If only they would trade him to the Camthers...

Him, Benjamin & Olsen with Cam ...wouldn't be fair to the defenses.

Always loved watching him play and have no problem with his retirement.  Hate to see him go and would love to see him in Charlotte, but so long and thanks for all the highlights, CJ.

Zak lee.

His body his life. I'm sure he wants to be able to walk without a cane and pain killers at 40. Good for him.

I actually respect him more for walking away. Smart guy.

Well...he is walking with over $100M in contract money in his pocket.  That's got to make the decision a bit easier.

Yeah, but with Bernie's new tax plan, is that really all that much?

Funny. You say over 100 million. Its actually like 115 million. With a number that big, we describe 15 million as "a little over".

I didn't know the precise number.  I only knew that he got into the league before they crammed down the initial contracts, so he got a huge rookie contract...unlike Cam.

It's almost a similar situation as when Barry Sanders retired. I wonder how the Detroit Lions fans feel when they look back and realise that their team has run off two players that are among the best in NFL history.

From a piece by Adam Schefter.  Looks like he's known what he wanted to do for a while.  Going out on his own terms.

Detroit Lions star receiver Calvin Johnson told his family and a close circle of friends before the past season that 2015-16 would be his final season in the NFL. He delivered the same message to coach Jim Caldwell the day after the regular season ended, sources told ESPN.

If he ever gets thirsty he can just turn himself into a drink machine.

Not really similar at all. Barry Sanfers was already a hall of fame player.

CJ will not be in the HOF!

That's nice. Where does he rank among HOF receivers?

By your standards, Cadillac should be there...but at least his shoes are.

If he stays retired, the numbers he has put up are right there with all the HoF receivers. He ranks in the top 20 of the greatest WRs in the history of the NFL...by the people that do the ranking sort of things.

Again, he will be in the HoF. The Detroit Lions retired two of the top tier players at their position with some years left on their treads, basically because they're hot garbage.

David Irons learned in 2005 that good receivers need to be checked at the line of scrimmage. This lesson was taught by Megatron himself.
