Just a gripe -
Chase Mortgage drafted my mortgage payment from my bank account twice. Both on the same day. I called to get it straightened out, and they said there was nothing they could do because I scheduled two payments.
After being transferred between three different people, they finally said they would refund one of my payments in 5 business days but would not refund the money any faster than that because it was error on the customer's fault.
Why the hell would anyone pay the same mortgage payment twice? If I wanted to pay more off the principal, don't they think I would have just paid extra on the one payment?
Is there an organization I can report this to? This is absolute bullshit.

This is one of those cases of the company is to big to give a fuck about your problem. My hate is directed at Wells Fargo. Refinanced our house with one bank who just sold the loan the Wells Fargo. Been making payments (on time) every month for over 5 years, Well they lost (posted to wrong account) one of my payments. One day after due date my phone blows up from the collection dept. I try and explain that I made the payment and look at my history as I have never been late (not once) and that the problem is on there end. No luck, every day for three days I get about 2 to 3 phone calls. Go to a local wells Fargo (where customer service has died) and laid into some poor customer service rep. Well they find their mistake and the phone calls stop but I go back to the Rep at the bank and start bitching up a storm about my time and so on. Stayed there till I walked out with a $100.00 gift card. Said he would make it $250.00 if I opened up an account. I almost laughed in his face.
Go to a local chase, you might at least get something out of them.

Wow, I have had really good experiences with Wells Fargo.
Maybe they don't think you are all that keen.

I bank with Wells Fargo. They advised me to not use my card until the money is refunded and they will reimburse my overdraft charges when Chase gets their shit together.
What a clusterfuck.

Had the same thing happen with my Wells Fargo mortgage about 4-5 months back. WF said they could reverse the payment but, as with your case, it would take 5-6 business days. Luckily I caught the error the morning it occurred so I called my bank and had a stop put on the payment... which only meant the account showed the charge for a single business day.
Still a huge pain, as I had to wait a week then get back on the phone with the bank to make sure they would allow WF to properly draft my NEXT mortgage payment. It sucks but there's not much you can do about it that would be worth the effort.

We have had mortgages with both Chase and Wells Fargo and had no issues with either one. Chase has all of our banking business too. Maybe this is just a one off, because I genuinely think Chase is the best in a nasty business.

We bank with a local bank (about 8 branches in the North Dallas area) Great Customer service.
My investment money is with Cap one. They have good rates (if you call that) on a super savings.

Did you actually make 2 separate payments by mistake and you think the bank should have caught it, or did they draft 2 for no reason?

There's no way I made two separate payments. I have a "pay the bills" day because when I first got out of college, I was having a hard time remember to pay every bill.
It's also a three page process to pay the mortgage bill.
I would have had to gone through the process twice in a five minute sitting and not realized what I was doing.
It's not that being drafted twice is a big deal. Wells Fargo won't penalize me for overdrafting once Chase refund the payment.
It's that when I called Chase to discuss it with them, they absolutely would not admit nor even consider admitting fault and made an effort to tell me repeatedly that it was my fault. Not a glitch in their system. Not maybe a processing error. Nothing.
All three people I spoke to said at least once - "Because this is a customer error...."

Why didn't you just have them apply the 2nd payment to next month?

I am guessing here but:
If they applied the payment now to next month they would owe him a credit as the interest would be different.
Or
they would have to work to hold the payment for a whole month and we know that isn't happening.
