- Maybe there are some people interested in what Tom Luginbill has to say. Maybe they even want to see his face as he watches a game from the sidelines. Maybe they also don't really care about seeing the actual plays on the field.
Auburn
- The ROC is loose! Roc hard! Roc Rock! Roc & Roll! What the hell are we going to call that kid? I think green is a good adjective for now. He had some moves and some quickness, but he definitely ran the ball like he thought he could score every play. Taking it in from five yards out in the 4th quarter against South San Francisco was impressive, but he definitely has a lot to learn about running in the SEC.
- Two years ago, we thought we had a roster of kids that most likely would not start for any respectable team in the SEC. Now, some of our 2nd stringers would be starters on some of the best teams in the SEC.
- Jeremy Johnson would start at every SEC school except Texas A&M and maybe Missouri. MAYBE Miss State, but I think he'd win the job. He could walk to LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Missouri and even Ole Miss and after walking, he would be handed the 1st string duties at QB.
- But he can't start at Auburn. Does that blow anyone else's mind?
2004 and 2010 are the only two years when Auburn has had a solid quarterback that was no doubt the best starter at the position. People bitched about Brandon Cox in 2005 after the first game and thought a true freshman Kodi Burns should take his spot in 2007.
In 2014, it's apparent that we not only have one quarterback that will definitely win as the starter but two. There is no injury concern at quarterback.
Mind boggling.
- CAP will be that player that gets overlooked because college football analysts are nepotistic, traditionalist douche bags. Between our offense and his ability, he's going to have top 5 NCAA running back stats and may get a head nod if we win all of our games.
- Those that wake up tomorrow morning and see "Auburn wins 59-13" will not have the correct headline of the game. Yes, we blew out San Jose State. Yes, we were all around better than them and were never in trouble. But there were missed tackles. Blown coverages. Lack of closing speed on receivers. Confusion. Chaos on the defensive line. If we're going to have any shot at the SEC championship, our defense has to get better. A lot better.
Alabama
- "Derrick Henry runs into the backs of his offensive linemen, tries to make something out of nothing, and falls down for a three yard gain." "And that's just Derrick Henry being Derrick Henry! The rich get richer! How Alabama has stockpiled so many of these backs!"
- Just shut the hell up! Amari Cooper is fast. I know. I know it because I watched him run past some scrawny kids wearing Florida Atlantic International State Technical Institute for the Poor and Forgotten uniforms. I know Kenyan Drake is explosive. I know because some fat defensive back was pulling his own pants up as Drake ran to the end zone.
- Maybe there should be more commentary about the teams we schedule. This is an Auburn problem as well. San Jose State is a cupcake. Florida Whatever is a cupcake. Asking Lamar to come over and play is a cupcake. Willie McNeese Nicole State is a cupcake. Eastern Michigan of West Lansing's Homicide Unit is a cupcake.
- Maybe commentators should only respond to big plays by SEC schools against cupcakes with "Well, Alabama is playing _________. Of course Amari Cooper is going to run for a 60 yard touchdown."
Florida
- I heard some ESPN goob say that Florida is the dark horse for the playoff. Yes, the team that went 4-8 last season, has the same coach, and a difficult schedule ahead of them is the dark horse. Was it their impressive ability to overcome adversity against Eastern Wisconsin Cheese Factory that gave you that impression?
Arkansas
- Another ESPN sludge head described Arkansas as VASTLY IMPROVED after their performance today. Yes, Arkansas really did a lot to make up for last week. They beat up some girl named Nicole. If only the NCAA was as tough on its teams as the NFL is on its players regarding domestic violence.
Ohio State and the Big 10
- And speaking of cupcakes: Ohio State sucks. So does the Big 10. Wisconsin is the only team left in the Big 10, and they have one loss. Michigan was beat 31-0 against Notre Dame. Nebraska needed some last second heroic by Ameer Medulla Oblongata to beat McNeese State. Michigan State couldn't handle the speed of Oregon. That's about it, right? Big 10 only has five teams, right?
Texas
- Saban to Texas! Do they fire Strong now? Knowing the arrogance of Texas, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Losing 41-7 to the mormons is a stinger. What's worse? NO ONE talking about it. Nothing on ESPN but a little blip. College football seems to be doing just fine without them though, so please everyone, refrain from the "CFB is better when Texas is good!" conversations.
Pat Haden
- And here is the issue with the college football playoff committee. This is the type of person they have on staff. If you didn't hear, Pat Haden ran down to the field from the press box to argue or chew out a ref. This is past Jerry Jones level of arrogance and control. This is someone who I personally do not want discussing my team when it comes to making important decisions. I further do not want this person talking to others who may discuss my team when it comes to discussing the college football playoff.
