Kenny Stabler just passed away.
Cause of death?
-
I don't know. I'm not even sure that he's dead now. The turdtown news retracted their story saying it's unconfirmed.
A Biloxi TV station is saying that his club is confirming that he died in Gulfport.
They're now saying his ex-wife and grandson have both confirmed that he died from prostate cancer.
Pick one.

The man was a character.

Met him at Sandestin. Ironically, at a wine festival where he was promoting his new line of wines. Talked to him briefly. A few months after AU had won the MNC in 2010. Had my AU cap on and he was very complimentary of Auburn and the season they had.
When he started as the color guy for Bama, I hated his voice. Grew on me when I realized he told it like it was. No holds barred. Not just blatant Bama homerism. One night, Northern Illinois came in and manhandled them at the Crapstoned. Heard him rip his team a new one about getting their shit pushed in needing to man up. I can respect that.
Hate him if you want to. The man had a killer career at the highest levels of foosballz. Partied his ass off. Came up in a different era than just about everyone on this board.

They will stand him up in a glass case next to bear. Both of them will be preserved for ages due to pickling.

Met him at Innissfree in Tuscaloosa one late night. Auburn had an away game and we decided to visit our buddies over in TTown, as we frequently would in Fall. Nice guy. Drunk. But a nice guy.
-
I found humor in his homeristic color commentary. Having watched archival footage of him playing, I can see why the Raiders and Bama fans adored him. The man was gamer and fighter.

The best days of my life and the NFL were watching those Raider- Steeler battles...better than all of the overhyped Super Bowls neither team was in.

I was a huge Raiders fan back then. My little peewee team was named Raiders, so I started watching the real Raiders. The connection between him and Casper was awesome.

THIS
Bammer aside, dude could ball. I respected him for that. Fuck Namath. Stabler was twice the gamer he was.
-
I'm not ashamed to admit that I always liked Stabler. I don't remember his college days because I'm not as old as you practically petrified people. But I vaguely remember his NFL days.
Gamer, maverick, whatever. Dude could ball. He was a winner.
Had his share of the issues off the field but by all accounts I've heard, he was a nice guy.
What I really liked best was his commentary. I was not an avid listener when he was on the Tahd network but I thought he did an excellent job. He called it like he saw it and that likely didn't always sit well with the powers dat be. He was the dude in real life.

Latest news out is that he had Stage 3 CTE.
