Authorities in Shelby County were on the scene of a gruesome mass homicide Wednesday night.

Five people were found dead inside an apartment at the Cahaba Lakes complex near U.S. Highway 280 and Valleydale Road.  Sources said the victims are all Hispanic.  Their throats had been slashed.

Sheriff Chris Curry said deputies were called to the apartment for a welfare check Wednesday evening.  Curry said the apartment had very little furniture.

It was unclear whether the victims had been killed inside the apartment or whether they had been killed elsewhere and then taken to the apartment.

It was also unclear whether the killer, or killers, had been identified or caught.

The Birmingham FBI (web) confirmed to ABC 33/40 it had at least one agent on the scene.  The federal agency was providing investigative and forensics assistance.

My fiance and I looked at those apartments about two months ago.

Honestly, I'm not surprised this happened there.  The place was ghetto.

What did this line have to do with a multiple homicide?

What did this line have to do with a multiple homicide?

It means nobody lived there.  It could mean a lot of things.  The apartment might have been rented only for drug deals.  It might have been a place where they dumped bodies.
