Title: San Diego Jose Week
Post by: AUChizad on September 02, 2014, 11:17:58 AM
I don't think there's much chance we get caught in a trap and lose the game, but I think Auburn fans are just a little bit too dismissive of this team. If the players do the same, it could be closer than comfort dictates.

Last year they were 6-6 with their final win of the year being a 62-52 win over #16 Fresno State.

Last weekend they routed North Dakota 42-10.

Auburn SHOULD put them on the receiving end of a similar ass pounding. Before anyone says I'm being paranoid, again, I don't think there's any danger of us actually losing. Just that they actually make a game out of it for a half or so.

Uh...well I'm with you that I hope our players play hard, but San Jose State gave up 35 points a game last season.  38 if you don't include the shut out of California State at Sacramento in the opening week.  They also gave up 40 or more points five times last season.

And North Dakota?  This isn't North Dakota State we're talking about.  I MAY be a tidbit worried if they beat that program.  But just regular ole North Dakota--if we're bringing up last season as an indication of this season--went 3-8.  In FCS.

So I hope our defense plays to improve, but I would be seriously worried if this is actually a game at any point after the opening kickoff.

Yeah, derp. All of my comments were applied to San JOSE State but my fingers typed the wrong thread title.

And again, I don't think we lose, or run any real risk of doing so.

Same here. Screw the stat padding, hold out the planned redshirts, allow boo boos to heal, get the reserves some game reps and preparing for the gauntlet ahead.

What I don't want to see are meaningless touchdown celebrations risking injury.
What I really want to see moving forward in conference play are all of the ballhawks and hammers on the field together-can do no worse than the clueless, kite flying look I found a penny secondary that we have to endure.

More hammers = more bruises for the opposition's playmakers reducing the amount of times I get a sinking feeling due to an unopposed score.

With it being the second game of the season, I believe we'll see the starters in the first half & some of the 3rd qtr, then the backups will come in. Still need the OL & the secondary to gel together more.

We can overcome a few missed assignments up front but that secondary might be better suited for catching butterflies.

Auburn has covered 12 in row. If you’d put $100 on 1st game & let winnings ride each game, you’d have nearly $410,000

31 points is a lot to overcome against what I think is a better team than most people are giving them credit for. Our Vegas streak may end here. Hope not.

Second quarter needs to be nothing but passes from Marshall. He needs that.

Although I have to say his option read is not as refined yet.

Well hell. Looks like Bray took the ball away from the offense.

We are blah. We tried to put the game on NM, he just is not sharp.

His reads are off. His throws are not as good as they should be.

I guess we are playing blah because of the opponent. But NM needed this game to hone his skills. I did not see a lot if honing. JJ can hand off to CAP.

We need Nick sharp like last season. Our D is still suspect!

I loved the last TD, but we KNOW Nick can do that. He needs more work on the pass.

Luckily we have two of the best WRs In the country in Duke and Sammie, after that it seems to be a crapshoot. Like leftovers from the towel era. If the ball don't hit you in the gut, no reason to catch it. Well NM is not a gut passer. I'll be glad to get Sammie back.

I'll say it.
Nick is a master at the zone read. No human near the city of Auburn could even be in position to fumble it through the endzone with that effort...expelled effort, which the guy exerts and that takes a toll on his passing form, timing etc.
I'm not saying he doesn't need more work, that's obvious. I seriously doubt he's going to be much over a 60% passer and I'm also grateful we have two very good playmaking receivers with quality depth.

My biggest question moving forward is about the defensive backfield. We have extreme speed at safety, I get the reasoning behind that. But we aren't communicating on top of the poor corner play.  I can't help thinking there's this seniority or pecking order thing that might be preventing us from getting the best out there...even a true freshman that would require more attention to get game ready.

He was a master at the read option last season with Tre. I think there is a much different dynamic with CAP.

It's gonna take a few more games to refine like last year. And that's cool cause CAP is already a beast.

When this thing gets cranking like last season...

Good game. The score is what the world wants to see. But as AU fans, we were looking for those little things to be honed. The one thing that I feel damn good about is the future at QB and RB. Loaded is such a useless word for this.

The defense is on par with last year. LB play a bit better but it's hard to tell due to the DBs getting beat a little too much.

But hopefully we will get better before muderer's row(hehe)!

We have a helluva team again. Get few bounces and keep mistakes to a minimum, and we are right back in it.

AU football is fun again!
