Did Auburn steal its War Eagle battle cry from Georgia?

Here's the first two paragraphs:

Quote
When it comes to explaining the origins of "War Eagle" as Auburn's signature battle cry, it seems fans rarely go beyond the same handful of theories they've spent years choosing whether to believe.

Some prefer the dramatic (and extremely made-up) tale of a Civil War veteran and his beloved eagle watching the first-ever Auburn-Georgia game in 1892, while others are drawn to the comparatively dull story of a Carlisle player named Hawkeagle (not Bald Eagle, as it's often told) who might have influenced a play call that might have sparked a century-long tradition.

The rest of the article is long and not worth reading.

Actually, the rest is worth reading. The conclusion is, no they didn't.

And it is the most substantiated origin story of how War Eagle came to be than any other I've heard. This appears to settle it once and for all with factual evidence.

I'll agree the headline was sensationalist bullshit though.

I want to know the real story behind why we call ourselves Tigers.  I've heard we stolt the name from LSU.

I see no reason to use any type of lubrication whatsoever.
