Travaris Robinson's coaching style is as much show as it is tell.
Watch Robinson in practice, and he spends most of his teaching time in motion, setting up in the half-turn Will Muschamp coaches his secondary to play, flipping his hips, taking angles, using his own body as the model for what he wants from his players.
If equipment manager Dana Marquez gave Robinson a helmet and pads, the former Auburn defensive back might be tempted to suit up and play a little bit.
"It's been great," Tigers safety Johnathan "Rudy" Ford said. "He goes over fundamentals, and he's really in depth, a technique freak."
Robinson, who graduated from Auburn in 2002 after an All-SEC campaign at cornerback for the Tigers, isn't that far removed from his playing days.
And he still has the frame, athleticism and energy to mimic what he wants from his players. Even during stretching, Robinson's all over the place, carrying on conversations with three players at once.
"He's got like one of them ADD-type personalities," Ford said, referring to Robinson's nonstop motion on the practice field.
Robinson's ability as a recruiter paid off in a big way during Auburn's push to National Signing Day, where he helped the Tigers land four defensive backs in the final month of the recruiting cycle. Now, his task is to reteach and rebuild an Auburn secondary that allowed SEC quarterbacks to pile up a 140.39 rating and gave up 12 touchdown passes in the month of November.
Early in spring practices, Will Muschamp has been looking for high effort out of his new defense.
All the secondary has to do is try to match the personality of its cornerbacks coach, who has worked for Muschamp for four years.
"They've been together a while, so they're the same people," Tigers cornerback Jonathan Jones said. "They're on the same page. Both intense and expect a lot from us."

Never thought I'd have a physical reaction to the words, "fundamentals" and "technique freak." But that is the most excitement I've felt in weeks.....

I can't help but think the AU defense will be much much better this coming season. Its gonna be so fulfilling to see these guys finally get back to some sort of resemblance of the old AU defenses.

Well if you've seen Dallas. And you've seen his wife....it would make sense why he's so thrilled about the situation. He's a very proud out kicker of coverage.

Werd, She must have lost a bet the night we met, I am waiting for it to be paid in full and she'll be moving on.
