Cam Newton's time at Auburn may have been brief, but the Heisman Trophy winner hasn't shied away from helping keep the Iron Bowl rivalry alive.
His foundation held a 7-on-7 tournament at West Lake High School in Atlanta on Thursday, and Alabama commit Mekhi Brown was among the players participating. According to 247Sports, Newton knocked the Crimson Tide during an encounter with the four-star defensive end.
"(Newton) was just like, Alabama ain't where I need to be," Brown said. "He was talking to one of my teammates who had on an Alabama visor. He was talking about how he needed to get an Auburn visor and stuff like that. It was crazy."
Brown added he was "starstruck" after the encounter with the Carolina Panthers quarterback, who was taking pictures with fans. The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder holds an Auburn offer, but has been committed to the Tide since April 2013.
In his lone season at Auburn, Newton rallied the Tigers from a 24-0 deficit for a 28-27 win in the 2010 Iron Bowl, propelling the team to the SEC and BCS championships.

I've noticed how there seems to be a push with the state "media" for stories about AU people taking jabs at UA. Seemingly, this is because AU is preoccupied with UA and because it never happens the other way around.
