Title: Every Jacob Coker Play from 2013
Post by: AUChizad on May 27, 2014, 06:13:24 PM
Including the spring game.

Meh. Has a couple of great passes and a couple of good plays where he runs it out, but lots of terrible passes & sacks as well. When you keep in mind that he is playing in garbage time against teams they're beating by 60 points or more, or against the 2nd string in the case of the spring game, he certainly doesn't appear to be the Messiah that bammers seem to be hoping for.

See this is the thing about limited film in a mop-up role v. being named THE guy. And as far as returning QBs go we have seen Dylan Thompson who has been very inconsistent next to that baller Conner Shaw and we know how unnerving it must be to be an Ole Miss fan v. a quality opponent  with Bo Wallace. I'm going to have to have to go back and watch the EGG Bowl and State's Bowl game to see Dak Prescott be more than a prolific runner-he's super strong in that regard. Which leads me to Matty Mauck who seems the best of the four as an all around QB even though he might not have much in the way of receivers with which to work.

That is the bammer savior?  They must be going back to 2 TE and two backs split behind him - only need one receiver if that is all he is going to stare at every damn play.................

They are loaded at the skill positions and it's quite possible for them to win the first three without a QB.

Do you always attempt passes on the first you guy you see, too?

I didn't see much in the way of a "savior" watching those plays. He eyeballs the receiver that he's throwing to.

Looked pretty good.

Though I still 100% believe the reason why Florida State hyped him up so much and claimed he was neck and neck with Winston was because they didn't want their freshman starting quarterback to fall into complacency.

By "good" you mean horrible? I agree.

Which play did he "look good" in, the two passes against Bethune Cookman where the WR was open by 40 yards? The 8-9 five yard out passes? The 8-10 five yard in passes (I think he completed 2 of those, the others were off target or intercepted)? Getting sacked by the second string defenses in games that were over in the 2nd or 3rd qtr (including Bethune Cookman)? Up by 576 points against Maryland and still throwing (completing one or two passes)?

Mop up duty against the likes of Nevada, Pitt, Bethune Cookman, Maryland, Nc State & Wake Forest...and didn't look like any kind of "Savior" in any of those games, even against the teams that wanted to just get the fuck out of there.

Throw in the fact that he has to learn a new playbook and terminology.

Alls he's gotta do is throw the ball up for #9 to go get it.

Tha fuck?  I just wasted several minutes of my life watching Jacob Coker dink and dunk shitty, poorly thrown passes.  Missed screens, interceptions out the ass, throwing behind receivers 5 yards away....

This is what all the hype has been about?  I've said this before.  He may be turn out to be the greatest thing since houndstooth.  But this is a 3 star kid out of HS who barely has average stats playing two years in a mop up role.  Bama may win em' their 483rd Nayshunal Champeenship, but it won't be because of this guy.

As long as it isn't despite him... y'all know they so talented, all they need is a game manager.

I will need to read what someone who actually knows something about football has to say and evaluate more game film before I make my final assessment.

What I was trying to say, with a little tact and diplomacy, is that you usually don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Usually.  That doesn't mean always.  So, there are those rare times of clarity.  And this is most definitely one of them.  I know football....when I'm not doing meth.

All b.s. aside about Coker. If Kiffin wins with him, it may be ranked up there with the job than Malzahn did with a rag-armed Todd. I cannot see how he could have truly pushed Winston for the starting job.

I honestly don't think there was ever a competition. (Not that I followed the FSU QB race).  Like was said earlier, probably just the corches not letting Captain Crabclaw get complacent.

The one thing in his favor is he'll be on the field...if he wins the job...with players from the last five #1 recruiting classes in the nation.  That's what makes the job Malzahn did with Todd X1,000 better. With Coker or McTat or The Concussed Kid...it's "Just don't fuck it up."

Listening to some clown on the radio.  Caller says that bama fans should remember 2010 and how Auburn coaches claimed the race between cam and trotter was neck and neck.

Host:
I think it's a little too early to be comparing Coker to a heisman winner.

The whooshing sound I heard was the point flying right over his head. The slurping sound I heard was the host gobbling down another crimson load.
