Title: Thoughts - Still Feeling the Thanksgiving Vibes
Post by: Townhallsavoy on November 29, 2015, 08:48:03 AM
First the bad:

- As usual, where did Jovon Robinson go? I just don't get it. NO ONE can run on Alabama...except Jovon Robinson. So let's not give him the ball in the 2nd half.

- I sincerely believe if the defense had tackled Coker before his 14 yard scramble to set up 4th and 1 and then tackled Coker before he could lob a hail mary for a touchdown that Auburn would have won the game.

- The embarrassing actions of Will Muschamp on the sideline. Sorry, I know it was well-deserved, but he is not the head coach. Head coaches can cuss and chew out refs. Not assistants. He was completely out of line ESPECIALLY when he decided to continue jawing at the guy and then go onto the field like he was going to fight.

- Also embarrassing was our radio announcers. I know they're supposed to be homers, and that's fine. But bitching about the SEC offices being in Birmingham and lying about penalty yards in the history of the Iron Bowl makes Auburn look bad. Get out of here with that shit.

The Good

- So JJ sucks, but he didn't give the game away. He played his ass off, unscared, unintimidated and did all he could possibly do to help us compete.

- The players as a whole gave it their all. Could have easily given up at some point, and they fought all the way til the end. Really made me proud. At halftime I told my wife that I didn't care what happened in the 2nd half; I would be proud of this game no matter what.

- The defense has really improved. Will Muschamp was worth the cost, and I really hope he stays for next season.

The Shit

- Derrick Henry is a beast. I thought he was one of the more overrated players in SEC history a few weeks ago, but the guy has put that shitty offense on his back and carried them to the championship game. He somehow ALWAYS falls forward, and his height gets him an extra two-three yards every time. He's near the SEC rushing record and has done it on about 60 less carries. I think he'll win the Heisman. He may deserve it, though I personally believe that Deshaun Watson is the more dynamic, important player.

- Jovon Robinson not getting carries in the 2nd half. I think Robinson should get 45 carries as well. Why the fuck not? He has explosive acceleration and could easily have averaged 5.5 yards a carry yesterday. Maybe that doesn't win us the game, but Jesus Christ the guy has more ability to run the football than most in the entire NCAA.

- One touchdown. That's what Gus Malzahn's vaunted offense has gotten us in our last four SEC games. One touchdown each. I forgive it against Alabama. I do not forgive it in the others.

- I hope Sean White comes back healthy for the bowl game and lights it up. But honestly, I'm not expecting him to. Our quarterback development is not at an SEC level. I know many were impressed by White, but I wasn't. Not really. He's better than Jeremy Johnson. That's not saying much. He needs to put on a show against a good opponent.

Here's to next season. I guess.

EDIT - I want to add that I don't think yesterday was a bad loss. We've had a lot of bad losses over the past 7 seasons. But when I say that I miss Tuberville, I mean that I miss being competitive even when we lose. Seems like we've looked like limp dicks in most of our losses, even if the score is kinda close. We played them well and played them hard, and I wasn't mad at all when the game was over.

Agree with all of this. Though I will add that the main reason I think Jovon got so little carries is because our O-line was actually forcing bama to bring their safties up. When that happens you have to throw the ball and the plays we're there. First time all year when their front 7 wasn't able to completely shutdown the other teams run game. Kudos to our O-line. Them boys played like men.

Couldn't disagree more. The obvious holding on Carl Lawson was flat out ridiculous. Will went to bat for his guys, dropped a F bomb, and gets flagged 15 yards. Saban actually bumps an official and get a sideline warning. FUCK Tom Ritter with Charlie Sheen's dick.

Agree with with our guys 100%. Would fucking love to see officials become national and not regional. I mean the Head of officials in the SEC is a fucking gump for god sakes. Btw, its no coincidence everytime the little one bitches about something the SEC officials try to pass a rule to pacify his ass.

Agree to an extent. JJ is a fine Auburn man and he did play his ass off. Still he can't throw for shit and rushed several throws. I.e. he played scared a bit. Make no mistake, if we had a half competent QB last night, we win that game. Our receivers we're running free.

Agree with all of this though I wasn't looking for a moral victory after halftime. I was expecting to win the game.

