JonThan Mincy arrested in Henry County.
Per teh Twitters.
No idea what for yet.
Second degree possession of weed. Dammit. No way for a senior to set an example.
EDIT AGAIN:
@AUBlog: According to @dothaneagle: Mincy was a passenger in a car going 92mph in a 65 zone on HWY 431 in Abbeville, charged w/ marijuana possession.
Dammit, he needs a lawyer who cares. Where's one when you need him???
-
SMH, come on MINCY!!!

I wonder how Gus will handle this?

Hey Mincy, can you get rid of this?

92 mph!
It's an insult to potheads everywhere.
-
This guy really needs to think about his actions and the people he associates with.
I mean, if he wrecked at that speed, he would surely be too injured to contribute this season.

Well, its pretty obvious that whomever was driving was not partaking of the smokage. However, the passengers of the car were all shiting their pants.

JM should have seen this first or move to Colorado

Kalvaraz Bissent was caught in possession of a weapon and weed before arriving at Auburn but Mincy was a starter. I'm guessing Malzahn's penalty is going to be harsh with a two or three game unpaid suspension.

al.com ready to debate whether it's a bump in the road or the sign of an epic collapse the likes of which the college football world has never seen.
Too soon to tell, but Auburn can't handle success. We don't sustain. That's the story.

I can't see this group of coaches allowing that to happen.

Here's al.com's shittastic story. Scarbo surprised me with this one.
The question won’t even begin to be answered until 3 o’clock on the afternoon of Aug. 30, but every time the Gus Bus hits the smallest speed bump, it has to be asked.
Will success spoil the Auburn football program - again?
In a vacuum, defensive back Jonathon Mincy's arrest Friday on a second-degree marijuana possession charge would barely register on the radar. College football players are college kids, and college kids smoke pot. Common sense suggests the number of players that smoke it isn’t limited to the ones that get caught.
It’s an act more selfish and stupid than criminal.
But Mincy isn’t just another player. He’s a fifth-year senior, a returning starter, a young man smart enough to graduate last December and reliable enough to speak to school kids. About that ...
This past Wednesday, the official Twitter account of Auburn athletics posted a photo of several football players “who spoke to over 200 youth at today’s D.A.R.E. camp put on by Auburn police.†One of those players: Jonathon Mincy.
What does D.A.R.E. stand for? Drug Abuse Resistance Education. The top of the organization’s web site includes this mission statement: “Teaching students good decision-making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives.â€
If Mincy is guilty - of the misdemeanor and hypocrisy - his own decision-making skills need some re-education.
His lapse in judgment, getting busted barely a month before the start of fall camp, could be a red flag at any program, but he doesn’t play for just any program. He plays for the defending SEC champions, a team that came up just short of winning the national title - a program that followed its last big season by coming apart at the seams, first gradually, then suddenly.
There’s scant evidence right now to charge Auburn with making the same mistake twice, but Gus Malzahn has to be vigilant for any signs of slippage. He knows what those red flags look like. The program’s decline after its 2010 BCS title began in the off-season heading into 2011, and he was still on the premises as offensive coordinator.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of discipline Malzahn hands down if Mincy is guilty. It would seem overly penal to kick him off the team, as he did senior defensive back Demetruce McNeal last summer after a similar misdemeanor pot charge, but some kind of message-sending would appear to be in order.
Auburn’s recent history just about demands it.

Damn. I didn't know about his speaking to the DARE kids on Fri. 2nd degree pot possession isn't the beginning of the end and I don't have any problem with Scarbs article. I also don't have any doubt that Gus will address this with appropriate discipline.
Kicking him off the team, assuming that he hasn't had any other major issues, would be ridiculous. He needs to sit some, for sure. But I feel that it will be the other disciplinary measures that should hit home, like extra running, extra whateva and maybe the worst one that he can imagine. Random pot tests.

He was in "dog house" during his first year at Auburn...not sure if it was Marijuana related. This incident, Mincy is taking the rap for one of the other three in the vehicle.

If one were running a Division 1 program, would you not already be giving random drug test?

Who in that vehicle had as much to lose as Mincy. For him to be taking the rap for someone else in the vehicle, that has no prospect of being a starter for a possible national championship team would only prove that he was stoned out of his grape.
-
There is nothing to talk about but soccer and opting out.
-
If I had to choose between drinking alcoholic beverages or smoking pot...I would choose smoking pot. I would much prefer pot brownies though.
-
I think we are overlooking the obvious problem here - those damn cops!
Do they not understand the chain of command in this state?
Oh, it was an Auburn player - nevermind...................

Yes, I believe division 1 has random testing for 3rd string and below.

Yep.
It's a stupid mistake, but Gus hasn't shown any propensity to soft-peddle discipline and I expect Mincy to miss meaningful time.

I agree...especially when other HC's in the conference tend to be much softer while Auburn by some mystery is being goaded publicly to do real harm to a young man's future for a non-violent incident.
I can picture the cop engaging the driver and then shining his light and chuckling when he sees Mincy covered in shake looking like a Chia Pet.
-
Abbeville eh?
Maybe visiting Chris Porter for the hookup.

According to witnesses on the scene, when the arresting officer shined his flashlight toward Mincy and saw the green leaves on his shirt, he reportedly said, "Rowww Tahd".
