Quote
Jason Campbell, who led Auburn to an undefeated season in 2004, is reportedly ready to call it a career after 10 years in the NFL.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Campbell's decision is not yet official and he may be delaying it in case a team decides they want another veteran in training camp.

Campbell, 33, spent last season with the Bengals as Andy Dalton's backup. A first-round draft pick of the Redskins in 2005, he started all 16 games in Washington in 2008 and 2009 and also spent time as a starter in Chicago, Oakland and Cleveland, where he was 1-7 as a starter in 2013. He threw for 16,771 yards in his career with 87 touchdowns and 60 interceptions.

Always liked JC17. Hope he does well in the next phase. He should be a coach. He's run every offense known to man.

Great representative of the school and not his fault that his career wasn't more successful.  Hell, he went about 15 years without ever having the same OC two years in a row.

True words.

I hate the expression but he never really got a fair shake from his Freshmen year on through the NFL....from multiple OCs and offenses, to crappy teams. Dude caught some pure bad luck. Great guy. Wish the best for him.

By his senior year, he was as complete a QB as we've ever had at AU.

At 33, his career is more successful than mine will at 83. Dude's a multi-millionaire and, if he so desires, he can spend the rest of his days laying on sun-kissed beaches being poured mixed drinks by nekkid Taiwanese housemaids.

I know most of you jet setters call that a Tuesday but back where I'm from, we call that the very opposite of bad luck.

One thing that is overlooked and underappreciated is that he was the last white QB at AU. Before Campbell, you have to go all the way back to Jimmy Sidle to find a cracker.

i completely agree with Campbell being a stand-up Auburn athlete...a fine representative of the university. a decent college career only after it finally clicked in 2004...along side a stellar supporting cast. i like Jason Campbell...and proud to claim him as an Auburn athlete.

but to say his career, more specifically, at the NFL level falls short on the routines of playing for shitty teams, terrible organizations, lack of consistency and whatever it may be is ludicrous.  at the end of the day he was an average league QB, if that.

sure i wanted him to be successful in the NFL.  heck I even drafted him for my Fantasy Football team.

anyhoo...best of luck in retirement.

Not many things you say are all that funny. Occasionally, I snicker.

Damn it boy, hit the shift key every once in a while.

Otherwise, I agree.

Yeah, but y'all sword fight with each other.

I'll admit that if that's an obscure movie quote, you can go ahead and deduct 10.  Now having said that, WT and I never cross swords.  We have accidently touched tips a couple of times but that doesn't really count.

The teams/organizations may not be THE reason but it sure as hell didn't help. Lot of the frustration looking back at Campbell is that he played almost his entire career behind the 8 ball because of those shitty situations.

Tis true. Any time he started getting good, something stupid happened. I thought he was about to bring it in Oakland. Them bam, hurt, gone. He would have been considered a damn good qb if he had been on a team like Dilfer was.
