Title: Unclaimed Property
Post by: Townhallsavoy on June 11, 2014, 09:58:37 PM
So on Reddit, someone brought up that you can search your state's treasury for any unclaimed property.  If something's listed, you can get paid whatever that company owes you.

I searched my name and found an entry with my Auburn address from 2004 that said Paypal owes me >$100.

I'm going to assume that this is a million dollar payment after Paypal invested my money and turned it into, well, a million.

But even if it isn't, $100 would be nice for a bottle of Bulleit, a steak, and some cigars.

One issue - in order to claim ownership, I have to provide quite a bit of proof that I lived at that address and that I am who I say I am.  If I wasn't, why would I say I am?  In the news, in the paper...anyway, they want proof that I lived at that Auburn address and I don't have it.  Any ideas on how to get around this part?

Call Auburn.  Most schools keep some sort of history of where the students lived.  Every school I've worked at has effective dates for student's mailing/local addresses, although Auburn is on a different computer system than I work on, so it might be a dead end.

I just did this.  Recovered $44...an old waste management deposit.

Would not have done it if it weren't administered by the state CFO.

Surely you have some old Gay Life magazines in a box somewhere with that address on it. Or, maybe there is a power bill, old check book, police record. Something.

I didn't have a Paypal account when I was in college. I did have a nice typewriter though. And a nice denim book satchel. And a top of the line thermos. And some damn fine mechanical pencils, like the engineering students had.