Honestly our offense was fucked from the opening game when JJ got the yips. Is that on Gus? Absolutely. However he's not the first HC to have a QB just lose it between the ears when the lights come on. [/quote]

Pretty sure Sean actually ranks 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in Auburn history in passing yards for a freshman QB. All 3 of those performances we're against SEC schools. If that kid would've have gotten the same kind of help from the defense that we've seen the last few weeks and had Jovon to hand off to in the backfield, we would be no worse than 9-3 right now. Likely even better.

Ummm, no. Totally disagree here.

Otherwise pretty spot on, although I still don't think Henry is that great. Their OL may be the best in the country.

Henry is a great back and is the first bammer that actually deserves to win the Heisman.
That being said, he almost always makes it 5 yards downfield before he gets touched.

Muschamp may have gone overboard, but I was damn glad to see it.  Lawson wasn't the only one being held on that play.  He was just held the worst.  It gets so damn old seeing their OL consistently get away with WWE style takedowns and holds all over the field with no call.  Damn.  Old.  He had the quote of the night after the play was over though...they showed it on the jumbotron at the perfect time too..."I just want a fair game!"  Too bad you will never see one with the tahd involved.

I'm not unhappy with the outcome of the game. It's apparent that JJ is not the QB of the future for Auburn (he'll transfer after the season)

Oh my God.

I did not know until I saw a replay a few seconds ago that the caveman Cro Magnon motherfucker scored his only touchdown with less than 30 seconds remaining, in a game they were up by nine and it was over.  What a classless bunch of cock smoking douche bags.  Fuck them.

I hope the motherfucker breaks both his legs against Florida.   I hope Jake Coker's acne pods explode bathing his face in goo which renders him blind for six months.  Fuck them all.  Forever.

Agree Henry is the best of the Saban era. Their offensive line is good and the defenses that don't wilt right away or by halftime are usually overwhelmed  by the middle of the third quarter. Their line just seem to always have that extra gear. We had it too with Tre Mason.

Not unhappy.

Agree JJ ain't the guy but I doubt White is either. And for some strange reason Malzahn is no longer able to groom a conventional QB as Todd and the Tulsa guys even though he claims we are a RUN, PLAY ACTION TEAM.

We just go all dumbass with the bubble screens and reverses without a read option QB to move the chains, add pace and to lessen the number of times those shit plays get called.

I watched the Third's JUCO video. His team didn't run a read option play but then neither did Marshall's team. Same build, same elusiveness, quicker release I think but less on the long ball. Nick got banged up probably more than we know and was a gutty performer. The chances this guy can stay even that healthy are slim, so we probably need an extra to run it similarly so as to not throw us into another offensive
tailspin.

Let's hope the departure of Richt will turn a couple of UGA's biguns our way along with Coach Rocker.

Thoughts.

I have NEVER....EVER...seen so many dropped passes right in a receiver's hands in any season, by any team, period!!!  Yes, JJ missed several.  But DAMN, MELVIN!!!!

Execute 3-4 plays last night.  We beat that team no questions asked. Have you ever seen a team drop more passes?  How many in the Arkansas game alone?  10?  I counted 5 last night.  Mind numbingly bad.  And the "miracle" tip..catch by Jason Smith was fucking horrible on his part.  Catch the damn ball and run.  Isn't that what you practice every single day to do?  Well....is it?  Hmmmm...

Now, the outside factor. Refs.  We get it to 19-13.  A stop and the momentum is 100% ours.  Horrible...horrible call in the first place. Then a horrible non-call.  Lawson got ass raped!!!  And then the refs throw a flag because of their own incompetence.  If you were there, you know that 80K people were pissed...and stayed pissed....and justifiably so.  THAT was the game.

I've been calm all season.  I lost it in the 4th quarter last night. That was hard to swallow from an execution standpoint and a bend over and take it standpoint.  Here's what I left the stadium thinking.  If Bama gets matched up with Oklahoma.  They lose by 21 or more.  Even tOSU just skull fucks that bunch.  Michigan State, if their QB is back...will make Saban their bitch.

Come on now K. You feel that way just because, not because of that TD play. It's 4th and 1 late in the game. You run the ball, convert the 1st down and kill the clock. You don't kick the meaningless FG and go back on defense. You get the 1st and end the game in victory formation. It's not like they had a double reverse pass back to eligible lineman who was snuck into the formation as a receiver in the endzone.

They ran a stretch play that Auburn could have had tackled at the LOS with better pursuit angle. Nothing classless about the last TD.  If you gonna be pissed, find something that actually makes sense.

No your coach and his running back wanted that TD streak intact, the Bama TD Record, the spread covered, and to try and impress that fucking joke of a committee since the game up to that point looked somewhat sketchy in most eyes.

