Title: Spurrier says you can't handle the truth, uat....
Post by: The Prowler on June 23, 2014, 10:46:40 PM
"I told Nick Saban one time, I said, 'Nick, you don't have to stay there until midnight and your teams would be just as good and win just as many,' " Spurrier said. "He said, 'If I could do it the way you do it, I would, but I don't feel comfortable unless I try to cover every base, every angle, be totally prepared.' I said, 'Well, that's probably why you do it.' When I come out there, I feel comfortable we are ready to play. We have our game plan in, going to call this, call that and so forth. Everybody is different as far as when they feel they are totally prepared."

The Gamecocks have won a school-record 11 games in each of the past three seasons. If he worked longer hours "would we be 12-1 instead of 11-2? Oh, you're kidding," Spurrier said. "I haven't heard anybody say that really, but if you wanted to, you can find faults with anybody if they don't win them all. How many SECs has (Saban) won there in eight years? He's won two. He's won three nationals, but he's only won two SECs in eight years. Now, if you had the No. 1 recruiting class every year and so forth, I don't know if he has maxed out potentially as well as he could."

In light of this, and more specifically the bammers and "unbiased" media members FREAKING OUT in response over the notion that Saban is not a God, and also the fact that it is a treacherously slow day, I was doing some thinking...

Saban is 4-3 (0.57) against Auburn while at Alabama. Hardly lopsided as the media would have you believe.

He's 6-6 (0.500) against Auburn total, when you count his time at LSU.

He's 3-4 (0.42) against Tuberville (2-3 while he was at LSU).
He's 3-1 (0.75) against Chizik. Congrats. Who isn't?* (More on that later)
He's 0-1 (0.00) against Malzahn.

*Who wasn't 3-1 or better against Auburn during the Chizik era? Answer: Every team that played us all four years except the two Mississippi schools (who of course both still beat us in '12).
     Arkansas (Petrino & Smith): 3-1
     LSU (Miles): 3-1
     UGA (Richt): 3-1
Also Joker's UK was 1-1, Sumlin's A&M & Franklin's Vanderbilt were 1-0 each, and Dabo's Clemson was 2-1.

Every one of these teams with a single loss were in 2010.

So in summation, Saban is completely average, at least in terms of playing against Auburn.

He's 5-7 (0.41) against Auburn total, when you count his time at LSU.

He's 0-1 (0.00) against Malzahn.

But, but, but...they've had back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back recruiting titles.

Dabo's Clemson was 2-0.

Didn't we beat them in OT in 2010?

I only know we won by a late FG and that was the game that stopped the dumbass from celebrating on the sidelines before halftime.

Correct. Dabo's 2-1 as well.  Forgot we played them three  damn years in a row.

Needless to say, every team's one loss was 2010.

Is it just 5-7?  I thought I heard a stat the other day that said Saban was 0-8 any time he plays an Auburn team that finishes with at least 9 wins.

I'd like to give you credit there for coming up with that, but I am thinking that was a real call into a radio program recently. Wasn't it?

I went back and looked again.

I did fuck up, but in the other direction.

Somehow I attributed his record against Tuberville while at LSU to be 1-4, when actually he was 2-3.

That one game swing kind of fucks my premise up to a degree, but still the fact remains relatively the same. Rather than having a losing record to Auburn in total, he actually is .500.

Corrected above.

As for the stat you are looking for, he is 0-6 vs. Auburn teams with 9 or more wins. He was 0-5 at the time of this article just before this year's Iron Bowl.

Conversely, he's 6-0 against teams with less than 9 wins.

Y'all make this shit up, but truth is stranger than fiction...

The other day after the Spurs won the NBA Championship, and local bammer tried to pass this off as a funny joke.

"Yeah, the Spurs flew over Auburn air space during the finals, so them Aubs are going to claim another title from that."  WTF?  I mean doesn't a joke like that have to have some element of truth for it to be remotely funny?  And the irony was completely lost on him I guess.

I plan to simply claim one more national championship than any Bama fan that I'm talking to, regardless of how many more we or they win for the rest of my life. I won't go into the years or who awarded it, just the number.

I suspect it will go something like this: "No, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Regardless of what you've "been told" Auburn has 17 national championships and you have 16. There was a time that we didn't claim a lot of the earlier ones but we decided to go back and claim a lot of the ones that were awarded from the same places that Alabammer claims them from. You need to do some research. I know what the fuck I'm talking about, bitch."

Drives them wild.

Another fun fact:

If/when Auburn wins this year's Iron Bowl, we would have twice the Iron Bowl wins as Bama this century.

10-5.
