kicks.

Off the election discussion and back to foosballz.  There's an article on the dot  I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!!  I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others.  I like male genatalia in and around my mouth. about Auburn practicing to stop the Zach Cunningham type leap on extra points and field goals.  All about blocking and recognition.

In another piece I saw, Cunningham said the only reason he was able to do it was he had memorized Auburn's snap count.  It allowed him to time it perfectly, which is the ONLY way you can pull it off.  Now, I'm no coach or rocket surgeon but wouldn't the simple thing be to just...alter the snap count?

Too complicated?

If you go back and look at other FG tries, right after the holder looks away from the kicker to the line, the snap comes 1 second later. Easy fix, just alter the snap count. Some 1 second, some 2 seconds and such.

It's a good thing he didn't catch legatrons foot, been funny to see him fly through the goal post.