He had 241 yards of offense already.  30 more yards and a TD didn't change anything.

Nah. Henry is it. He didn't get 45 carries because he just needed 270 yards rushing. He got it because Bama is 1 deep at running back. Injuries are part of the game. That's why, with only 60 yards rushing, he didn't play but 1 1/2 quarters against South Carolina A&T for the deaf and bling last week. A busted knee in that game running for stats would have pissed me off.  4th quarter of the iron bowl is a different matter totally.

I honestly haven't watched much of Alabama this year until the Iron Bowl. Saw a good bit of the first half of the Georgia game and the same with the A&M game. Looked like the Henry show in both.  I know 46 carries is not the norm, but do they rely on him as much as they did Saturday?  Coker made some plays but didn't seem real sharp to me.  Did they just say, "This is what's working so let's ride it out with DH"?

Yes. The offense is meh at best. Since Drake broke his arm, it's Henry, freshman, freshman.  I get that nobody wants to see that 30 yard touchdown run with :30 seconds left in the game.  But I don't want to see a blocked FG return for a touchdown to make it a one possession game. Especially after seeing that tipped fucking pass for a TD earlier in the game.

Run the ball, get the first down, kill the clock and get the fuck out of there. If Henry gets tackled after picking up the first down, they would taken knees to end it.

Not only that but it was the replay on BSPN and the adage that he completely ran over us. Which while he did get yards wasn't true.  I actually thought we did a damn fine job of keeping him under wraps.  That crap touchdown probably won him the fucking Heisman.

Agree on what others said about JJ, he did play scared through out the game.  I kept trying to figure out how Proactiv could scramble for 20 yards all while keeping his eyes down field, and our 6-4 240lb QB would go Fetal Mosely.

Was also disappointed with the lack of aggressive playcalling in the game.  We were 6-5 who the fuck cares if we score a field goal, go balls out.

It kept his streak intact. It let him have the Bama TD record IN the Iron Bowl. It made the win look more convincing than it was. And was about the closest thing there was to him having a "Heisman Moment".

Yeah, it was on purpose....c'mon man.

Mark Richt would have kneeled on that shit long before that. Saban wanted that TD, no doubt.

If they kneeled "long before that", the ball would have went to AU on downs with at least a minute on the clock.  Malzahn took a timeout with over 2 minutes left.  Saban certainly isn't going to kick a field goal in that situation, not after Kick 6.  You go for it, get the 1st down, and THEN kneel it.  In the last 3 possessions, Alabama passed one time.  Pretty obvious they were trying to kill the clock.

Bullshit again. Tell me more about that missed passed which stops the clock, and how the playclock was exactly the time remaining in the game. Ill hang up and lissen. Saban wanted it. Henry wanted it. At the minimum Henry could have slid after picking up the first down or went out of bounds. They wanted the TD....not sure why this is so hard to comprehend.

When the ball was snapped on the last play, the play clock was at :14 and game clock was at :33.  And fuck sliding.  You really think if it were Malzahn, he would have told his back to slide just short of the goal line in that situation?  No, didn't think so.

Everyone knew Henry was getting the ball.  For that matter, it was a run up the middle but the DL got penetration and he had to bounce outside.  AU had 9 guys in the box, and 4 of them whiffed on tackling him.

Play clock was not the same. Game clock wasn't running. It was either first down or turn the ball over.  Go back and watch the game. You letting your version of how you think it went cloud the actual facts to strenghten your argument.

Malzhan doesn't burn his last timeout to keep Bama from killing the clock without needing the first down, Henry finishes with just 240 yards rushing.

Run was the right call there. If we didn't want him to score, we should have tackled him. Hell he was in slo-motion at that time!

If we didn't want him to score, we should have caught one of the four dropped passes on the previous possession.

He speaks for 67% or 342/450ths of us.

So JJ ruined the defense, too.  Thanks, dickhead.

As bad as JJ was, he only had 10 fewer yards passing than that Heisman Contender Jacob Coker.

There is that.

But the TD was wanted. The Saban/Henry dick lickers are going to excuse it away with any reasoning possible.

Seriously. A run up the middle on 4th and 1 from the 24 fucking yard line with :33 seconds left in the game was a designed play called because big bad Saban wanted a Henry TD.

Jesus Christ. This rivalry really does need to end. It's making people who are normally intelligent lose their shit.
