Title: Things that make me happy, Cities edition
Post by: Kaos on February 26, 2014, 08:48:54 PM
al.com buried this in using "Tuscaloosa" as one of the top five metro areas in Alabama but if you dig deeper?

http://blog.al.com/wire/2014/02/alabama_by_the_numbers_which_c_1.html#incart_big-photo (http://blog.al.com/wire/2014/02/alabama_by_the_numbers_which_c_1.html#incart_big-photo)

59.4% of Auburn residents 25 and older have a bachelors or higher.
94.9% have a high school degree or higher.

Tuscaloosa?
86% with a high school degree.
36% with a bachelors or higher

Not only are we smarter, we're better educated.

al.com skews the numbers a bit because to create Tuscaloosa "metro" you have to combine other towns like Northport, Fosters, Brookwood, Vance and others into the "metro" designation. But when it comes to counting the percentages from Tuscaloosa, they only use "Tuscaloosa city" which, as weak as it is, outperforms all the hillbilly stations that make up it's "metro" area.

In the mean time, my little humble town of Gadsden ranked 87 on the most dangerous places to live in the United States.

I'm all for rabble-rabbling about AL.com's bias, but where are you getting those numbers?

Also, they're not saying those are the top 5 in terms of "smartest" cities. Just that they're the biggest cities.

A macro (short for "macroinstruction", from Greek μακρο- 'long') in computer science is a rule or pattern that specifies how a certain input sequence (often a sequence of characters) should be mapped to a replacement output sequence (also often a sequence of characters) according to a defined procedure.

I've actually thought about quitting my job and seeing if they would hire me as a cook just so I could steal the recipe.
