Title: Auburngeddon
Post by: AUChizad on August 01, 2014, 07:33:55 PM
Okay, for the opener.  Carl Lawson is out.  Alex Kozan may be out.  Roc Thomas may be out.  Jon Mincy may be out.  Nick Marshall may be out.

And practice hasn't started yet.  I'm not gettin' the warm fuzzies right now.
Welp.

Gus just had a presser to confirm that Kozan is out for the entire season. Will be having back surgery.

He also confirmed that Marshall & Mincy will be out for Arkansas, or at least will "not start". May have a DJ Hall in the La Monroe game if shit against the piggies gets out of hand, which I pray to God they don't.

So, of Snag's list, only Thomas remains to be seen. The rest are all out, to varying degrees.

He did say Roc practiced without limitations today, so that's good at least.

don't worry, about a thing, cause every little thing, gonna be alright

So in this variation of "Armageddon", the giant ASSteriod heading our way is Bielima nervosa?  (a swine disease that will make them vomit forth cash in form of buyout)

I think any SEC coach can buy three years if he can beat Saban (only Bammuh can beat Bammuh) or Malzahn, especially those from the center tier.

Meh, who cares? The university? Please! They pay Gus to win; not to be Director of Big
Brothers/Big Sisters. If no one got in trouble but he went 7-5 every year, the powers that be would let him go and would hire another one. It is ALL about the wins and the money.

Nick gonna play. So who cares?

Apparently the plan all along was to play Jeremy Johnson more this year no matter what. http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2014/08/bigger_role_for_jeremy_johnson.html (http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2014/08/bigger_role_for_jeremy_johnson.html)

I wonder if that's just a public way of motivating Nick to stay clean or if they are for realz. I seem to recall similar talk last year but his playing time against UGA, UA, MU, and FSU was stark at best.

I think it's a way to keep Johnson happy too with so many college QBs jockeying around.

If Marshall is a true Heisman contender, which he is a clear front runner going into the season, this hurts his campaign badly. Hurts his numbers.

I'm also not too worried about the Marshall/Mincy thing. Much more worried about the Kozan thing.

I will say, I hope Marshall & Mincy sit out at least a half, and I would love the shit out of it if we wouldn't play them at all because we're beating Arkansas by 28 or more by the third quarter without them.

But as much as we like to joke about Bert being terrible. And he is. He's definitely got us circled and will be doing whatever he can to catch us sleeping.

Marshall would have to win it mainly with heroics based on our schedule. Mariota has to put up numbers in the ballpark with Winston who could lose it due to crab claws, bb guns and forced sex...allegedly.

Bright side is Fat back Bret has been preparing for the likes of Marshall. I would imagine that with Gus using Johnson at QB we will lots more in the passing game.  Hello Duke and Sammie.

Yup and it causes Brett to change their practices...then when Marshall comes in for the second play, it'll fuck up their strategy.

The Hogs have real confidence that they have Auburn "figured out" and are going to win something like 31-21.

Should Marshall be a no go in any game, I have confidence in this guy. No he's far from being Cam as a runner but he ain't chopped liver either.

Never had chopped liver.

"Holsey will play Corner and then move over to one of the Safety positions during certain formations. He's going to be a lot like former LSU's Tyrann Mathieu. Going to be very fun to watch, because he can become that type of player." - Jermaine Whitehead

AUBURN, Alabama -- A projected starter along Auburn's offensive line is not expected to participate in full-contact practice today.

Offensive guard Chad Slade was off to the side and not wearing shoulder pads during a session of practice open to the media.

Slade is expected to start at left guard for the Tigers in the season opener against Arkansas after Alex Kozan had season-ending back surgery in July.

A few more updates from practice today:

*** Senior cornerback Trovon Reed was not practicing and was off to the side. He had a small brace on his right knee, but it doesn't appear to be serious.

*** Offensive tackle Austin Golson, who must sit out this season after transferring from Ole Miss, was off to the side without shoulder pads. He did not practice Monday.

*** Receiver Dominic Walker was dressed out, but was running the sidelines during drills.

*** We finally got see freshman running back Roc Thomas touch the football today. Thomas was involved in the kick return rotation alongside Ricardo Louis, Corey Grant, Johnathan Ford and Stanton Truitt.

*** The same rotation at punt return was working special teams today.

*** Several referee from the Alabama High School Athletic Association arrived at practice at reporters were departing. It appears Auburn will work some scrimmage-like situations.

They obviously made a wrong turn and thought they were in Tuscaloosa. Either in Alabama to look at talent that plays for Nick Saban or to get advice on how to run an organization from Nick Saban. Nick Saban gets his boys NFL ready, you know.

Auburn H-Back injured; availability for season up in air

By Brandon Marcello
August 12, 2014 at 12:27 PM

AUBURN, Alabama -- Auburn fullback Gage Batten has been injured, and his status for the upcoming season is in doubt.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn confirmed Batten has been injured, but did not divulge details or the severity of the injury Tuesday.

"He's a tough guy," Malzahn said. "He's a team player, he's a hard working guy, brings a lot of edge to our team."

Batten's injury affects Auburn's plans at H-Back, where Brandon Fulse and C.J. Uzomah are expected to challenge for the starting job. Batten, a walk-on, is a backup.

Tight ends coach Scott Fountain said last week Batten had the potential to be the go-to lead blocker in third-and-short situations.
