Title: Hites & Waits
Post by: Snaggletiger on June 28, 2016, 10:46:45 AM
You know I'm a big heights and weights guy.  It's what I do.  In all srs'ness, I posted last year that I was concerned that our strength and conditioning program may be at the root of some of our problems.  No doubt they're in shape but it was evident that we were getting pushed around the field against teams that had no excuse manhandling us.  In posing that question to a strength corch buddy, he said that's absolutely the case. The big trend in college sports training has been going to more of a crossfit type regimen, bro.  Let's do some duck walks while holding dumbbells overhead, then quickly jump over to handstand pushups.  Let's measure and time everything.

I noticed on a recent video of Auburn's workouts, they seemed to be doing a lot more basic core strength moves.  A lot of benching, squatting and dead-lifting.  I don't know how much of a change, if any they've made.  I only know what I see and read about what they're doing.  But the updated roster suggests that more than a couple of them have been packing on the mass.  Whether it's muscle mass or donut mass, I guess we'll see.  Just a few of note:

Montravelosity Adams is up 13 pounds to 309

Jeff Holland has put on 10 pounds and is at 250

Carry On Johnson is up 16 pounds to 211

Alex Kozan is up from 300 to 310

Robert Leff is also sitting right at 300, up from 288

Devaroe Lawrence is now at 303

Dontavious Russell is up to 308

Not that he's played or in the rotation, but Prince Tonagaho-ho Wanogado has put on 32 pounds since coming to AU.  Now at 282.

A couple of note that dropped some.  Jovon Robinson is down from 230 to 219 and Marlon Davidson has dropped 8 since the spring to 273.

I'm sure some of that weight will be dropped when Fall camp begins, but those are some pretty significant changes and now, just about everyone on the interior of the D-line will be 300 plus.

The two that stand out to me are Jovon and Carry On.  When Roc left, I gave a big "Oh shit" because my thinking is if Jovon goes down, no way Kerryon can be getting 20+ carries between the tackles at 195 and slightly built.  Over 210 makes me feel better.  On the other hand, JRob (His close friends call him JRob) looked like a much better runner than Barber in following his blocking and finding the crease, especially on the stretch play they ran for him.  But he still looked a little slow.  Getting down under 220 might help him break a few.

The unofficial start to the football season was Monday, with SEC Media Days getting underway at The Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover. That means one thing: Fall camp is right around the corner for Auburn and the rest of the league.

With that in mind, here's a breakdown of Auburn's updated football roster.

The Tigers added nine freshmen this summer, with two more expected to arrive later this month.

Wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers (6-2, 204) will wear No. 3, while Eli Stove (6-0, 177) will wear No. 12 and Marquis McClain (6-2, 208) will wear No. 17.  Quarterback Woody Barrett (6-2, 238) will wear No. 1, while offensive tackle Prince Michael Sammons (6-7, 289) will wear No. 72.

The prize of Auburn's recruiting class, Derrick Brown (6-5, 330) will wear No. 5 this fall, while defensive backs Jayvaughn Myers (6-1, 179) and Daniel Thomas (5-11, 192) will wear Nos. 18 and 24, respectively.

The newest member of Auburn's 2016 class, former Baylor signee Kam Martin (5-10, 177) does not yet have a number, according to Auburn's official roster.

Of the players returning from this spring, the Tigers added a combined 509 pounds. Newly converted offensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho had the largest gain in weight, adding 32 pounds this offseason. He is now listed at 282. Offensive tackle Darius James lost the most weight this summer, dropping 12 pounds to come in at 320 pounds.

Here's a look at Auburn's updated roster with adjusted weights for players, number changes and information for the incoming freshmen who joined the fold this summer.
