Title: Kayak And A Cane Pole
Post by: Snaggletiger on July 08, 2015, 11:39:12 AM
Okay, maybe a little bit stronger pole. This 500-600 pounds of fish.  Caught at Sanibel Island, Florida.  Goliath Grouper is a protected species so how would you like a 3 hour fight in a kayak...and then cut the line?

I saltwater fish in my kayak, I have to say I'm not generally equipped to bring in a Goliath but having to let otherwise awesome fish go because of the regs is par for the course.

I don't have a pan big enough for him anyway so I may as well cut the line.

I can deal with a good fight with one out of season and letting it go.  Mini and I went early in June and amberjack were kicking our tails. Unfortunately, they had gone out June 1st.  But a 3 hour fight?

That's a big one alright but, way down yonder in Port St Joe, there's a bar called Toucan's where I've witnessed more than one buddy hook a goliath or two of their own that would give this guy a run for his money. They wouldn't be as happy about it being on YouTube though.

A. To me its the same thing as fishing and pulling up a blue runner or a bonita, useless fish that you can't keep.  However, I would rather catch and fight something then be out there catching nothing.

B. With regards to the 3 hour fight and having to let it go.  First, not many people have caught a goliath grouper much less on a kayak so that is impressive and IMO worth the 3 hours.  Second, you act like he knew what he had on for the 3 hours.

If I fight it for 3 hours, I want to keep it.  And I'll punch you in the forehead.

Well, you have to subdue them somehow.

from teh huffingtonpostessesdot I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!!  I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others.  I like male genatalia in and around my mouth.

This is truly a David vs. Goliath battle.

Cape Coral resident Jon Black reeled in a massive, 552-pound goliath grouper last week that was nearly as big as Black's kayak.

As seen in the video above, Black's reaction to seeing the fish for the first time is priceless. When the fish makes a final slap to break free and snaps Black's pole, Black screams with a mixture of excitement, glee and fear.

"I thought it was going to kill me," he says in the video.

Black caught the grouper off the Sanibel Causeway in Florida while on a chartered fishing trip with Chew On This, which sends customers out in search of the famous goliath grouper fish.

As is required by Florida law, Black released the grouper. But before that, he measured it, finding it to be about 83 inches (almost 7 feet) long with a 73-inch (6 feet) girth. He used that information to estimate the fish's weight to be roughly 552 pounds, according to GrindTV.

"I can tell when he bit it was a big one," Black told NBC2 News, adding, "It was unreal to see him come up and the kayak made it even a wild ride like that."

While the goliath grouper that Black caught seems huge, the fish can get up to 800 pounds and 8 feet long. They have three to five rows of teeth in their mouths and have been known to -- rather unsuccessfully -- stalk swimming humans, making for some pretty terrifying close encounters.

People catch these Jewfish all of the time. Its not usually filmed and from a kayak, though. They end up using a super stiff rod and wire line. The fish just tires out and rolls over.

You can't call 'em that anymore, man.