- Pat Haden hates Auburn. Does he not? I don't know for sure, but I know he's a hot head. I know that he is not balanced. I know he skirts the rules. I know he attempts to bully to get his way. I know some people have vendettas against programs. I know that if Pat Haden hates Auburn, I not know that Pat Haden will attempt to push Auburn out of the playoff unless he absolutely has to keep them in. But most likely, Pat Haden does not hate Auburn. He may hate your team though. Maybe you're a Notre Dame fan. Maybe you go to Stanford. UCLA. Either way, Haden should resign from the committee.
-
It will be an accomplishment advancing to Atlanta with our defensive backfield but it's possible when Garner and Johnson turn it up in conference play. We still will not have sound enough coverage but as long as our offense doesn't combine several sputters and a couple of mistakes together I think we could be in the final four. Georgia will get a lot of play so right now they look like the team to beat-twice!
We might have Carl Lawson bearing down on QBs again in November. That would surely help.
Michigan State was persistent in the second half trying to get wide on Oregon and I couldn't help but wonder why they didn't attack with some inside runs and misdirection Both teams looked good enough for now after only two weeks.
As far as Luginbill goes, he somehow climbed into my head yesterday and was repeating my thoughts aloud 2-3 minutes after the info traveled through these treacherous gusty caverns I like to call my mind. The future of certain players beyond their college careers was all his shit. I was only concerned with Auburn.
-
I just want to be the first to say tank you to VT for showing the country how much of a chump tosu really is. Also, IMO I think AU needs to get rid of Johnson and find a better DC. I don't have a problem with what he is trying to do, but you have to have guys in the secondary that don't get burnt all the damn time. And can we not teach our kids how to wrap up on a tackle? Dear JESUS!!! We should have won that game 75-0
-
There are some situations that might improve by replacing a head coach...if you can do better. There just aren't enough top flight head coaches to go around. It speaks volumes that Michigan passed on Les Miles and never even entertained an available Steve Spurrier. Yes there are golf courses in Michigan.
Nebraska went much the same way, first with Solich and then Pellini. Some get the best available (Arky) while others cling to a guy for fear of doing worse (UGA). Then you have programs that get hamstrung like Florida and now Texas where the verdict is still out but the evidence is mounting.
-
- Much like Mason last year, CAP will start getting notice around Week 8/9. Typical disrespect. Screw it man, it fuels our guys. I like it.
- We are a very good team. Maybe better than last year. But I like how we aren't in people's top 4 and are somewhat flying under the radar. We are going to be tough to outscore. Our O is serious.
- Florida ==> Blah. Want to see what they can do against a team with equal talent. Then we can talk. But hey, I hope like hell they beat the Taggghhhd.
- Ark was pretty impressive. 73 points..Even against a cupcake. After watching a 1-AA team beat ISU last weekend, and McNeese almost beat Nebraska yesterday, handling an inferior opponent as one should has become taken for granted. Kudos to the hogs. Now go prove yourself and beat a good team for the first time in 3 years.
- Big 10 lulz - glad to see Oregon (new school) beat Meat Chicken State (old way). HUNH and Spread are getting proven more and more every weekend, the way to go RIGHT NOW. Its hard to stop when you run it right. And have the players.
- Texas lulz x 10. Dumb ass Longhorns and their stupid ass fans. You deserve this. After the way you act arrogant. After the way you thought you could just waltz into this state and just buy whatever coach you wanted. After the way you looked down on the SEC. After the way you talked down to Texas A&M when they left you and came to us. So yeah fuck you. You deserve all of this. And this ass kicking happened in your own home stadium with your stupid assed godzilla tron running up a mammoth electricity bill while you got ass raped. Yes, we know...you can afford it. Got it. 41-7 to Mormons. <snicker>
Haden - 1st class douche. Just like Delaney. SEC envy. They hate us. Lost a little respect for Sark as well.
-
What did we learn from Week 2?
Not one damn thing.
-
I think that although Marshall has improved a lot, he's not going to throw through the tightest windows of any QB in the league. He doesn't need to.
CAP is much better than I thought last year and he should be able to carry the load.
Our WR's are the best we've had in a very long time. It will be a mistake for defenses to key on one guy.
Pass rush is improving and Montrae looked good. Yeah, it was St. Louis but still.
I thought LB's had a good game.
Pass coverage is the Achilles of this defense.
I think we look good. Very good.
-
Pass coverage is the Achilles of this defense.
I'm betting during the off week, we will see some changes made in the secondary or at least I hope.
-
What did we learn from Week 2?
Not one damn thing.
Not true I think we learned that Chizad rents gay RV's.
-
Does anyone know why the 3rd down defense hype song is that old ass young joc song "its goin down"?
-
Not much is more flawed than the transitive property of college football.
BUT, fuck it here goes.
Nebraska beat FAU 55-7 in week one and hung on by a nut hair to not lose to FCS school McNeese St.
Bama beat FAU 41-0 this week.
-

