Alabama QB Parker McLeod eyeing transfer options

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Redshirt freshman quarterback Parker McLeod has Alabama's blessing to scope out transfer possibilities, coach Nick Saban told reporters Tuesday at the SEC's spring meetings.

BamaOnline first reported the news of McLeod's impending transfer.

McLeod would be the fifth quarterback signed by Saban to end his career at Alabama via transfer.

McLeod, a three-star prospect from Marietta, Ga., enrolled early in 2013 and primarily worked as a scout-team quarterback. As Alabama evaluated candidates to replace longtime starter AJ McCarron throughout the spring, McLeod's name was rarely mentioned. His one pass at last month's A-Day game was intercepted.

McLeod's departure would leave Alabama with five scholarship quarterbacks: senior Blake Sims, junior Jacob Coker, sophomore Alec Morris, redshirt freshman Cooper Bateman and freshman David Cornwell. Both McLeod and Bateman were members of Alabama's 2013 signing class.

"I knew it was going to be like this," McLeod said in Feb. 2013. "I knew there was going to be competition in the class coming in. I knew that when I committed so I knew what I was getting myself into. I feel confident in my abilities. I'm obviously a competitor. I'm not averse to competition. I'm going to work my hardest."

If you knew all this, why did you sign in the first place?
