Some quotes with my commentary
"I had a conversation with coach (Gus) Malzahn," said Steve Shaw, the SEC's coordinator of officials. "They sent in some plays this week as is routine, as they always do, and we communicated back and forth on that."
- "Auburn complains all the time. But they best be quiet or I'll have my referees start calling holding every time they run that hurry up crap. Roll Tide."
"There are some tight plays," Shaw said. "There are some tough plays. When you're looking at the number of plays that we have -- and we've got great athletes and these guys make some phenemonal plays -- there are some tight ones. There are some on certain days, boy, you hate to be that official standing in those shoes there, but we do evaluate the judgement component as opposed to the hard rule component. And the officials get feedback on that."
- "Look, a lot of these guys are trying to keep the gamblers happy and also they get caught up when Amari Cooper makes awesome plays. So some Aubarn WR thinks he got roughed up. Ehh? Does it really matter? Auburn was already down for 457 at that point."
"I am very direct and straight up with the coaches," Shaw said. "If we get it right, I tell them and I tell them why. If we did miss it, I'll tell them why as well. We've gotten good feedback from the coaches on that process. Not that they like everything that I say, but it helps them and it's been a value and benefit to them to help coach their teams and clean up issues that they may have."
-
"I listened to Gus, told him we'd look at it. Then hung up and laughed my ass off. Yeah, right, Harry Potter. Roll Tide."
-
The Coates call and JJ's interference were BS. Both could have changed the momentum of the game. But at the same time, we screwed ourselves with the number of times we got in the red zone and did squat with it. Field goals don't cut it against that team.
I have to say though, I thought our DB's played pretty damn good overall. Look, Dak and that group of receivers, especially 7'4" Ray'Onion, are gonna' get theirs. But we had what...2 or 3 interceptions and a lot of passes broken up and other times where passes were completed in tight coverage. We're not the Seahawks but this backfield is definitely am improvement over recent years.

Making no excuses. We got beat. It happens.
But the Shaw's remarks are curious to me. Maybe I'm looking to hard for something. Now where's my tinfoil hat?
-
Look there were some shitty calls but I think you are digging a little too hard on this one. We got a couple of bad calls but you expect to get a few a game. We got beat. Now we get to go to the playoff without having to go to Atlanta.

That guy should be a coach with all that coach speak and bullshit he was uttering. Holy fuck has there ever been more words spoken where nothing was said?

There's never been a less scary trip to Atlanta. Free SEC Championship for whoever wins the west.

I'll reserve judgment until Georgia plays a couple more games. If they go into Hog country and slap em' around, which I have a feeling they will, they might run the table the rest of the way. I think a lot of how people are evaluating UGA is based off one bad (Close) loss to USCe. And yes, UT played them down to the wire. But they're averaging 43 points per game and have looked damn good the last couple of games.

This coupled with we can play one less game in what is already a season that is too long.

This particular season, I feel like this is the case. In the future, my bet is that the committee places much more emphasis on the winner of the conference championships. There are already more than whispers for this now. And then, you can pretty much pencil in ND almost every friggin year, so in reality--everyone is playing for 3 spots.
The years that FSU doesn't face anyone competitive from out of conference, pencil them in.
It's going to be a popularity contest. My bet is that 3(possibly 4) of the teams in the SEC west could likely beat any 3 ooc teams chosen for this years playoff 2 outta 3.
