I hate it for Les Miles. The vultures aren't circling, they're sitting on fenceposts and spreading their wings to warm before they flock to devour his carcass.
I hate it because he's an entertaining guy. He's one of the few opposing coaches I actually like. He's always on the verge of saying something funny.
I hate it because -- unlike the asshole in Tuscaloosa -- he understands that it's a game and the real purpose of his job is to improve the lives of the players long-term.
I hate it because when he makes mistakes, he makes them out of loyalty and trust. He gives his players the benefit of the doubt even when maybe he shouldn't. He sticks with guys like Brandon Harris because he wants them to succeed even when it's not going to happen. And he feels terrible when it doesn't work out.
I hate it because I've watched how he's handled the tragedy of Katrina and the terrible flooding that plagued Louisiana this year.
Les is a good guy. Goofy as hell and a pretty decent coach.
I hate it because LSU doesn't know who they really are. They think they are one of the traditional elites and have some birthright to championships. The truth is for most of the last 60 years, they've wandered the wilderness and been a middle of the pack program. Miles is as good a man as they're ever going to get. They may get a better coach, but they won't get a better MAN to be in charge of that program. I've watched him change the fan culture.
The pitchforks are out. They are sharp.

He's got an uphill climb. Apparently LSU whipped Auburn up and down the field tonight, but Les just can't manage the clock. Or so NOLA says.
:taunt:

Let's get him on the cheap.
-
Nope. Not after 2010 when the rest of the conference waited for "the Plains to burn" with anticipation. There is only Auburn and all the teams I want Auburn to beat.

We've had our version of him lately if Jefferson/Jennings/Harris can be said be to equivalent to Jeremy Johnson.

One has nothing to do with the other.
I don't want to lose to Les or anybody else. But in a league where there's Saban, Fat Bert, Muschamp, Smart, Boozy Sumlin, Red-face Jones....
He's one of the good guys.
He's recruited well at LSU but I stopped hearing about how much they cheat. I think he tries to do things the right way. Right now it's a good rivalry again. I enjoy the games against LSU and their fans have become some of the best.
Les is a good person with his priorities straight. I don't want to lose to LSU, but I still feel bad for him. I've got respect for the guy.

Minus the guy that tried to burn down Toomer's Oak trees.

Saw some things that seem crazy to me.
Miles is 10-8 in the SEC with Fournette.
Six games since Fournette scored a TD in the second half.
First and foremost? Fournette isn't all that. I heard the idiotic announcing crew call him the best since Bo. He's just not. He's not even in the same galaxy as Bo. I'm not all that impressed with him.
Worse SEC record since 2013 than Mississippi State.
Two touchdowns in the last seven quarters.
Haven't scored in the fourth quarter all season.
First or second for the last five years in players on NFL teams
So I guess the anti-Les crowd has a point. Except for using Fournette as a reason.

The grass is always greener tastier...
They'll regret running Les off just as I predict UGA will pine for the days of Richt.

I have no idea what his character is. He seems genuine enough. Don't care. He is a horrible coach. His terrible play calling and complete lack of clock management has finally caught up with him. I will be sorry to see him leave. LSU will upgrade, and with their talent, will continue to push our shit in.

Is he a horrible coach?
I don't buy that. He takes chances, flies by the seat of his pants sometimes. When it works he looks like a genius. When it doesn't? It's not pretty. Remember the last second TD to kill us in 2007?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP3Q1US7Mps
I ranted about what an idiot he was then. I was told repeatedly how brilliant he was for going that route. Perfect call.
For every bumblepudge like Saturday, he's got one or two like the 2007 dagger to match it.
Don't think he's a bad coach.

You are right. He is a good coach. He's had his moments re: clock mgmt but he's good and proven.
He was stubborn on Cameron but that's his call. Probably the best thing for him. He will have more success.

Agree. They forgot hallman and dinardo conveniently.
As for uga...I came to like richt. Hell, he beat us like a drum. I was glad he left if only for that reason. And no matter how many big games he couldn't win (not all his fault, Uga's admins and booster are as bad as ours) never would they have had it taken to them by the three teams that have taken it to them this year. And Nichols would have been over at half.

Didn't get the memo. Couldn't read it if he did.
Thanks Obama.

Made that statement before the memo. Just figured if was another ignorant fan of LSU.
-
Loved Miles. Great rep and leader for any program but no tactician on the field. That's what LSU lacked in him and why he's gone.
Still trying to figure out how they went from iron fisted Saban to Miles.
-
Are they going to put Yaw Yaw in the LSU school video now? It's too bad that Hummers are no longer made so they could cut to JoJo.

Richt was a fraud from a character standpoint. He was a very good recruiter and coach, though.

Hmm. You MIGHT be the only person in 10 states to make that accusation...

Have no clue about Richt's character. I thought he kissed babies and all that. The man was/is definitely a good recruiter and corch. I thought his shortcoming was what seemed like a zero tolerance policy. Screw up and he gone. Kind of the opposite of the win at all cost mentality I imagine you have to have in this league.

LSU's DL Davon Godchaux was arrested this morning...domestic abuse, child endangerment and false imprisonment.

I used to think that.
Do not now.

Not sure if this has already been stated, but Ed Orgeron was the one that fired LSU OC Cam Cameron. Said he wanted to go in a different direction offensively, promoted Coach Ensminger to OC.

Bullshit.

Maybe Les lands Notre Dame.
Brian Kelly the ass that he always was has thrown his entire team (with exception to the longsnapper) under the bus. Is he feeling his own failure by lashing out?
Or maybe, just maybe he's fed up, ready for a new challenge or just seekig another raise.
What could he do with Louisiana talent?
Then the guy I'm fairly sure they could get would be my choice...Jim Mora Jr.
And make no mistake about it this s.o.b. can coach, knows offense and is great bringing along QBs, only UCLA is inner city and of a soft league especially up front with line play. He looks sort of unassuming like an assassin but there's a jihad going on in that head of his. His disposition is a little more cloaked than Kelly but both are very good head coaches just challenged in different ways. Kelly has some that are privileged while recruiting is like dealing with exchange students.
The good news for both Kelly and Mora Jr. is that they both get a lame USC led by Todd (guaranteed for 5 years) Helton.
Recall the football broadcast icon and Paul Bryant promoter Keith Jackson always mentioning that Pat Haden was a Rhodes candidate and so heady as a leader.
Haden might even give Jacobs a run for the money in the worst category.