Also, who's more overrated than Alabama? Shockingly, there are a few candidates.
Ohio State still ranked 22 in the AP and 18 in the Coaches. GTFO of my polls, Ohio State. That 4th quarter win against Navy and a shellacking by unranked VT earned you a spot in the polls over dozens of unbeaten FBS teams? GTFO of my sight. You sicken me.
Michigan State still #13 in both polls. They beat Jacksonville fucking state in Alabama (who would be maybe the 10th best high school team in the state) by a score of 45-7 in week one. Then hung on to Oregon for a while before shitting the bed marvelously in the second half. Get to the back of the line.
Stanford. 15 in AP, 16 in Coaches. Great 45-0 win against UC Davis. Too bad you fucked up and couldn't put up more than 10 points against also-overrated USC. Bye.
Honorable Mentions:
Wisconsin: 18 AP, 17 Coaches. So glad you could pull yourself out of the gutter to beat Western Illinois 37-3. Too bad you already lost to LSU. They may be a halfway decent team, but you're no better than several teams below you until your records even up.
Clemson: 23 & 24. Good job beating up on South Carolina State. You still got sodomized by Georgia and now we have to hear about how they're the best team in the SEC until they play a decent team, which if SC is as bad as it appears, may not be until us in mid November. Same as above. Move to the back of the line, please.
Which brings me to South Carolina: 24 & 23. Essentially the same spots Clemson has, but flip-flopped in each poll. I'm hearing people say East Carolina is much better than advertised and they were lucky to pull out a 10 point win. Virginia Tech will likely beat the everloving shit out of them next weekend. And we all know A&M opened up the SEC football schedule and a can of whoop-ass the previous Thursday night. SC will also make Georgia look good for their second game as they trounce another overrated weakling from the state of SC. That should put the fork in them.
Still undefeated, but worthy of scorn:
This is the category that Alabama would fall into. Their contemporaries.
Nebraska: 21 in the Coaches poll. Thankfully dropped out of the AP. Should have lost to FCS school McNeese State this weekend. A 48 point win against FAU the week before ain't enough to make up for that. Buh-bye.
North Carolina: 25 in Coaches Poll. So far they've played Liberty and San Diego State. Beat Liberty 56-29, which is defensively kind of pathetic. Then held on against (the actual) San Diego State 31-27. Sad. If East Carolina doesn't take them out of the Top 25 next week, Clemson will the week after. Clemson will get to hang their hat on beating a "ranked" team and get a boost in the polls for this, sadly.
UCLA: 12 in both polls. Barely beat unranked Virginia by 8, then MEMPHIS had them tied up in the 4th quarter before blowing a game they should have won. Memphis.
Arizona State: 16 in AP, 14 in Coaches: I guess process of elimination got them ranked this high? 45-14 against Weber State and 58-23 against New Mexico. Don't think they'll survive three weekends in a row against California teams, but until they do, I'm begrudgingly ok with their ranking, I guess...
Kansas State probably doesn't belong at 19/20 after that game against the 5-19 Chiziks, but I'm glad they are, so fuck it. No complaints there.

