Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer are lead SEC Network announcers
Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer will be the lead SEC Network broadcast team when the channel launches this fall, ESPN announced today.
Musburger, a recognized voice in the broadcasting industry, had been calling a national game each week for ESPN/ABC with Kirk Herbstreit. Musburger's new role opens the door for Chris Fowler or Rece Davis to call the top ESPN/ABC national game each week. SI.com previously reported that Fowler wants the top play-by-play job for ESPN/ABC.
ESPN's news release said Musburger received a multi-year contract extension and will continue to call Big 12 college basketball games and share "his expertise and experiences as a mentor."
"Brent Musburger is a cultural icon who has been guiding fans through many of sport's most spectacular moments for decades," ESPN Executive Vice President John Wildhack said in a statement. "His big-game performance and unmistakable style will elevate our football coverage on the SEC Network. Serving as the definitive play-by-play voice for this major network launch represents an exciting new chapter in his legendary career and reinforces our commitment and investment in the SEC Network."

Palmer is a former Florida quarterback who has been an ESPN analyst for its Thursday broadcasts. He will continue in that role in addition to calling one SEC Network game each week.
Another former Florida quarterback, Tim Tebow, was previously announced as an analyst on the network's weekly "SEC Nation" pre-game show. Other broadcasters announced for the SEC Network are Joe Tessitore and Paul Finebaum.
Musburger and Palmer will debut by calling the Texas A&M-South Carolina game on the SEC Network on Aug. 28.
The SEC Network so far has cable and satellite deals to be in approximately 20 million homes. SEC athletics directors are budgeting conservatively for 2014-15 due to the unknown of how much distribution the network will initially get and at what rates.

“One year from today, August 21, 2014, the SEC Network will be launched, marking an historic day in the almost 80-year history of the Southeastern Conference,†said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive in a news release. “One week later, the SEC Network will kick off the 2014 football season with a conference game between Texas A&M and South Carolina scheduled for Thursday, August 28 in Columbia, S.C.â€

Sounds as if he may have been fondling himself as he announced the selection. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Finebaum has long been on board and will be considered the "face" of the SEC Network.
So go ahead & party.

He shouldn't be the "face" of anything, unless you are talking about a rectum.
