Rece Davis to replace Chris Fowler on ESPN’s College GameDay

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/rece-davis-to-replace-chris-fowler-on-gameday/ (http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/rece-davis-to-replace-chris-fowler-on-gameday/)

Quote
Chris Fowler, the host of ESPN’s College GameDay since 1990, will give way to Rece Davis starting in 2015.

According to a report from James Andrew Miller on Thursday evening, co-author of ESPN tell-all book “Those Guys Have All The Fun,” the four-letter network had to make the move in order to retain Davis.

Less than one year ago, Fowler re-signed with ESPN through 2023. He replaced Brent Musburger on Saturday Night Football in 2014. Both Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit worked together on GameDay every Saturday morning and again in the broadcast booth Saturday night, flying to a second city together if necessary.

Fowler and Davis are ESPN’s marquee faces when it comes to college sports, and Fowler’s re-signing led to rampant speculation about the fate of Davis at the network. But according to Miller, it appears ESPN has reached some sort of agreement, at least verbally, with Davis to retain him as well.

Davis has hosted the basketball version of GameDay since its inception in 2005. He’s got the chops to fill what’s probably the most prominent position in college sports broadcasting, but it will be odd watching the show on Saturdays without Fowler for the first time in 25 years.

Analyst Lee Corso, the only original cast member of the show after its debut in 1987, has publicly battled the effects of a stroke he suffered in 2009. Corso will be 80 years old before the 2015 college football season. Fowler, Herbstreit and Corso have done the show together since 1996, but it may not be long before there are two new faces alongside Herbstreit.

As of 7:15 p.m. ET on Wednesday, ESPN had yet to release anything official on the move, which is sure to send shockwaves throughout the college football broadcasting world.

Can't they just prop up Bahr Brunt next to Corso?

Many may disagree with me here, but I LOVE Gameday.  And I've always liked Fowler.  I hate to see him go.  Especially if Rece Davis is replacing him.

Chris Fowler is a preening schmoe but could be passable at times.  Rece Davis is a Bammer-lovng shill. Unlike 89.789% of that fanbase, he actually went to school there. Davis goes out of his way to take shots at Auburn.

Don't watch the show, so I don't give two fucks who they have.

I disagree - I like Rece.  I have never found him to be a bammer bobo honker.  I have never even heard him mention being a bammer alum - didn't know that until someone, maybe here, pointed it out - and I have never noticed an obvious bias in his commentary.

I like his enthusiasm when he calls games - he gets so excited and that is appealing to me.  I like it when announcers get all into the game, loving the big plays on both sides.  He seems to genuinely love college football in general, regardless of his original allegiance.  Maybe some of y'all are hearing what you want to hear because you know he's originally a turd, but I just don't hear it.

To each his own.  I don't watch GameDay anymore because I just can't stand it, but he certainly won't hurt it.  I just hope they have both Chris Fowler and Rece Davis calling games - I really do like them both.

88.7% of this^^^

There's only one ESPN regular (That calls/analyzes college foosballz) that I refuse to listen to.  Change the channel each and every time he comes on.  And that's:

 :holtz:

First, he has no business on air due to the fact that no one can understand that senile, mush mouth old fool.  Second, I stopped years ago when he accused Auburn of cheating in the Cam scandal and slammed an AU helmet on the floor.  That's some straight up hatred and bias right there and he's dead to me.

As for the rest of them, Game Day etc.  Love it.  Yes, Auburn has been treated unfairly over the years in ESPN's reporting.  And for that, they can lick my anal cavity. But the overall college football coverage and Game Days are tradition to me.  It stays on on Saturday mornings if I'm not in Auburn.

Gotta agree with what the two said above me.  Snaggle Wench

Honestly, it surprising cause Fowler has been there so long, but I kind of view them as interchangeable.

And I don't like Rece for the reasons you do like him.  His enthusiasm seems forced like he knows it's his job to have that persona while on the air.  Fowler, Herbstreit, Danielson (who is a Bama-honking homer) - those guys seem more genuine to me.

I know I'm waayyy in the minority here.  And yes, it's always about race with me.  But, I honestly don't mind Danielson. I think he knows what he's talking about and he's really never hesitated to be critical of anyone.  The Bama bobo honking I hear from him comes from his weekly appearances on PF's show during the season.  And that's not his fault because the only thing that comes out of Paul's mouth is "Just how great was that game between Bama and....?"  "Doesn't Nick Saban continue to amaze you?"  "What do you see for Bama...?"

When can they finally get rid of Corso? What value does he bring besides clowning around for 2 minutes at the end of each gameday with a mascot head on..

Get rid of him...?

Corso has been dead for the last 12 years, Herbstreit controls him via "Weekend at Bernie's" style shoelaces.

Seriously though its a pretty elaborate pully system they have developed, can you not see the strings?

I say there is no Bama honk in Danielson unless a Bama honk is trying to pry Bama praise out of him. He's just as prone to praise Auburn and Gus Malzahn when questioned under the same circumstances.

I agree with your agreeance. Like I said, a ton of people have heard him weekly on Finebaum and the bottom line is PF is going to conduct 80% of the interview asking him to tell the world how great Bama and Nick Saban are.

I am with the Caring Counselor.  Danielson for the most part is a good color man - other than when he is Captain Obvious (does that for the uneducated viewers, I guess, but I find it annoying).

Verne, on the other hand, needs to be beaten with a shovel and buried.

Vern- he gets names and numbers wrong. Constantly. And he basically has stayed way past his prime. He's not a good college ball guy. Ok in golf.

Gary- I hate to agree with the ball-less one but I think he brings good analysis and he does his homework. He knows a lot about the game. He gets on my nerves sometimes. But he knows a lot about the game.

Afraid that's spot on.  Vern is just past his prime.  Hate that because as much as we bust on him for screwing things up, he's been the voice of big time Saturday afternoon football for years.  You know it's a prime time match up when you hear that music and a game called by Vern and Gary. Chills.  I grew up on some that most of you never heard of.  But love him or hate him, Keith Jackson was the man.  I can't count the number of classic match ups that man called.  And it was at a time when you got 3-4 college football games on a weekend...if that.  He WAS the voice of college football.  Fum-BUUUULLL.