I'd keep an eye on that East Carolina -16 vs the Cocks of USC. Screams trap.

Pat Hayden and Jeff Long want a word with you.
Long is misty-eyed over the return of Arkansas football. Should be a Top Ten team after scoring 73 last week. Did you not see the seven and the three? Jerry Jones hung the banner so there you go...
Haden still has rage issues. You call USC and the PAC-11tyfour overrated? Yeah? Well FUCK YOU! He will beat your ass.

Most overrated to me is Notre Dame.
Unless we're in the Final Four, I don't want those fucks up there providing a wet vagina for some other team.

Meh. None of those three are all that offensive to me, just yet.
For USC, beating Stanford, so far, is among the more impressive feats any team has under their belt so far. Not that I think they're great, but until they get exposed, it is what it is.
Arkansas isn't ranked, or even one of the 51 teams receiving even one vote on anyone's Top 25. Actually, they should be. The fact that they're so far off the radar is a slap in the face to Auburn, IMO.
Notre Dame...eh. I guess a bit over rated, but shutting Michigan out (who I know, sucks), so far, earns them at least a higher spot than those other schools, IMO.
One I did forget though for that third tier is Oklahoma. Their marquee win so far is the mighty Tulsa who hung on to beat Tulane in OT the week before. #4 in the country. Baylor hasn't beaten anybody yet either, and don't really play anyone worth a shit all year, save for maybe Oklahoma, and they're #7. Dangerously close to the Top 4 without playing anyone.

To be fair, no one's played anyone. Most teams have played shit-bag schools.
We shouldn't have polls for six weeks.

The mantra I keep hearing from the bama fucks: "we was already the best at running back. Now we got the best receiver in the game AND we got TWO damn quarterbacks. That Sims cat is so damn good not even JACOB FUCKING COKER could beat him out "
They have some good backs. Nothing spectacular, apologies to the caveman.
Cooper is ok. But there are a dozen receivers just as good.
They don't have two. They have none. They have two in the way that Turtle and Fro were two.
-

Auburn's 3rd string QB (Jonathan Wallace) would give uat's QBs a run...and no, I'm not joking.

Point of order, Oklahoma's "marquee win" is beating the ever-loving shit out of Alabama in the Sugar Bowl in January (which may or may not count because Coach Saban hath declared his team didn't want to be there).

That was last year.
Also, might I remind you, we beat them too. Why aren't we in the Top 4 yet? Why aren't we ahead of Bama?

Preaching to the choir, bud. But the answer to your question is #TheNarrative
#TheNarrative is that Auburn is lucky and therefore doesn't count. Wonder what they excuse will be when Gus and Co. drop 42 on them behind 300+ yards rushing again? #CantWait #BringIt #KStateIsNext

Amari Cooper on SEC Network
"When we play fast, the defense can't line up to make calls to stop the offense. I think that's our advantage."
Q: To what do you credit your offensive production?
A: (after blowing 'funny guy' Lane Kiffin) "Well, we get a lot more repetitions in practice than any other team in the country, so that gives me a chance to work on things more..."
How the fuck do they get "more repetitions" unless they are conducting illegal practices?
-
He just said cause they play fast, duh!

So now it's okay to use the "gimmicky HS type offenses?"
Also, I would not doubt that uat practices a little extra than any college in the NCAA...wouldn't doubt that they've been doing it for years.

This is funny like both funny haha and funny queer. All this complaining about player safety and see what sabynz has went and done now. If you can't beat them, join them. Oh, and by the way, sabynz invented the HUNH.
-
Now that Sabbin no longer cares about player safety, how long before the national (ESPN) narrative is how great the HUNH really is?

I watched the replay last night. Does anyone know if Trovon and Neiko Thorpe are cousins?
Geeze Louise. I sure hope that we can get some of these kinks worked out before TAMU or we'll set Hill up for the Heisman.
I realize we are bend but not breaking but we are breaking too often. If not for errant passes, there would be a few more torches in the two games.

Thats what front 7 pressure does.

I thought it was telling that Trovon Reed was able to switch to corner and start immediately. If Trovon had been a little more successful as a receiver or punt/kick returner, I could have been more excited about his athleticism transferring to defense. But at a major program like Auburn, unless a receiver has ultra physical ability, it should be very difficult to crack the starting rotation as we should have a number of recruited defensive backs with experience competing for 1st string.

Not a popular line of thinking but there might be a lingering "pay your dues" mentality still present from before the Deron Furr incident. If so, the chances of seeing good coverage again are nil and any freshmen that could excel might not get noticed. Hope this is not what's taking place.
Or:
Piss poor coaching
Piss poor talent evaluation
Anything else?
It WILL get us beaten.

