Gonna keep Rocker on staff. Just damn.
Barring any last-minute snags in negotiations, Georgia is expected to hire Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart as its new head coach.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the news Tuesday night.
Smart played for Georgia from 1995-98 and served as a team captain as a senior. He spent 11 of the last 12 years as an assistant for coach Nick Saban, first at LSU (defensive backs, 2004) and then with the Miami Dolphins (safeties, 2006).
He coached Georgia’s running backs in ’05, followed Saban to Tuscaloosa in 2007 and became defensive coordinator in ’09. The Tide have won three national championships with Smart in that position.
According to the AJC, Georgia will not make an official announcement until after the SEC championship game on Saturday. The timing is interesting, as Alabama should make the College Football Playoff by beating Florida.
Also, the AJC is reporting that only defensive line coach Tracy Rocker will remain on staff. Defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who worked as a staff member and then an assistant on Smart’s defense at Alabama from 2007-12, will not remain on staff, the paper is reporting.
He may re-join Saban in Tuscaloosa as the new Tide defensive coordinator.

Well.....Jacobs hasn't got around to offering him yet. He's been busy.
-
I hope that Saban gets Muschamp back. That would be pretty awesome. Supposedly, according to message board chatter, Smart is going to try for Muschamp.
-
Is it just me or are any of saban's defensive assistants any good out from under the tiny shadow? Coach Muschamp was under DC Wayne Hall's shadow as a GA...then saban's little shadow for a few years, then Coach Tuberville's for a couple of years.

I hope Saban dies from choking on a syphilis infected goat penis. That would be pretty awesome.

I think Will goes to USCe

I hope saban catches Tiffin fucking his wife and commits suicide.

Seeing as how the 3-4 is a staple up there now, that would be weird since WM is pretty dead set on a 4 man front these days. Very different. I know Pruitt and both Smart have run multiple (3-4 and 4-3) in the past but not WM. Not that I know of. It could happen but it would just be somewhat strange.

Why in the world would Muschamp make a lateral move to that piece of shit town and fan base? Is Georgia going to pony up more than $1.6 large for a different DC? Last I checked, defense wasn't the leg-humpers problem.

Unless you have definitive proof I will assume Jacobs has nothing to do but devise ways to keep Malzahn from scoring more than one TD per game.
There's your DC.

Exactly. If Muschamp goes anywhere it will be to take a Head job.

Only place we might lose Muschamp is South Carolina.

Columbia Regional Airport:
BOOOOOOO...we need a leader, not a loser.
-
I keep hearing Smart is taking the strength corch with him. Transporting all those PED's across State lines is a huge risk.

I know it happens EVERY DAMN YEAR, but I wonder if this will finally set Alabama back a little bit.
Especially if Kiffin takes a job somewhere.
New DC. New OC. And new SC.
The strength and conditioning coach is one of the most important figures in the program. He gets the most face time and coaching time with the players. Cochran is a douche, but he's good at what he does.
So maybe...MAYBE they lose two regular season games next year?

I really wish they would hire Richt. Spurrier did a good job of building a rivalry between the two and that would help it carry on and add a big twist to it.

Well hell, I'd go anywhere for that. :gig:

I think Richt ends up in Miami.

Me too. Didn't he coach there in his younger years?

We stand to miss out on Rocker while losing T-Rob too.

The motorhome guy is having an affair with Saban's wife?

Played QB. Not sure if he stuck around to coach any.

Backed up Jim Kelly and played with Kosar.

You omitted the part that he is among the finest of men to ever matriculate at that university

It would be a hell of a hire for them IMO.

From a standpoint of personnel, yes it's 3-4. As is Alabama's. But you never see them in 3 man fronts except in certain dime coverages. It's all just a matter of over/under fronts and mixed technique. I think that anyone that would fit in any 3 of those schemes would fit in all.

Smart loves multiple. He is a lot more flexible than WM in that regard.