Yes Whitey can dial up the pressure and we cannot play man or zone.
The way I see it is that we won in 2010 without a stellar defensive backfield or LB corps. I would argue that we did have a stellar d front. One of the best I remember seeing.
So, can we win again like this? We prob don't have the front we had in 2010 just yet. They appear to be getting there very fast though. A little more production from some of the newer guys, Montrae keeps rolling, get Lawson back and who knows? We may be lights out.
LB is better than 2010 already, imo.
DB's? I just don't know. I think better at tackling compared to 2010-2012. But, I think teams are passing even more. I don't know the stats but it appears that way. If we can't run tighter coverage, I see trouble there from primarily TAMU and Thuga.
I feel confident we can outscore the faggies. But Thuga? We need the d to step up. Pressure will help.

The close calls were there in 2010 and last season but the DB play is now worse or as bad as I have ever seen it.

We are excellent at bending but the not breaking part is a challenge.

I am amused and happy that we are debating what might cause us to slip up and lose a game when just 24 months ago the question was how were we ever going to win one.
We've had some occasional down times but for the majority of my adult life it's been pretty great to be an Auburn Tiger. My teenage years were hell. But from the moment Pat Dye arrived things have been pretty damn good.
When Bryant was at bama we blinked. We let him impose his will on he state and us. Not this time. In the face of their Bryant Renaissance we have not backed down. Our glory years are now. And ongoing. From dye to Bowden to Tuberville to Chizik to Gus we have mostly thrived.
God bless us.

Just to clarify, I never said we would lose. Just that we will need to cover better against faggies and thuga. We will. Unless, of course, we don't.
But, yes. God bless us. And God bless America. Bless your heart.

The Arky game, I understood. That was a stout running team with a coach who brings the Big 10 smash mouth mentality and a history of doing just that. Obviously an improved QB who handled the play action to perfection in the first half. And admittedly, we got lucky on a couple of bad, bad drops by their receivers. Can't argue with what the D did in the second half, though. As good a half of defense as I've seen at AU in maybe 6-7 years.
I'm with many of you on our DB's. Too many busted coverages already in 2 games. Front 7 are playing great but the DB's are letting too many guys get behind them. Now, I'm still not hitting the panic button there. San LousiFranObispoDiego State was not a good team. They had a few weapons and a nice system that we see from so many mid major teams. Spread you out and dink and dunk you to death. Hit one over the top on occasion and put points on the board. In other words, they're going to move the ball to an extent on everyone they play. But after all that, they had 13 points and 319 total yards. Only 65 rushing and I'd bet 80% or more....or 124/153rd of that was from their QB taking off.
Despite the busted coverage, in two games we're averaging 52 points and 545 yards per game. Our opponents are at 17 ppg and 323 ypg. Let's just fix that secondary shit and continue kicking ass.

Listen to him. He's pre-Law.

I am feeling very patriotic today for some reason.

We bitched about playing 10 yards off in zone coverage because we got dinked and dunked all over the field. Now we are playing more man, and press man, and with that you are going to get beat deep every once in a while.
This is the age of the offense in college football. Every team to some extent (except Vandy) seems to be capable of putting up big numbers on offense. the name of the game today is to score with them for the first half, wear them down and then out score them in the 2nd.
Almost every team right now does it the same way. Just look at Oregon/Mich State. They let MSU hang around in the 1st half, wore them down, and overwhelmed them in the 2nd.
I'm fine with a few long passes. Just keep the run game in check and hold them to less than 30 and we should win most games

Offense not in question.
Defensive line is doing pretty well even without Lawson.
Linebacker play in keeping with defensive line, so far so good.
Auburn Football-Wonderful.
God Bless America!
Secondary

Way wrong on the LBs. Give me Bynes, TWill and...whoever was the third...and this defense is proper.

I know it's your birthday and everything but you suck if you really believe this. Nova and Frost have more upside. Bynes, bless his heart, played with every bit of heart he had and was solid. But slow. You just stick to celebrating your birthday and let me handle the defense. It's in very qualified and capable hands.

Craig Stevens
But I believe TWill & Bynes played six years apart.
You might be thinking of Antarrious (sp?) Williams, Kevin Sears or Mayo Sowell & TWill.
Hell, give me Takeo Spikes, Dontarious Thomas, Karlos Dansby.

Good choice Prowler...but they can't make our poor secondary go away.
Our own Coach Dye stated Monday that it won't be the best offense that wins the championship but the best offense with the best defense that will do it...and our achilles is our secondary where a so-so QB can currently look like Joe Fuckin' Cox, All American.
It's why we aren't gaining more interest.

I'm still in love with Jason Miska, who sacked Jay Barker just by yelling at him.

Give me the busty patriot and Nick Marshall, sight unseen at either corner for the win.
